The computer's voice was male, somewhat harsh, with an undercurrent
signifying a demanding nature. It was in all ways the typical Starfleet
computer voice of the late 23rd and early 24th centuries. It brought back
memories in the Kor symbiont, and not all of those memories were pleasant.
All in all, Kor preferred the more modern, resonant female voice. However,
that later voice had gone into service after Churchill's disappearance.

The Captain sat in Coronado's Tactical Analysis Lab, taking notes on a PADD.
The Reorsans had finally given Coro access to their full database, rather
than the isolated dribs and drabs of star maps and a few species databases.
The full database was millions of kiloquads of data gathered over the course
of more than a century. However, for the moment, the Captain was only
interested in a few entries. On the largest holographic viewscreen in the
TacAn Lab, an enormous winged starship hung motionless, frozen in time. It
was a dark ship, with few windows and even fewer external adornments or
features. Smooth and almost glassy, it looked somehow organic... like an
enormous pterodactyl. The ship had a blunt, rounded nose, two sweeping
wings, a bulbous body, and a strangely squared-off aft bay of some kind.
The associated scale representation indicated that it was several times
larger and more massive than Coro. The frigate would almost disappear into
that aft bay area alone, if the scale was to be believed.

"FLIGHT RECORDER VISUAL, STARSHIP DAUNTLESS, STARDATE 239608.31," the
 computer voice said.

 "Go," the Captain said tonelessy.

For the fourth time, the Captain watched as the enormous ship turned slowly
and ponderously, approaching starship Dauntless as the destroyer orbited a
class M planet about 35 light-years "northwest" of Reorsa. According to the
star maps, the planet's inhabitants were intelligent and sentient, but still
developing. The cultural database indicated technology consistent with 15th
or 16th century Earth, with a few twists here and there. While it was
probable that they had observed some of what happened, it was likely that
they had written it off as witchcraft or a natural phenomenon of some sort.

Dauntless' sensors had picked up the vessel emerging from some sort of
spacefold drive, similar to what the Boratis used. However, the Boratis had
no ships that even approached the bulk of Coronado, much less this behemoth.
The vessel had come out of its drive and approached the planet and
Dauntless. An indicator lit, signifying that Dauntless was transmitting the
then-standard universal friendship and greetings. The response from the
 behemoth had been nearly immediate.

First, the ship launched a pair of projectiles at Dauntless. Bright
blue-white, the missiles or torpedoes or whatever they were slowly
approached the destroyer. After transmitting one more message, the
indicator showing Dauntless' communications in use shut down and the ones
for weapons and shields lit. The torpedoes continue to come in, but very
slowly, taking more than a minute travelling time. Either the larger ship
was testing Dauntless' capabilities, or more likely, the weapons were only
intended to be used against other targets, as slow and ponderous as the
larger ship herself. In any case, a pair of phaser blasts from Dauntless
had destroyed the blue-white torpedoes a good distance from the Reorsan
destroyer... and that's when the enormous vessel had lanced out with energy
 beams of its own.

Hellishly bright, two lances of energy speared out from two emitter ports on
the wings of the vessel. The first cut through Dauntless' shields... the
second virtually tore the Reorsan destroyer in half. Smaller beam weapons
flickered out, slicing into the saucer section, carving it up. The dark
vessel continued to approach, tractors or grapples deploying to capture the
 pieces of saucer.

Meanwhile, Dauntless' secondary hull, flickering in a dozen places with
explosions and fire, accelerated toward the behemoth. In quick succession,
a sensor probe, then a recorder-marker bouy deployed. The Captain made a
note on his PADD, reminding himself to review the Dauntless' specifications.
Based on the behavior of the secondary hull, Kor would guess the main bridge
of the ship had been there, rather than the saucer. Still accelerating, the
secondary hull of the ship had rammed the monster and then exploded
violently, leaving only a few pieces of saucer, the probe, and the marker
 bouy to tell the tale.

"Back point six six," the Captain said.

"Belay," a voice said behind him. The Captain turned to see Colonel
Ironside. The older man's aspect was grim. "It doesn't get any prettier
the fifth time, Captain," the Colonel said, nodding a greeting. "The record
also includes what was going on on the Bridge right up to the point where
the marker bouy was launched. I would have liked to have met Captain
Valentine... she seems to have been completely fearless. She calmly ordered
Dauntless' warp engines overloaded to prevent whatever that was from
capturing even a piece of her ship."

"I've seen it," the Captain said, also nodding. "How long have you been
 here, Colonel?"

"Long enough," Ironside said. "Commander Daren has been trying to reach
you. It's time for our second meeting with the President," he said.

The Captain nodded, turned off the playback, and picked up his PADD. "Make
sure all of your people have seen that, Colonel," the Captain said, heading
for the Colonel and the door.

 "Count on it, Captain."
