Notes from the Captain:

Well, the August doldrums seem to be wearing off, thank the Heavens. :)
Welcome back, everyone who was on vacation or otherwise indisposed during
August! Since next week is an American holiday -- Labor Day -- next week's
sim will be a prelude sim to the real action, which will begin on September
11. :)

Ooops. :) In last week's sim report, I mistakenly forgot to include the
promotion comments for Velorna Tal, substituting Colonel Ironside's
comments instead. The correct comments are listed below. At least now I
know who's reading the sim reports and who's not. Not counting Tinky
himself, exactly three people caught the mistake... ;)

Whiilain, where are you? You've now missed three sims in a row. If you
miss either the sim on September 4 or September 11, I will be forced to
remove you from Coro's roster.

Velorna Tal, from Lt. Commander to Commander
Last promotion date: 28-Jun-99, 26 sims on Coro, ?? on Quantum Fury
Lt. Commander Tal is an outstanding officer with a fine service
record; she is a two-time winner of the Starfleet Achievement Medal,
among other honors. An excellent command officer, she has an
intuitive understanding of most, if not all, of the aspects of
starship operations.

<CLMC_Ironside> ::looks over his shoulder, scowls at Bentall on the floor
and rushes over, calling for another medic::
<LTDR_Dalton> Silent Waiter> ::holds up a small erasable sign, on which is
handwritten 'Spacesickness, maybe'::
<CLMC_Ironside> ::kneels down beside Bentall, turning his head so he can
look the XO over:: Commander?
<CRXO_Bentall> ::groans as he is moved, then throws up all over Ironside::
<CLMC_Ironside> ::looks down at his trousers and frowns:: I suppose you
may be right. I appreciate the heads up, good sir. ::glancing back at the
waiter::

Exchange of the Week, log edition: This hasn't been the Colonel's week...
"Um, sir....it, well...it seems that your Concussion Rifle has...um...
gonemissingfromthearmoury." The Lieutenant rushed through the last bit,
trying to not to let it slip out.
Ironside arched an eyebrow, looking at Stampfer, "Is this true, Captain?"
"I'm afraid so, sir."

Sim Title: "The Derelict", Part 2

The situation aboard Coronado was grave. Many systems, including sensors,
communications, deflectors, and computer control were disabled by whatever
it was that was destroying crystalline structures aboard ship. Other
systems, including phasers and the crystalline control panels, were also
being affected. In particular, without sensors and computer control, it
was unlikely that Coro would be able to determine what exactly was causing
the crystal breakdowns, much less find a solution. Without communications,
we were also unable to call for help. With the Coro so far out into the
empty part of the galaxy between the Saggitarius and Capricorn arms of the
Milky Way galaxy, it was likely that Coro might very well become another
death ship, like our alien companion.

Fortunately, Dr. Dalton, apparently angered by the loss of his significant
collection of glassware and the beverages stored within it in Coro's
Seventh Heaven lounge, discovered a likely cause. After some hard fought
negotiations with the Captain regarding compensation for his losses, he
agreed to share his findings. It seems that some kind of alien virus was
responsible for the crystal breakdowns. This virus, apparently a product
of the aliens' technology, breaks down crystal formations and uses the
resulting crystalline structures to rebuild their own technology. That
virus had apparently mistaken Coro's crystals for rebuilding material for
the severely damaged alien craft.

With the help of Dalton's findings, and a Cardassian tricorder brought
aboard by Commander Dejat, the Captain was able to formulate a plan to save
the Coronado. The Captain, a former geneticist, led a team made up of
himself, Dalton, Dejat, and Lieutenant Ian down to Sickbay. Commander
Dejat used his tricorder (which does not use crystalline structures) to
create a wireless link to the main computer (which also does not) in order
to control a viral imaging scanner and resequencer in Sickbay. With the
help of this device, the Captain and Dalton were able to reprogram the
virus to rebuild Coro's crystalline structures instead of the alien ones.

While we are still no closer to understanding the aliens' species or
technology, the virus they created to apparently build and repair their
ships is an interesting insight into their thinking. A science team will
be dispatched to further study the alien vessel. Coronado, meanwhile,
will continue on toward Starbase 247, and from there, to Starbase 742.
