Notes from the Captain:
Have I mentioned how much I enjoy August? ;) 'twill be a fine, fine day
when everyone gets back from vacation and we can settle into some serious
simming for the fall. :)
However, welcome to Whiilain, who joined the crew this week! Nominally
part of the Intel/Science staff, I suspect Whiilain will be a sort of
utility infielder until the anniversary sims start in late August. ;)
Welcome aboard, Whiilain!
Unfortunately, NickC, aka 1st Lieutenant Nick Curcio, has told me that he
needs to ("temporarily or indefinitely") retire his character due to lack of
time to participate in the Coro. :/ We will miss you, Nick! Please come
back to us as soon as you can!

Sim Title: "Patent Pending", Part 3
U.S.S. Atlantis, the ship we had been slated to meet as part of one of
Starfleet's LORASON tests, was nothing more than a scattered field of
debris. The ship, Hahn class, had been fitted with a slipstream core. The
Coro crew noticed almost immediately that the core was missing from the
debris field. However, we had very little time to consider this because a
group of four manta-shaped ships, undetected by the LORASON system,
decloaked around the Coronado and attacked!
Ambushed and outnumbered four to one, the ship took a frightful beating.
Coro's standard ploy in this situation would have been to outrun the Omega
ships and perhaps engage them in a running firefight, but with fighters
launched, that would have meant condemning the fighter pilots to a grisly
death or worse still, capture by the Omega. As a result, the Captain
ordered a daring game of cat-and-mouse, using the frigate's superior
maneuverability to avoid the brunt of the fire while trying to get our
fighter pilots on board. This plan probably would have worked, had four
additional Omega craft not decloaked. The second wave of fire overwhelmed
Coro's defenses; the Captain and Lieutenant Daren were killed and Savant's
program was overloaded; the ship was in danger of being destroyed...
...before the Professor of all people called for the computer to "end
program." Of course, it was another of Starfleet's tests, this one
designed to test the crew's reaction to an overwhelming situation and
occurring in a holodeck. Rather than stressing real people and equipment,
Starfleet is considering a plan to run these tests on holographic ships
and crew personality profiles in a holodeck. The Captain was of the
opinion that the idea needed a little work, but was pleased that the Coro's
actual running was not interrupted.
Connolly, Torlea, and Greenbaugh disembarked to the real U.S.S. Atlantis,
as did the Professor hologram, hopefully leaving Savant's matrix repaired
in his wake. The LORASON tests were successful, Commander Bentall has
returned aboard after testifying in the matter of Captain Swift, and Coro
is preparing for her next mission.
