U.S.S. Coronado holding position 40,000 kilometers from the Klingon border,
near sector 052. After escorting Ka'tek vestai-Kharas to Qo'noS for his
installment ceremony as a member of the Klingon High Council, we have
returned to this position on the orders of Vice Admiral Brian Aldur. We
are awaiting the arrival of the U.S.S. Swiftsure.

Swiftsure is carrying a Federation propulsion specialist, who wishes to
conduct a number of tests of our slipstream drive system. Although we have
used the drive successfully in a number of our previous missions, the full
capability of the quantum phase inversion propulsion system is still
unknown. The specialist, one Lt. Commander Jason Reckoning, has created
quite a stir in Starfleet theoretical propulsion circles with his theories
related to the slipstream drive system.

Commander Reckoning believes that in theory, there are "currents" in the
quantum realm that a slipstream-capable starship enters that might be tapped
to gain even more speed and more efficiency from the drive system. If the
Commander's theory is correct, it might be possible for Coronado to cross
even more vast distances using our drive than we have to date.

During the test, we will be entering the slipstream realm on no particular
course. We will be attempting to detect these currents, but for the moment
we are under no orders to actually catch one. Engineering and Science teams
will work together in an attempt to gain detailed sensor analyses of the
currents for a later slipstream test.
