Notes from the Captain:
Very good character interaction this week, everyone! :-) In particular,
there were a lot of new combinations of characters -- in other words,
several characters were talking to people they don't ordinarily talk to.
This is definitely a good thing. ;-) I've been very impressed with all
of the role-playing and character development. Next week, after closing
out a few shore leave threads, we go back to work...
Well, I don't like to do this, but because McKeown has now missed four
sims in a row, I have placed him into Missing in Action status and his
position (Marine Company Commander) is now open... Calamar, if you're
still reading these, you need to show up next week or you will forfeit
your position as well... :-/
Sim Title: "Churchill Downs", Part 2
Coronado continues to sit on a grassy hillside overlooking the city of
Churchill Downs on the planet Reorsa. Overnight, U.S.S. Resolute,
carrying Vice Admiral Aldur and several senior members of the Task Group
leadership arrived in Reorsa orbit and were ferried down to the
government buildings via shuttlecraft. These officers, presumably along
with the Captain, are still meeting with the Reosran government,
probably negotiating what the relationship between Reorsa and her two
colonies and the task group at large will be. In particular, when the
the Captain was informed that the Churchill survivors had violated the
Prime Directive by sharing their technology with the braids, the Captain
told Commander Daren that he already knew that information...
So, while these negotiations were going on, the senior staff of Coronado
took advantage of the time off to further explore Churchill Downs. In
particular, Major Wayne took Lieutenant Petrovna on the long-promised
"date" he made with her when she first came aboard several months ago.
Many of the ship's company also elected to remain aboard Coronado and
take their shore leave aboard ship, particularly Commander Daren, who
enlisted several people's help with an extremely elaborate holographic
program that he has been working on. The program centers on a medieval
and fantasy genre, somewhat similar to the culture of the Thistledown,
a planet Coro visited before the onset of the F-K-R War. Daren seemed
to take great delight in using the more esoteric portions of the program
to startle our Reorsan visitor, Nikkos.
Major Wayne and Lieutenant Petrovna did have an interesting conversation
with their braid waiter. During the course of the conversation, the
fact that the braids are deferential to the humanoids came up, but the
braid involved dismissed it. The braid, named Mist-Over-Mountains, told
the two Marines that she(?) had studied humanoid culture extensively and
essentially asked if her behavior was inappropriate for a waiter. When
the Marines admitted it was not, Mist admitted that the Churchill
descendants are worried about what the Task Group personnel might decide
about them and have been going out of their way to make the Starfleet
people feel at home and welcomed. This feeling naturally extended to
the braids as well.
Finally, apparently completing their exploration run, starships U.S.S.
Stirling, U.S.S. Gryphon, and U.S.S. Resolute arrived and settled into
standard orbit of Reorsa. After contacting Coronado, the three ships
almost immediately began launching shuttlecraft with their shore leave
parties. The Stirling's duty officer also asked if it was possible to
get some kind of site-to-site transporter capability operational, since
Coronado and her transporter pads and transport enhancers are already on
the surface. Commander Drexler initially rejected the possibility, but
it is likely that if Coro personnel don't start working on this problem,
the crew of Stirling will. It is, after all, a bit difficult to ferry
more than 800 people back and forth to the planet surface by shuttle...
