Notes from the Captain:
Nice work this week! We sped things back up a little bit; now that we've
met the Reorsans, humanoid and braid, our next couple of months involve
meeting the other local residents. Hopefully, they're friendly. ;-)
Remember, you do NOT have to wait for me to tell you all of the details
about something we're looking at / exploring before your character starts
talking about it. For the vast majority of things we're looking at, I
haven't *developed* all that many details. Here's an example: what does
a Reorsan patrol ship look like? I don't know. Here's another example:
How do braids live when there's no humans around? Don't know that either.
Other than the island / city of Churchill Downs, what does the other 99.5%
of Reorsa look like? What about its moon? Haven't got a clue. ;-) Feel
free to make up the details! If nothing else, it keeps me on my toes: I
then have to remember your details the next time we look at whatever it is
your character has described. ;-)
Finally, unfortunately, I've now had to declare Calamar Turnam Missing in
Action. This is doubly a pity because Calamar developed one of the races
in M64 from scratch, the Boratis (see above about making stuff up ;-) ).
We'll eventually be learning lots more about the Boratis...
Sim Title: "Churchill Downs", Part 3
After several days of rest and relaxation in Churchill Downs, the officers
and crew of Coronado were getting a bit restless. More and more of the
crew elected to take the last day or two of shore leave on the ship, with
some even idly checking to make sure the frigate would be ready for
departure when the time came. With the Captain more or less out of
contact for the last several days, Commanders Dejat and Savant even
started towonder if they could tap into his meeting with the Reorsan
government or otherwise listen in on the proceedings. Breaking into the
Reorsan government building security system turned out to be surprisingly
easy; it was keeping their sneaking around a secret from the Exec that
turned out to be a challenge for the two officers...
Meanwhile, Captain Lora Kor and Vice Admiral Aldur were called out of
their meeting with the Reorsan government by Commander T'Lara, who has
been asking to see a number of people. On the way, the two officers met
Mr. Nikkos, who apparently also received a summons to appear before
T'Lara. The Kioth knew the way, so the three proceeded there together,
only to find that they had arrived before T'Lara was ready for them. The
three men settled down to wait while the elder Vulcan met with previously
called visitors. Nikkos, particularly, looked stricken, fearing that the
news they had come to receive was of the worst kind.
Reorsan patrol and fighter craft continued to be launched and recovered,
of course, and late in the afternoon, one such patrol ship returned to the
system transmitting a distress call. Patrol ship 3-6 reported that she
had come under attack a good distance away from the Reor system and fled
home trying to escape. Unfortuantely, her attackers followed the patrol
ship back to the planet. The attacking ships -- three large fightercraft
of unknown design -- used a spacefolding drive apparently common to M64
to enter the system and immediately fell into pursuing the patrol ship.
Desperate to escape, the patrol ship risked one more warp burst in an
attempt to flee... an attempt that was at least partially successful.
Coronado launched Spectres to assist the fleeing patrol craft, while the
recently-arrived U.S.S. Resolute and U.S.S. Stirling broke Reorsan orbit
to assist.
The defenders arrived just in time. Resolute destroyed one of the
attacking ships before it could finish off the patrol ship, then beamed
off the survivors. Coro's Spectres engaged the remaining two, destroying
one with the loss of one of their own ships. The Spectre was struck by
some kind of enormously powerful plasma beam, shattering the fighter. The
occupant managed to eject in time. Proceeding more warily, the Spectres
herded the remaining fighter toward Reorsa, where the combined assault of
both of Coro's fighter wings and Coro herself firing from the surface were
successful in destroying the final attacker. Unfortunately, the victory
did not come before the last fighter used its plasma beam to seriously
damage U.S.S. Resolute, the beam apparently slicing right through the
escort ship's shields to detonate one of her impulse reactors.
Meanwhile, on the planet below, the Captain had just finished his meeting
with Commander T'Lara when he came downstairs to report that the last
survivor of U.S.S. Churchill had passed away. Nikkos agreed to escort
Sparas, another Vulcan living on Reorsa, to the planet's Hall of Memories
with the katra of Commander T'Lara of Vulcan.
