 Notes from the XO:

Ok, so after all our "first" experiences in our lives we need to ask
ourselves, "What did we learn?" ;-) Well, I for one learned that
running an IRC sim is no where near as easy as it seems. Even when one
is quite prepared for the experience, they can end up with something
much different then what they expected. So, I need to thank those who
showed up and esspecially those who stayed for the entire thing. I
realize it was strange without our CO around, but I had fun with you
all anyway. Sorry for the long summary, I just wanted to be precise for
those who left early or couldn't make it to the sim. Thank you for
flying "The CO is not here" Airlines!

 Sim Title: "Beta Shift"

Coronado lifted off the grassy hilltop just outside the city of
Churchill Downs leaving only a few divots behind. We dropped Vice Admiral
Brian Aldur off on to USS Stirling before departing for Slipstream for
Taer, a yellow-white subgiant star system 40 light years from Reor. The
Taerans are friendly to the Reorsans and expressed an interest in meeting
with someone from the Task Group.

A few hours into the slipstream flight, sensors picked up a vessel
matching the design of the "scavenger" vessels fired on by U.S.S.
Churchill when they appeared out of subspace. After informing the
Captain of our find, and waking him up briefly, we altered slipstream to
intercept the ship which was apparently adrift. Janeway and her science
staff scanned the vessel as we approached. The ship was giving off
intermittent power readings. There seemed to be power to life support,
but the helm and weapons systems were offline. She noted that there was
evidence of some internal malfunction but without a better understanding
of the technology, she couldn't be sure exactly what happened. In
addition, the hull of the ship is a coposite alloy which included
portanium. The portanium was creating interference for our sensors and
would block all attempts to get a transporter beam through.

However, Janeway indicated that the levels of Portanium in the hull were
significatnly less in the rear of the ship where there were seven large
cargo holds. An Away Team was formed to board the vessel. Lt. Commander
Drexler led the team with Oswald, Ma'Aru, and Wayne for some muscle since
the internal scan report of hostiles was inconclusive. When the away team
was beamed into one of the large cargo bays they were greeted by what
appeared to be an interstellar homeless shelter. There were several
hundred cots and bunks in the large room. Clothing that looked oddly
non-humanoid and other non-humanoid personal belongings were strewn about
 the area.

The Team quickly got power to a turbolift and made their way to the
bridge. The bridge, shaped like a isosceles triangle, was quite
technologically advanced. The team members began rooting through the
bridge stations looking for any information. Oswald found a medical
database which not only offered her a visualtzation of the scavengers but
told her that their name is actually the Apori. The team also found a
visual log which showed the Apori's homeworld being destroyed by
"Accursed" vessels with the same design as the vessels that were attacking
the Reorsan patrol ship while Coronado was there. These ships were a bit
larger and deposited a powerful explosive device into the star to trigger
a shockwave that decimated the entire system. The visual log showed that
several ships did manage to escape the system before the shockwave. It
was apparent that the Apori had become a nomadic race, without a place
 to call home.

On Coro, Tlaloco and Marcy were trying to find better ways of transportion
through the front portion of the Apori hull but the Portanium was nearly
60% in the forward hull. The rear of the vessel was the only place a
transporter would be able to lock on, where the Portanium density fell
 to 15%.

With all the rooting around in an alien computer system something is bound
to happen, and Lieutenant Ma'Aru accidentily started a dormant
self-destruct sequence on the bridge. The Team quickly saved all the
inforation they had recived thus far and got back into the turbolift which
seemed to move much slower under the circumstances. With several seconds
to spare, the team was beamed back from the cargo bay and Coronado quickly
engaged warp engines to escape the blast. We later resumed our course at
 slipstream for the Taer system....
