"How is he?" Commander Bentall asked.

Dalton turned around, amused. The two officers were currently in Sickbay,
which was somewhat empty despite the presumably Medical crisis. "'He' is
fine, physically. I sent 'him' to 'his' quarters," he said. The Ullian's
voice was tinged with its characteristic irony. "'He' still insists that
his name is Varani Kor, commanding officer of the U.S.S. Durance, however.
Fortunately, he no longer believes that this is a conspiracy; I gave him
access to ship's records so that he could catch up. That's presumably what
he's doing now."

Bentall nodded, worried. "And the rest of the crew?" he asked.

"About 15% are affected in one way or another," Dalton said. "Longer-lived
species like Vulcans, Trill symbionts, Klingons... they're affected more
strongly. Shorter-lived ones such as Humans and Betazoids are not affected
as much." Dalton frowned. "However, one thing that's odd: men are more
likely to be affected than women. Haven't figured that one out yet."

The conversation was interrupted by a call from the Bridge.

"Commander?" It was Lt. Commander Daren. "We've been trying to contact
Starbase 75, as you requested, and so far, we're not getting any
response..."

"That's odd," Bentall said.

"And a little disquieting, considering that they might be affected as well,"
Dalton put in.

"Yes, sir," Daren said. "However, we do have one clue... a Starfleet scout
that attempted to dock at the starbase was fired upon and had to retreat.
They're asking us for any information we have, since we're one of the last
ships to leave the area of the starbase."

Bentall frowned. "Commander Daren," he said at last, "can you send me any
information we have on the Starbase 75 staff down here? I seem to remember
something that might be a bit of a problem..."

While Daren complied, Bentall headed for a nearby console. Dalton, curious,
followed. The Exec pulled up the information on the Starbase 75 command
staff, then whistled between his teeth. Dalton snorted -- it might have
been a laugh, it might have been something else.

On the console, the base commander of Starbase 75 was revealed to be a
Klingon, Commander KarQ.
