Notes from the Captain:
Another big welcome to our new crew members! Both CCC and John seem to
have jumped in with both feet. ;) Welcome again, gents, and may your days
aboard Coronado be long and productive indeed!
In addition, I have it on very good authority that we're going to have at
least one, and quite likely two past Coronado simmers rejoining us on a
permanent basis starting next week, in addition to being able to welcome
Ragarok back in a new role! Assuming that's true, then I'll be once again
locking down the roster and we'll see how we do for a while. ;)
On top of everything else, I think we had a terrific sim this week! I must
admit to laughing out loud when I got to tell Daren that there were several
*hundred* Traxati probes heading for us. ;) We'll be learning more and
more about the Traxati's behaviour in the weeks ahead. Expect this plot
thread to run for at least another month to six weeks... As I pointed out
last week, this plot is part of an overall Fifth ("Epsilon") Fleet plot
that many of our sister ships are also taking part in!

::grins:: Cadet Skylooker has the honor of holding that rank
longer than nearly every other Cadet in Coro history (his department
head holds the record). After a long absense after his first two
sims, I was pleased to be able to promote Skylooker after his third.
Welcome back, Ensign, and hope we see a little more of you! ;)

Sim Title: "Where You Can't Escape", Part 3
After escorting the Erasmus into Starbase 742 and confirming her safe
arrival, Coro stopped there only long enough to pick up a few new crew who
had been awaiting the ship there. In addition, Lieutenant Ji'Kohr, the
Fifth Fleet Science Advisor, remained on board to assist us in the
investigation of the starship disappearances which have been plaguing the
long run between Starbases 247 and 742. With that mission in mind, Coro
turned and proceeded "north" again at slipstream velocity, looking for
clues into the disappearances.
Our course returned us to the Talos Star Group, where we recently uncovered
evidence of the presence of both the Traxati and the mysterious insectoid
species that seems related to them somehow. Entering the group, Coro's
officers contemplated a holographic display: on the display, flickering
lights indicating stars, other astronomical features... and the last known
locations of more than two dozen missing starships. The Captain focused
his attention on one of the missing Gorn freighters. After a somewhat
involved analysis of both the back-trail of the Gorn ship and Gorn
personality, we were able to identify two stars which seemed to warrant
further investigation.
Entering the area around the two stars in the Talos Star Group, we
encountered not one, but two Traxati hypergates. One, orbiting a red giant
star, was a relatively routine gate... as much as any Traxati hypergate can
be routine. As we watched, five warp drive-equipped Traxati probes leapt
out of the gate and sped toward Starbase 247. After warning the base, we
proceeded to more closely investigate the second gate, orbiting an orange
star. This gate was very unusual... it appeared to have several hundred
large objects clinging to it! The objects were somewhat reminiscent of
squids or octopuses, and looked very much like the creature that attacked
the Away team on the doomed planet on which the freighter crashed.
As Coro did not detect any probes at first, the ship slipped close to the
gate in order to investigate the other side. The investigation was... very
brief. Just as we were getting into position, several *hundred* Traxati
probes dropped out of warp, presumably deployed from the other gate. All
of them began producing clouds of neutronium needles! Coro screamed away
from the gate, sure we were under attack. Fortunately, the Traxati probes
ignored the ship completely, passing as a group through the orange star
gateway! Sending one of our own sensor relay pods through the gate only
gained us one piece of information: the pod didn't return...
