Notes from the Captain:
Thanks to everyone who showed up and participated in Coro's Forth Annual
Tongue-in-Cheek sim! Hope y'all enjoyed it; it's not often that Coro
degrades into that level of silliness. The nice thing about such sims is
that if you show up the week after one, I can be safely assured that
you're either addicted to Coro, nuts, or both. ;-)
Well, I got a confirmation message from Trooman... he'll no longer be
able to make the Coronado sims. :-/ He *did* say that he'll be back to
guest from time to time, so I'll simply hope that the first such time is
soon and wish him all the best! On the positive end, he had a lot of
very nice things to say about Coro, so I think we can safely assume that
he's not leaving because we suck. ;-)
Sim Title: "Adverse Reaction"
We knew it was going to be an odd day aboard Coronado when Lieutenant
Janeway appeared on the bridge in a bunny suit. Coro is still with Task
Group 5.4, which has completed its run to Camelyn, our regrouping point.
Camelyn is a planet inhabited by a warp-capable humanoid civilization of
about late 23rd century development. However, Camelyn is unique in that
they are a mix of Middle Ages culture in Europe on Earth, most closely
resembling the feudal system of Spain and France. Knights, jousting,
personal combat, flowery speech and ritual, and honor are all traits of
the people here... but their technology gives the planet a unique twist.
Camelyn's people are rabidly anti-Romulan, but have always been staunch
Federation allies. As such, the planet made an excellent rallying point.
Since Task Group 5.4 took significant damage in the raid that captured the
Romulan destroyer, we had also planned to ask for several ships to help us
escort the destroyer and ensure it makes it to Starfleet R&D. However,
when we arrived in the Camelyn system, we found more than 800 small
fighter craft completed or under construction in the system... each one a
kamikaze vessel armed with biogenic weapons harmful only to those with
copper-based blood... Romulans, for instance. Vice Admiral Aldur soon
found himself in negotiations to attempt to prevent the Camelynians from
using these weapons. Even if their strike were successful, it would kill
billions of people and cause a severe escalation in the on-going F-K-R
War and virtually assure the planet's annihilation at Romulan hands.
Seeing that the Admiral's negotiations would go better if he could meet
the Camelynians face-to-face, Captain Lora Kor suggested that the Admiral
and the Camelynian delegation meet aboard a Wraith for a demonstration of
the technology. The Camelynian delegate, Duke Henry Gaveston Tudor,
agreed -- Camelynians have always been fascinated with interesting new
technology -- and the demonstration was arranged, with the Admiral and the
Duke's delegation meeting aboard Wraith One.
However, aboard ship, things were becoming decidedly... interesting.
Master Chief Tlaloco felt the need to mop the Bridge and Lieutenant
Janeway arrived for her duty shift dressed as the White Rabbit. While the
Captain was attempting to get control of these situations, Ensign Ma'Aru,
Commander Daren, and Colonel Ironside were having a conversation that
ranged from chess to camels to genocide. Things were just as bad or worse
aboard Wraith One, with Lieutenant Clayton and the entire Wraith crew
affected by whatever was affecting the ship. The symptoms got worse and
worse, including visions of a long line of people for some reason slapping
Commander Daren (they seemed to think he was hysterical) to the Colonel's
attempt to start a barbeque on the Bridge of the Coronado. Worst of all,
the Camelynians went from being rabidly intent on Romulan genocide to
rabid pacifists!
Fortunately, Doctor Ungtae was able to track the problem to a damaged
Wraith computer core. The Wraith cores apparently emit a very unusual
radiation when unshielded, radiation that was causing severe
hallucinations among the Coronado officers and crew. Once the Doctor
introduced the anti-agent into the ship's atmosphere, the effect began to
wear off. But we found that while most of what happened was
hallucinations, several elements were apparently real... including Colonel
Ironside's barbeque and apron, for instance...
