Notes from the Captain:
17 simmers simming out of 17 on the roster! What holiday? While other
sims were cancelling for U.S. Labor Day, Coro was out there SIMMING!
Add to that the fact it was a damned fine sim and I can draw only one
conslusion: you guys are the best. ;) Hope you all enjoyed it as much
as I did... and welcome to Year 5!
Tonight, we say hello to two new Coro simmers, one of whom joined us this
week, one of whom joined us last week. Last week, Thompson joined the
family as Ensign Jason Thompson, assisting in Sickbay. Garstini's jokes
of his being the "demon disciple" not withstanding, Thompson's doing a
terrific job! Welcome aboard, and I hope you're enjoying the sim!
Joining us this week was Baralu, as Ensign Ananda Wilk, at Coro's
combined Helm/Ops station. Baralu has been distinguishing himself on
another once-upon-a-time-Jester-sim, U.S.S. Pegasus, where he is the XO
and which sims every Friday over in FSG. From Heiwa's perspective,
Baralu does such a fine job that I couldn't resist stealing him. ;)
Whatever the reason, welcome aboard, Baralu!
There IS some bad news, however, to go with the good. :/ Flight Ops is
open because Heiwa has let me know that due to school and work
interfering with his Monday nights, he will no longer be able to join us
on a regular enough schedule to remain in that post. He has said that
he'll guest with us when he can. Heiwa first joined Coro more than 30
months ago, in January 1999, making him an old hand... and I hope he'll
one day be able to join back in regularly. In the meantime, thank you
for all of your hard work and dedication to the sim, Heiwa! :)
In addition, Phishie aka 1Lt. Natalia Petrovna let me know tonight that
she must step down as well, also due to work interfering with her
ability to attend on Monday nights. :/ I'm definitely sorry to see
Phishie go, especially since I know her character has been developing a
couple of interesting relationships with other Coro characters. Thank
you for the time you could give us, Phishie!
See you all next week!
Remember, a very detailed map of the part of M64 we find ourselves in is
available for your review at:
http://www.jestertrek.com/m64/
Our current position is system G039, which you'll find in Grid 015
(above Reor on the large map on the first page).
Sim Title: "The First Inkling", Part 1
A priority one, code one signal has been transmitted from Reor. Such a
signal has but one meaning: invasion of Federation space. Of course, we
are 19 million light-years from Federation borders, but a priority one,
code one transmission is one that no Starfleet vessel can ignore. Coro
rushed toward Reor in response, calling ahead to learn the exact nature of
the threat and where we could do the most good. We successfully contacted
Vice Admiral Aldur on Reor to learn that the Accursed are apparently
conducting either a broad-front probe or a distraction raid of some kind.
While the Reor system itself has been attacked only by small waves of
Accursed strike craft, the area north of the planet is exposed. As a
result, we were ordered into this area to investigate, but were under
strict orders to report the position and activity of any Accursed capital
ships we detected, not engage them. We were also instructed to search for
Reorsan patrol craft 2/7, which was also reported missing in the area.
Reaching the Tarwani system and going to battle stations, we almost
immediately encountered a small group of Accursed strike craft. The group
of five ships is apparently common in many of the systems around Reor, and
may be scouting the surrounding systems. However, upon our arrival, they
almost immediately attacked. Initially, the group was not much of a
threat to Coro; we were able to hold them off with minimal damage,
attempting communications several times, which were ignored. The strike
craft apparently were either an advance wave or called for reinforcements,
however, because soon two Accursed starships approximately the same size
as Coro arrived in the system on their spacefold drives.
The ships were clearly of Accursed manufacture, featuring the same hull
form and biological signature as both the smaller strike craft and the
larger warship we have seen pictures of. They ignored us, however, and
proceeded toward Tarwani 6, the only inhabited planet in the system. They
did, however, launch five more fighters each, which joined the first five
in their attack on us. Coro was able to destroy three of the fifteen, but
soon found herself swarmed by the tiny attackers. In addition, by joining
together into a group of five, this "super-fighter" can fire an extremely
damaging plasma energy beam. Such a beam struck Coro, seriously damaging
the upper saucer just aft of module 2, severely disrupting Savant's power
matrix and knocking her off-line. Casualties began streaming into Sickbay
and the Captain elected to withdraw from the system as our mission was to
scout the area and learn what we can, not engage Accursed capital ships.
As we departed, we reported the positions of the two ships to Reor.
Coro fell back to open space between the Tarwani system and system G039.
In the latter system, we discovered signs of patrol craft 2/7. Coro
launched Kelaka, with an away team led by Commander Daren, under the
possibility that while the Accursed can detect Coro, they might not be
able to detect the stealthy gunboat. Approaching patrol 2/7 more closely,
Kelaka learned that there was an Accursed fighter rammed into it, and four
more fighters hanging nearby. Coro's Spectres roared into the system to
deal with this threat, covered by long-range torpedo bombardment from the
frigate, which closed to within 2 billion kilometers. Following the
bombardment, the two fighter wings under Major Wayne's command were able
to make short work of the Accursed strike craft.
Meanwhile, a Marine fire team boarded patrol 2/7 to find all of the braid
crew of the vessel dead except one, draped over the control board.
Hanging over the braid was an unknown lifeform about three meters high,
wearing a red cloak. The fire team got this lifeform's attention only to
find it implacably hostile: it turned and fired some kind of plasma energy
bolt at one marine, disabling him. The cloak hid the lifeform's features,
but a metal helmet with two glowing eyes and a large chest-mounted weapon
"port" from which the energy bolt was fired were visible. The other
marines, including 1st Lt. Moore, were able to kill the creature, but it
exploded at death, wounding all of them in turn... Oddly, at the same
time, some kind of overload destroyed Colonel Ironside's console, very
nearly taking the Colonel out with it!
