Notes from the Captain:
First, a small announcement. Several simmers correctly pointed out
that I've used the title "Heart of Darkness" on Coro before. I only
remembered this myself a couple of days before the first sim. ::grins::
Since I'm no more interested in recycling titles than Heiwa is [;-)],
this sim shall hereafter be referred to as "Manila Harbor". The
reason for that particular title will become apparent next week...
Remember, if you're going to miss the sim, please let me know in advance
if at all possible. :-) This allows me to tweak what's going to happen
toward the people who are actually going to make it. In extremis, I'll
accept an e-mail notification that you can't make the sim up to 24 hours
AFTER the sim, too. Just let me know you're still alive, if nothing
else. ;-) Thanks!
Sim Title: "Manila Harbor", Part 1
Coronado had come to the area around the Donatu system in order to
receive urgent information from the Captain's old friend Ka'tek vestai
Kharas. Unfortunately, Ka'tek's news -- that the Klingon and Romulan
governments were planning an invasion of the Federation -- came too late
to do us any good. The fact that we had to travel to the Klingon border
to hear the news only guaranteed that Coro was caught behind enemy lines
when the Klingon attack forces swept across the border. As a result,
Coro has been forced into silent running tactics in order to evade the
Klingon patrols which are starting to firm up in what was until recently
Federation space. Fortunately, our holographic defenses and LORASON
sensors were keeping us one step ahead of the Klingons. The Captain
resolved to take Coro into the Triangle, the border of Klingon, Romulan,
and Federation space, reasoning Starfleet resistance is probably firmest
there. As a result, we are proceding "north" toward the front lines.
In the process, we are currently seeing a number of Klingon supply convoys
moving behind what are presumably the Klingon lines. The convoys, each
escorted, are currently too thick to go around, and as a result, we've had
little choice but to attempt going through. Using LORASON sensors, we
managed to pick the smallest, most lightly-escorted convoy and ambushed it
successfully. Proceeding further north, however, landed Coro in a trap: a
Starfleet marker bouy turned out to be guarded by three B'rel class scouts
lying in wait for passing Starfleet ships who might take an interest in
the beacon. Though we were successful in destroying the scouts, Coro took
sufficient damage in the exchange to make hiding ourselves a priority.
Meanwhile, our Spectres were having no more luck than we were, attempting
to find a way through the front lines. Using the multiple convoys as a
screen, the Spectres attempted to get close enough to the front lines to
determine how far from help we are. They were at least successful in
determining that Alphosa is not yet under attack. Coro then recalled the
fighters and entered an uninhabited red-giant system with an extensive
asteroid belt. Using our holographic defenses to disguise ourselves as one
of the asteroids, shutting down unnecessary systems and going under a
strict EMCON regimen has given us a safe hiding place for a while. This
should give us sufficient time to conduct our repairs and plan our next
move, which among other things will include using Kelaka to attempt to
scout a way across the front lines.

Promotions:
Dalton, from Lieutenant to Lt. Commander
Last promotion date: 10-Jul-00, 19 sims (inc. one double-length)
Mr. Dalton is one of Coronado's original characters while in
UCIP, and is among Coro's most unique and well-developed!
Heiwa does a terrific job making Dalton's actions as murky as
possible while still making him very believable as a Starfleet
officer and member of the Coronado. Keep up the great work!
Recognitions:
Golden Nebula
Lt. Major Thomas Wayne
For attendance of 30+ sims *in a row*, including completion of
e-mail logs during that period, the Golden Nebula is a
recognition of exemplary dedication to a sim. Coro has 5 GN
winners among her ranks, and I am proud to make Masters the 6th!
Well done, and keep up the excellent work!!
Star Cross for Merit
Lt. Commander Dalton
For outstanding OOC contributions to the Coronado sim, including
the full plot for "Regression", completed 22 January 2001!
Nova Cross for Merit
Lt. Colonel Jeremy Ironside
For outstanding OOC contributions to the Coronado sim, including
a full website section devoted to the Starfleet Marine Corps!
Thank you for your many contributions to the Coro sim, Heiwa and Fras!
Academy Completions:
UCIP Academy Superior Performance Medal
Commander Fornan Dejat
After reviewing the Helm Exam submitted by Commander Fornan
Dejat, I am pleased to award him the Superior Performance Medal.
A very fine example of hard work and attention to detail. He
sets an example for us all. Congratulations, Commander!

"Exchange" of the Week: Is he the same species as Morn?
<LCDR_Dalton> 7> ::enters and finds all of three people in the bar::
<LCDR_Dalton> 7> ::goes up to the silent waiter and snaps:: Where is
everyone!? It's like a tomb in here!
<LCDR_Dalton> Silent Waiter> ::holds up his erasable sign, which now
reads, 'Yellow Alert'::
<CRHL_Dejat> <<lol>>
<CRXO_Bentall> << I love that silent waiter... :) >>
<LCDR_Dalton> 7> ::rolls his eyes:: That never changes. Yellow Alert,
Red Alert, Blue Alert, Black Alert, it's all the same ... it's all BAD
for BUSINESS!
<LCDR_Dalton> 7> Silent Waiter> ::scribbles furiously on his board::
<CoroLCARS> =.\ction= Three Klingon B'rel class scouts, apparently lying
in wait near the marker, decloak and open fire.
<LCDR_Dalton> 7> Silent Waiter> ::sign now says, "There's no black
alert"::
<CoroLCARS> =.\ction= They each get off two torpedo shots as Coro
passes.
<LCDR_Dalton> 7> Oh shut up! Like I need correcting from my
employees!? ::goes off-balance, sliding into the side of the bar::
Ouch!
