The lights in the Ready Room were off, making the eerie light given off by
the slipstream corridor and the reflection from the ship's warp engines and
deflector dish from it the only illumination. On the computer screen on the
desk, some minor bit of paper work sat forgotten as Captain Tebrun Lora Kor
watched the conduit and drank tea, nursing a somewhat reflective mood.

One of the recent, more minor changes to the ship had been an upgrade to the
Bridge module. While the new Bridge was basically identical to the old one,
but for some computer and secondary system upgrades, it did feature bay and
aft windows in both the Ready Room and Conference Room. The bay windows, in
particular, had taken some getting used to, as they curved upward slightly,
allowing for both a side and overhead view of the space outside the ship.
Tetroburnium seals were another addition, able to snap down over all of the
windows in the space of a few microseconds when the ship was at alert
status.

However, after getting used to them, the Captain had finally decided they
were among his favorite of the new upgrades. The view in normal space was
quite spectacular, and the view at warp or slipstream was very relaxing.
Kor let his mind float back and forth, allowing new memories to permeate the
symbiont within him, and make connections to older memories. It was a
useful Trill mental discipline and sometimes brought buried realizations and
subconscious thoughts to the waking surface, where the host could act on
them--

"Bridge to Captain," Fornan Dejat's voice said.

Kor's reverie was interrupted by the Ready Room comm. He reset the lights,
and took an extra few seconds to allow his thoughts to mesh and for his
symbiont to reconnect, then answered the call. "Captain here," he said, "go
ahead."

"Captain, I think you might want to take a look at this," Dejat said.
"LORASON has picked up a ship near our present course."

Lieutenant Daren, at Tactical, broke into the call at that point. "Captain,
it appears to be dead in space, and if sensors are accurate, it's ancient.
Maybe thousands... tens of thousands years old."

Lora Kor nodded at the empty room. "Thank you, gentlemen. I'm on my way."
