 Notes from the Captain:

Welcome to mid-summer! As I've mentioned already, and will probably keep
mentioning all summer, I completely understand that lots and lots of
people take vacation during this time of year. All I ask is that if
you're going to miss a sim, please let me know in advance. Thanks! :-)

As those of you who have been with me for a while know, this is the time
of year that I tend to experiment a little bit... play around with sim
types that I wouldn't normally do. Sims in July and August can be a
little sillier than normal, a little darker, hairier, or more violent.
::grins:: To give you an example, early last August I killed everyone
aboard... on the holodeck, as it turned out. ;-) So, don't be surprised
if I try a few really odd things as we go into late summer, just to see
 how they go over...

Sim Title: "Children of the Moon", Part 2

The bulk of the Coronado senior officers have been captured... presumably
by the Taerens. While about half of them were taken to an unknown
location, the remainder were left upon a platform, made of rough grey
stone. The platform is lit by a single source of light far overhead; the
only thing on the platform other than the Coronado personnel present was a
plain four-legged wooden table. On the table were a number of copper
coins and a small sign. The sign had pictures of a number of small
objects, starting with a copper coin and ending with an old-fashioned oil
lamp. At the end of the sequence was the English word "freedom."

After again exploring the platform and finding nothing new, the personnel
present turned their attention to the table and the copper coins resting
on it. After a short argument over what to do and what the coins and the
sign might mean, the officers turned to the coins themselves. One by one,
each person eventually picked up a coin... all but one person, Lieutenant
Ma'Aru. The lack of a coin proved fatal: a sudden intense fire flared up,
burning the Lieutenant to a small pile of ashes. A moment later, Ma'Aru
vanished, to be replaced on the wooden table by a number of daggers...
which happened to be the next symbol on the sign.

After that, a pattern quickly developed. There was always one fewer
objects on the table than there were people. Everyone but Ensign Marcy
collected a dagger, and Marcy was killed. The next group of objects were
feathers, again one fewer than the number of people on the platform.
However, this time, an argument flared over just who should get the
feathers. During this argument, three Coronado officers engaged in a
short but nasty knife fight over the feathers and Lieutenant Ungtae was
 killed by Major Wayne.

One by one, objects appeared, and faster and faster, the Coronado officers
left rushed to obtain them. Finally, only Major Wayne and Lt. Commander
Janeway were left with all of the objects when the final object, the old-
fashioned oil lamp, appeared. In the light of the lamp, however, a path
off the platform appeared. Visibile only by lamplight, the path was
probably always there but simply not visible. Either forgetting the
"rules" in his excitement or guilty over killing Ungtae, Wayne instructed
Janeway to grab the lantern while the Major inspected the path. When
the Commander took the lantern, of course, Major Wayne was killed, leaving
Janeway as the only survivor. Leaving the others behind, she followed the
 path to a small room.

In the small room, everyone who had been on the platform waited for her.
A Taeren also in the room told the Coronado officers simply that hopefully
they had now learned something about their shipmates... and themselves.
The entire exercise was apparently generated by the Taeren abilities in
 illusion, because nobody had died...
