Notes from the Captain:
The Coro crew roster is full! And maybe then some by a little. ;-) If
you haven't already, please welcome Ensign Dave Mayo aboard, as played
by Spork. In addition, returning to us again is Phishie as 2nd
Lieutenant Natalia Petrovna! Welcome back, Allie, and welcome aboard,
Spork! In addition, please congratulate Daren, who was given his
well-deserved promotion to Commander this week! :-)

We're currently orbiting the large yellow star just "north" of Gateway.
To interpret this picture: Gateway is the red giant star we entered M64
nearby. Each square on this graphic represents a sector: an area of
space approximately 20 light-years on a side. For simplicity, this is a
2D drawing; assume that anything not shown is not important. ;-) The
colors of stars on the drawing represents the color of the star if we
visit it. Orange and yellow stars have the best chance of supporting
"life as we know it." The size of each star indicates the mass of things
in orbit. Larger dots are stars that have more mass in orbit -- planets
or other massive objects, in other words. The Gateway system has a
hypergate in orbit; other systems with hypergates would appear roughly
that same size on this or future drawings. However, we're not picking
up any other neutronium objects on this scan.
The six largest yellow star markers are the systems most likely to have
class M planets in orbit. The large yellow/white mass in the top center
is a very large, high energy nebula of some kind. As we do more
exploring, I'll be sending out other pictures like this one. :-)

Sim Title: "Voyager's Lament", Part 3
Coronado continued to hold station near the Type G0 yellow star "north"
of the Gateway system. Our orbit took us on a looping course from the
single class M planet in this system to its extensive outer asteroid
belt. Our purpose to holding in the system is two-fold: first, we have
been waiting for M.R.F. Pearl, U.S.S. Odyssey, and Pearl's escort ships
to arrive in the system. In addition, our own Wraith squadron was sent
to the system to refuel and will remain to defend Pearl and Odyssey.
Once Pearl entered the system, she proceeded to unfold and continue her
repairs to the severely crippled Odyssey. This system serves as an
ideal location for these repairs, since the system's two gas giants
offer deuterium in abundance and the asteroid belt is metal rich. With
Pearl's industrial replicators and repair capability, it is entirely
possible that Odyssey can be entirely repaired in this system.
While we were waiting, our other mission awaited: exploration of the
system's class M planet. Unusually, the planet is in a "locked" orbit,
perpetually showing a single face to its bright yellow star. As a
result, the planet is only marginally class M, with an extremely hot
sunward side and an extremely cold shadowed side. The Captain ordered
an away mission to the surface, especially as we have detected evidence
of advanced technology on the surface. The Boratis survey ship, still
in the system, was also conducting its own exploration of the planet.
While this Away mission proceeded, Lt. Commander Oswald instructed her
Engineering team to mount a shuttle mission to the system's asteroid
belt. We are still suffering fairly extensive heat and stress damage
to parts of the hull... damage severe enough that we will need the raw
materials provided by the asteroids to repair our hull. This shuttle
mission was completed without incident... probably becuase she delegated
it rather than participated in it, to Oswald's way of thinking...
On the surface, the Away team found extensive ruins comprising an
ancient city. The city showed signs of once being the home of an
advanced civilization... a civilization that must have died out hundreds
or thousands of years ago if they didn't escape the planet entirely.
Ruined structures, streets, and courtyards were visible everywhere the
team looked, as were alien artificats of unknown purpose. One such
artifact appeared to still be operational. Experimenting with the small
device, the Away team was able to make the holographic image of an
insect-like lifeform appear for a few seconds, followed by apparent
directional vectors and other information. The Away team will be
returning this and other objects to the ship for further analysis.
Meanwhile, Ensign Dave Mayo, covering Tactical for Commander Drexler,
reported the presence of a nearby cloaked ship. The cloaking technology
being used is extremely primitive, which allowed us to detect the ship
at fairly long range. The Captain ordered the Away teams to finish up
their work within six hours so that we can leave the system to intercept
and contact this badly cloaked vessel.
