 Notes from the Captain:

 For those that thought the teaser was long... all I can say is that this
 sim report is probably longer. ;-) Lots and lots went on, and I wanted
 to make sure I didn't miss anything. Even so, I might have. ;-)

 The first announcement is unfortunately a sad one: for real-life reasons,
 Alffred has elected to step down from his UCIP positions, which of course
 includes his position as Executive Officer aboard U.S.S. Coronado.
 Alffred has been an outstanding XO and I for one am very sorry to see him
 go. :-/ As a thank you for his efforts, I was pleased to be able to
 promote him to Captain in UCIP, a pretty impressive accomplishment
 considering that there are fewer than two dozen of those total in the
 group. I'll let Alffred speak his farewell for himself...

 <Bentall> As you may have noticed I'm leaving simming for a few months.
 I need to get my life back in order. <more>
 <Bentall> It's been a pleasure and an honor to have simmed with you all.
 And I want you all to know that I will be back to guest as Swift so we can
 deal with him once and for all. I may also pop up to guest now and again on
 a sim. But for the most part you won't be seeing me much. I'll be staying
 on the mailing list to stay caught up. And come August or Spetember, once i
 get a computer at home, I will be back with a new character.
 <Bentall> Thank you for some of the best simming I've ever been apart of
 Specially from our good Captain here. I'm done.
 <W2_CRHL_Dejat> ::stands up and begins clapping again::
 <W1_LtEN_Oswald> ::claps::
 <W1_LTTP_Clayton> ::hugs Dan:: :)
 <W1_LMSL_Wayne> ::rises and applauds::
 <RSmccb_Tlaloco> ::applauds loudly::
 <Savant> it's been great fun playing with you, i'm sorry to hear that
 you've got to go ^_^
 <CDIO_MaAru> ::claps::
 <W2_LCTC_Daren> Right on!
 * Savant claps loudly
 <ENDR_Ungtae> ::claps:: Thanks for being a great XO, Dan.
 <W3_LJen_Farley> ::claps with a tear in the eye::
 <LJen_Skylooker> ::claps::
 <Savant> come back any time ^_^
 <W2_CRHL_Dejat> Or all the time, if possible ;)
 <FCCO_LoraKor> ::claps:: Thank you, Alffred. You've been Coro's finest
 XO on a ship that hasn't exactly hurt for great XOs.
 <FCCO_LoraKor> Well, WELL done.
 <Bentall> ::bows:: Thank you. :)
 <W2_CRHL_Dejat> Hey, look, Dan, you just got complimented big by Ross.
 You know that don't happen often ;)
 * Savant hears Ross and faints dead away
 <Bentall> ::grins::

 I got a message from Trooman indicating that if he couldn't make this sim,
 it probably meant that he'd have to drop out of Coro. :-/ Unfortunately,
 I didn't see him at the sim. Trooman, does this mean you're not coming
 back? Please send me an e-mail and let me know; thanks!

 Finally, next week continues a Coronado tradition: the annual April Fools
 Day Tongue-in-Cheek sim! This is the one sim a year that Coro does its
 best to be a parody of itself. ;-) Feel free to let your hair down and
 be a little silly. Coro's Tongue-in-Cheek sims are usually funny, always
 a little out of control... but they're never boring! See you next week!

 Sim Title: "Turnabout is Fair Play", Part 3

 <<Sorry for the extremely long summary; a lot happened! ;-)>>

 The ships of Task Group 5.4 finally received their final mission orders:
 the group was assembled to attempt the capture of a Romulan Ra'Kalen
 class destroyer. The Romulan advance has been fueled by the fact that
 many of their ships are transwarp-capable and equip cloaks far superior
 to the equivalent Starfleet technology, allowing them to strike with
 little or no warning. Vice Admiral Brian Aldur, commanding TG5.4, feels
 that it is imporant to close this "technology gap." He gathered the COs
 of TG5.4 to brief them on the overall plan, which involved distraction
 tactics to divert the local Romulan commander's attention from the fact
 that our new Wraith Liberators effect the capture of the ship.

 When Captain Lora Kor returned to Coronado, his first order of business
 was to inform Commander Jarod Bentall that he had been promoted to the
 rank of Captain! Bentall was also given the option to take command of
 one of the Fleet's Prometheus class ships, the U.S.S. Repulse. After
 briefing the remainder of the crew on the mission and timeline, we had
 only a few hours to practice the timing and procedures before the first
 Ra'Kalen destroyers entered the system and our mission began.

 Eight senior officers volunteered to act as the crews for the Wraiths
 after receiving training on the operational aspects of the corvettes.
 The remaining officers stayed aboard Coronado while the Wraiths carried
 out their mission. Before the cloaked Wraiths moved into position, Coro,
 Renegade, and U.S.S. Gryphon provided long-range bombardment of the
 target area as fire support. Our bombardment was timed to coincide with
 the overall defense of the system by Captain Salek's group, so as to not
 call too much attention to our own ships.

 Once the Wraiths locked onto the target, it was time for our distractions
 to start... unfortunately, before the Wraiths even reached their target,
 the bombardment group came under attack by a wing of Romulan attack
 destroyers. Gryphon, per the plan, escaped the system after a single
 exchange of fire. Two of the destroyers gave chase, leaving Coro,
 Renegade, and Resolute to deal with the remainder on their own. We were
 able to do this, but not without taking moderate damage as a result.

 In the meantime, once the Wraiths locked in and activated their White
 Lightning computer weapon, the Marines boarded the target. Capturing it
 was extremely difficult owing to the ferocity of the Romulan Marines --
 known as Rei'Krannsu, or "Rangers." In addition, the ship had harsh
 internal defenses. Worst of all, the Marines had to contend with the
 fact that when they were unable to self-destruct their ship, the Rangers
 opened fire on it and the Marines with their heaviest weapons, trying to
 destroy it from within. The Marines successfully captured the ship, but
 not without cost: 90 of them lost their lives, and the cloaking control
 systems on the ship took severe damage, destroying much of the ship's
 advanced cloaking capability but fortunately leaving the standard cloak
 intact. This, however, caused a further delay in the overall plan...

 Meanwhile, Coro, Renegade, and Resolute managed to break free of the
 destroyer wing only to be slowed by an even more serious threat: three
 Romulan heavy cruisers! Faced with a serious threat to his distraction
 group, Vice Admiral Aldur ordered the Spectres to drop their disguises
 and help protect the smallest ships. The two frigates and the Defiant
 escort were able to watch each other's backs, but not without watching
 fully half of the Spectres we brought with us destroyed in ramming
 attacks as their pilots beamed to Eternity's surface. By this time, we
 assumed the Romulans were sufficiently distracted and elected to
 regroup rather than follow the formal plan.

 The Stirling battle group was able to deal with the three Romulan heavy
 cruisers, but not without sustaining severe damage to the entire group
 and losing every escort ship they had smaller than a destroyer.

 While all of this was going on, however, the Wraiths *were* successful
 in towing the captured Ra'Kalen destroyer to the outwarp point, where
 two Atlas class tugs took it in tow. Once the tugs got safely away,
 though, the Wraiths were ambushed by a small flight of destroyers that
 had been tracking the poorly cloaked Atlases. Only the intervention
 of the remaining Spectres allowed the Wraiths to escape. Even so,
 every remaining Spectre was lost protecting the Wraiths. Even worse,
 Wraith Three, under the command of the newly minted Captain Bentall
 and crewed by Lieutenant JG Farley and Lt. Commander Savant came under
 heavy fire. The corvette was unable to protect its occupants and
 while Lieutenant Farley escaped with only minor injuries and Savant
 was essentially unaffected... Captain Bentall was killed. Savant was
 able to save the severely crippled Wraith...

 ...but this was small consolation. The damage has been done.

 Promotions:
    Jarod Bentall, from Commander to Captain
        Last promotion date: 15-May-00, 32 sims (inc. two double-length)
           Alffred has been the finest XO in nearly four years of Coro
           simming! He initially joined Coro as our Chief Engineer, doing
           an excellent job in that position before stepping in as acting
           CO when I took my LOA in December 2000. He more or less
           demanded that I take back over when I returned, and very
           gracefully stepped into the XO spot, which he filled with
           distinction for (weirdly) exactly one year. Thank you,
           Alffred, and hope to see you back on Coro soon!

    Thomas Wayne, from Marine Lt. Major to Marine Major
        Last promotion date: 13-Nov-00, 17 sims (inc. two double-length)
           Masters, aka Major Thomas Wayne, is one of Coro's best and most
           dependable simmers. As I write this, he has attended 39 Coro
           sims in a row, and no matter whether he's on the main plot or
           the sidelines, he always manages to make himself and his
           character part of the action! Great work, Masters! :-)

    Kariasa Ma'Aru, from Cadet to Ensign
        Last promotion date: None, 3 sims (inc. one double-length)
           Kari has only attended 3 sims as yet, but has done a terrific
           job if integrating herself into Coro and beginning to interact
           with the other characters! She seems to be fitting into our
           disfunctional family quite well and I look forward to watching
           her progress in the coming weeks. Keep up the good work!

 Recognitions:
    Starfleet Medal of Valor
       For outstanding work in the intact capture of a Romulan warship,

       Starfleet, going far above and beyond the call of duty:
          Captain Jarod Bentall (Posthumous)
          Commander Fornan Dejat
          Lt. Commander William Daren
          Lt. Commander Savant
          Major Thomas Wayne
          Lt. Zunite Oswald
          Lt. JG Jack C. Farley
          MCPO Olmeoaxaca Tlaloco

       outside of her normal training during a combat situation:
          Ensign Kariasa Ma'Aru

 Academy Completions:
    None this week.

 Exchange of the Week: Brief moment of levity... congrats again, Alffred. ;-)
 <FCCO_LoraKor> ::produces a PADD from somewhere:: Mr. Bentall, I have
 here a set of orders, written by Vice Admiral Brian Aldur, signed by the
 Fifth Fleet Commander, regarding you. It seems that it has been
 recognized what a problem you are.
 <CRXO_Bentall> I swear I didn't know she was the Admiral's daughter Sir.
 <LMSL_Wayne> LOL
