Notes from the Captain:

We are swift approaching my very least favorite time of the year: mid-July
to early September. As anyone who runs a sim knows, this is the time of
year that attendance goes down the tubes as people in the northern
hemisphere enjoy their summers off and/or their vacations. I of course
don't mind everyone taking time off -- real life definitely takes
precedent over sim life... BUT. ;-) You knew there was going to be a
but. ;-) BUT, when you're going to be gone for a Coro sim, please
PLEASE let me know in advance if it all humanly possible. I scale the
"size" of the sim and get a general idea about who is going to do what
based on who's going to be there. By letting me know in advance if at all
possible, you make it easier for me to run a more fun sim for those who
CAN be there. So, if you can't make it, please let me know either before
the sim, or within 48 hours afterwards. Thanks!! :-)

As those of you who have been with me for a while know, this is the time
of year that I tend to experiment a little bit... play around with sim
types that I wouldn't normally do. Sims in July and August can be a
little sillier than normal, a little darker, hairier, or more violent.
::grins:: To give you an example, early last August I killed everyone
aboard... on the holodeck, as it turned out. ;-) So, don't be surprised
if I try a few really odd things as we go into late summer, just to see
how they go over...

Sim Title: "Children of the Moon", Part 1

Vice Admiral Aldur has ordered Coronado to the Taer system. The Taeren
species is peaceful and technologically advanced, possibly possessing
technology more advanced than the Federation norm. Telepathic and
telekinetic abilities are both present. In particular, it is possible
that Tearens are stronger psionically than virtually any other known
humanoid race, with the possible exception of the Talosians in the Milky
Way. The Taerens specifically asked to meet with a representative of the
Task Group and Aldur chose Coronado. The Taeren homeworld is class M, the
second planet orbiting a yellow-white star. The planet has a single moon.

As we approached Taeren space, we encountered a line of marker bouys
apparently marking the border. As we approached the bouy, it enveloped
the frigate in a beam of blue-green light which passed through the ship,
seemingly harmlessly. Everyone aboard was able to perceive the light,
which also caused light-colored objects to glow, as if they were under
black light. The beam passed without incident, and Coro continued on
toward the planet. Savant and Commander Janeway both theorized that the
beam could be some sort of scanning device; Janeway reported that the
beam was either carrying or receiving a huge amount of information.

Moving further into the system, we were intercepted by an alien spacecraft
presumably of Taeren design. The ship simply appeared approximately 5000
kilometers from Coronado, dangerously close to the frigate. The Captain
ordered all stop. Interestingly, the alien vessel was able to match the
maneuver precisely, its distance from Coro not even varying by a single
meter from that approximately 5000 kilometers. As time passed, a second,
a third, and a fourth ship appeared near Coronado, each maintaining that
very precise distance and mirroring the movments of both Coro and the
other ships, even when Coro made a short slipstream jump directly into
Taeren orbit. The precision of the ships was very intimidating.

By that time, however, five of the senior members of the Coronado Bridge
crew had been abducted, and transported to a featureless grey platform
under a single distant light. The light was an unknown, very large
distance away, and the platform seemed to be constructed of solid, uneven
grey stone. Oddly, though very solid, the platform is apparently only
about five to ten centimeters thick. The edges of the platform drop off
an unknown distance. A tool dropped from the platform did not apparently
hit a bottom. Initially, the Captain, Exec, Marine CO, Lieutenant Farley,
and Major Wayne were transported to the platform. Later, in another
instant of that blue-green beam, the Captain disappeared and was replaced
by Savant.

While the Captain and his team attempted to determine where they were and
why, Commander Dejat took command of Coronado. Frustrated by the lack of
Taeren response, Dejat attempted to hail the ships, hail the planet, or
otherwise provoke any kind of reaction from the Taeren ships. He even
went so far as to order shields raised and other battle preparations
completed. The Taeren ships did not react even when he locked a torpedo
on one and demanded an immediate response. When, a few minutes later,
Savant disappeared, Dejat ordered the torpedo launched. Unfortunately, it
seemed to "reflect" off the Taeren ship, and hit Coronado. Even more
strangely, the ship was damaged in only one way: the command chair
electrocuted Commander Dejat!

The crew had little time to consider this development, as soon after, the
bulk of the Coronado senior officers, including the incapacitated Dejat,
were transported to the grey platform, still minus the Captain...
