 Notes from the Captain:

Excellent job, everyone!! :-) This, as I mentioned during the sim, was
 the final sim of Coronado Year 4!  As I write this, it is 29 August 2001;
Coro's very first sim took place four years ago today! It's been an
outstanding four years, and all of you are the reason why. :-) I want
to personally thank each and every one of you for what you bring to Coro
and for all of the fun that you've brought me in the past four years.
Let's keep showing anyone who asks which is the best IRC sim on the 'net!

As I also mentioned during the sim, Coro Year 5, which starts next Monday
is completely written from start to finish. :-) The whole year includes
a massive story arc that essentially covers the bulk of the story that I
brought the sim into the M64 galaxy to tell. I hope that all of you
enjoy it, and make it better by throwing the odd subplot and curve ball
 at me. ;-)

See you on Monday for Coro Year 5!

Remember, a very detailed map of the part of M64 we find ourselves in is
 available for your review at:

 http://www.jestertrek.com/m64/

Our current position is the Ji'sa system, which you'll find in Grid 002
(immediately to the left of Gateway on the large map on the first page).

Sim Title: "Black Ships", Part 2

U.S.S. Coronado had been ordered to the Ji'sa system to attempt to firm up
the alliance that the Reorsans established with this species. However,
when Coronado arrived, the Ji'sa Council -- apparently called the Sudyar
caste -- first insisted that the Captain remove six shuttlecraft that the
Reorsans had sold them. He and his away team were then taken to a large
grey metallic building, presumably the Sudyar Council chambers. Outside
this building, faced by Rinad and five other Councilors, the Captain and
his team were told that not only did the Ji'san desire that the team leave
immediately, but they also asked that we and our allies never return to
 Ji'sa again...

Following this rather stunning proclamation, the Captain requested some
time alone with the away team, which was granted. He also called the ship
to get their opinion. Many ideas were tossed about, from the possibility
that the Ji'sa had something to hide to the fact that by straight Prime
Directive rules, once the Ji'sa ask us to leave, we must comply. In
general, however, there was a feeling that the Reorsans had at some point
in the past bungled the relationship, and that bungling was only bearing
 fruit now.

Meanwhile, while the away team and officers on the ship discussed this,
the Sudyar caste themselves became embroiled in a heated argument with
what was apparently their warrior caste and their leader, Torek. A number
of Torek's people arrived, and began protesting something, though the away
team could not determine precisely what was being protested. The Captain
and his party were briefly brought back into this discussion long enough
to learn that the warrior caste disapproves of the Sudyar handling of
relations with outsiders. The warrior caste is apparently interested in
exploration, and claims the Sudyar oppress and murder those that express
 these feelings.

The argument swiftly turned violent when the Sudyar reacted to this, and a
warrior caste member pulled a weapon. Calling for an emergency beam-out,
the Captain and his team returned safely to Coronado... only to find a
civil war exploding on the planet below. The civil war escalated almost
immediately when the six Reorsan shuttlecraft, apparently under the
control of the warrior caste, launched an attack on the Sudyar Council
building. Meanwhile, a mob of people of mixed castes stormed the building
 on the ground.

This precipitated another argument aboard Coronado, specifically regarding
exactly what responsibility the Reorsans or Coro herself have in this
disaster. Colonel Ironside felt very strongly that Coro and Reorsa should
deal with whomever the victors were in the civil war and since the
shuttles were being used as weapons, we could not turn our backs. The
Captain and others were horrified to find Starfleet technology being used
to stage a coup d'etat, however, and over the objections of Coro's senior
Marine, ordered that the shuttles be removed from Ji'san control.

After getting advice from the remainder of the senior staff, the Captain
elected to place the shuttles out of Reorsan reach, ordering Commander
Drexler to remote pilot the craft to orbit of the system's fifth planet.
The Captain then very firmly communicated to the Ji'san warrior caste (who
informed us that their coup had been successful) that while Coronado and
the Reorsans might approve of their exploratory tendencies, they did NOT
approve of using Starfleet technology to inflict violence. He further
informed the Ji'san that their shuttles were "nearby" and transmitted the
wish that by the time the Ji'sa find them, they will have gained a greater
understanding of the responsibilities that go with advanced knowledge...

 Promotions:
Kyle Marcy, from Ensign to Lieutenant (JG)
Last promotion date: 28-May-01, 10 sims
Though he still owes me a bio [;-)], Lieutenant Marcy has done
an excellent job with what is often a chaotic environment on
Coronado, staking out his position and working very well with
the other officers. Well done, Lieutenant!

 Recognitions:
     Technical Excellance Medal
        Lieutenant Jack C. Farley
For outstanding effort in the Engineering discipline,
specifically for his work during the Traxati attack and later
communications efforts in the Enigma system.

     Bronze Star for Service (OOC)
        Savant aka Commander Savant
        Masters aka Major Thomas Wayne
For 18 or more months of service to U.S.S. Coronado in a senior
position, while performing all duties in an exemplary manner.

     Meritorious Service Medal (OOC)
CCC aka Lieutenant Jack C. Farley
For 12 or more months of service to U.S.S. Coronado in any
position, while performing all duties in an exemplary manner.

     Star Cross for Merit (OOC)
        Daren aka Commander William Daren
For contributions to the direct enjoyment of the Coronado sim,
specifically writing and directing a Coro sim, which... and I
have expertise in this area... is hard work. ;-) Well done!

     Starfleet Commendation (OOC)
        Daren aka Commander William Daren
For outstanding work in character development and role-playing.

 Academy Completions:
None this week. (Get out there and take a class!)

Exchange of the Week: Oh, ye of little faith! ;-)
<LCSI_KathJaneway> Weren't there instances in fleet history where items
were left on planets and other ships had to return and either destroy
 them or take them back?
<LCSI_KathJaneway> Despite how it had already affected the planet?
<Savant> Commander Janeway is correct, that *is* the prescident.
 <L1CC_Moore> <<Hmmm A prime directive debate on the Coro. Who'd a thunk
 it?>>
<COMC_Ironside> ::looks over at Drexler:: And if the current caste in
government were not so opposed to change, and did not support the
exchange with the Reorsans than this would not be happening either.
<FCCO_LoraKor> ::nods:: Agreed. We destroy or disable the shuttles,
 but don't otherwise get involved.
 <LCSI_KathJaneway> <<with a janeway in the middle.....lol>>
<FCCO_LoraKor> Anyone who wishes to object, do so now, and it will be
 noted in my log.
