 Notes from the Captain:

When it finally occurred to me that we hadn't had a real shore leave in
about a YEAR (::chuckles::), I scheduled this sim. ;-) It's no surprise
it took people a while to get going; we've been moving at warp 9 for so
long that a few minutes with nothing to do were almost certain to be
regarded with a little bit of confusion. You'll have more opportunity to
get used to time off next week, as the shore leave on Reorsa continues.

Coro's running very full just now, so an excellent way to lose your
position is to not show up for the sim and not tell me where you are!
McKeown, Calamar, this means you... :-| Where are you guys?

Sim Title: "Churchill Downs", Part 1

Coronado continues to sit on a grassy hillside overlooking the city of
Churchill Downs on the planet Reorsa. While the Captain conducts talks
with the Reorsan government and we await the arrival of Vice Admiral Aldur
and his staff, Coro's crew has an unaccustomed amount of free time
available for shore leave on the planet surface. It has been so long
since the last time Coronado has been out of harm's way that many of the
senior crew simply couldn't remember what it was like to have some off
time. As a result, there was quite a bit of "milling around" until
Commander Daren got people broken up into groups and essentially threw
 them off the ship.

The main group secured Mr. Nikkos as a guide, since the latter has been
living on Reorsa off and on for some time, and set out toward the city's
business district. The group got involved with the various attractions
available to them in the city center. They also got a fairly close view
of Reorsan culture and society as they perused the available shops and
restaurants. A bit less touristy than the marketplace, the city center
was more useful to those on the team that even saw their time off as a
mission and spent it observing how the Churchill descendants and the
Reorsan braids interact, among other things. Interestingly, for
instance, most of the shop-owners seemed to be braids rather than
Churchill descendants, as were most of the restaurant workers.

The second group, primarily engineers, decided to set off toward the
spaceport associated with Churchill Downs. They were escorted through
the colony's primary Vehicle Assembly Buildings, where their fighters,
shuttles, patrol ships, and transports pass through initial fabrication.
The hull construction is apparently done on the ground, where the
presence of gravity makes the work easier; the completed skeletons are
then towed or launched into orbit and completed in Reorsa's orbital
platforms. Lieutenants Farley and Skylooker noted that there were many
more completed skeletons in the assembly buildings than it would appear
that the Reorsans require. They then speculated why the skeletons have
not been launched. They also noted that most of the work is being done
 by braids with humanoid foremen.

Commander Daren and Ensign Mayo kept track of the Away teams, but
primarily speculated about the fact that braids are not only involved in
the rank-and-file work on the planet, but are apparently common among
the technical teams, fighter pilots, and transport crews. While doing
research on this, Commander Daren uncovered the most surprising fact of
all -- before the arrival of the Churchill, braid technology had not yet
advanced to warp capability... meaning that when the original Churchill
crew contacted them, they violated the Prime Directive. Even worse, the
Churchill descendants have clearly been advancing the basic level of
technology on the planet, bringing the braids "up to their level," as it
were, making this Prime Directive violation ongoing for the last century!
