Notes from the Captain:
Despite the fact that a couple of simmers were disappointed with their
own performances ( ;) see below), I thought that was a pretty good sim!
We'll be slowing the pace a bit going into the holidays. See you next
week!
Sim Title: "In the Absense of Negative Proof", Part 3
Coronado rushed back to the Delta Penora system and its single blue-black
gas giant after determining that this planet was probably the source of
our difficulties. While en route, we learned some things about the rose
smell that had permeated the ship: apparently, it represented a semi-
intelligent gaseous lifeform! However, it was reasonably clear that this
lifeform could not possibly be the intelligence that was attempting to
communicate with us through Daren and Phontam. While Coro was en route,
those two officers apparently learned how to communicate with the
intelligence possessing them. Unfortunately, that possession was
continuing to kill them slowly.
While the Exec attempted to negotiate with the lifeforms, the Captain
made arrangements for the last ship to visit the system, the Minotaur, to
return to the system along with an atmospheric sample that they removed
from Delta Penora One. However, there was still no sign of Lieutenants
Oswald or Wayne. We learned only later that they had been completely
dephased, but were still roaming the ship unable to get anyone to see
them or be able to detect them.
When it became clear that the lifeforms were able to communicate more
effectively, the Captain moved to Sickbay to speak with them and attempt
to negotiate the return of Lieutenants Wayne and Oswald. The lifeform's
name for itself is apparently the Eldzi, and they spent some time accusing
the Coronado crew of kidnapping. After some clarification, it became
clear that the Eldzi were speaking of the gaseous lifeform samples that
we inadvertently beamed to Coro from the duplicate Starbase. After
returning the lifeforms, the Eldzi released Daren and Phontam.
We didn't learn very much about the Eldzi, but at least we now know there
are developing lifeforms in the Delta Penora system. We also secured the
release of Lieutenants Wayne and Oswald. The Captain ordered the Delta
Penora system quarantined. Commander Daren and Ensign Phontam are
continuing to recover from their ordeal, and will be debriefed on anything
they may have learned about the Eldzi in due course.
