 Coronado Crew Update:
    The Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. Coronado, Commander Tebrun Lora,
 begins an extended Leave of Absense, effective immediately.  Lt. Jarod
 Bentall, formerly the Chief Engineer, was promoted to Lt. Commander and is
 the new Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. Coronado, effective immediately!

     Lt. Commander Bentall will select his Executive Officer next week.  :)

     In addition, Lt. Major Jeremy Ironside and Lt. Fornan Dejat were both
 recognized with the Starfleet Service Medal for their exceptional and long
 service to the U.S.S. Coronado.  Please congratulate all three of these
 officers when you see them!  :)

 Sim Title: "Caravan to Antares", Part 3

 Coronado has completed her scouting mission on the far side of the Traxati
 hypergate.  Commander Lora called a staff meeting in the wardroom to discuss
 the results of the sensor scans of the two dozen systems closest to the
 gate.  Unfortunately, we didn't find a single candidate system for the
 founding of the new Federation -- every system containing a class M planet
 that we scanned was established as being completely hostile to life through
 some sort of hostile action.  In particular, a primitive weather satellite
 was able to capture a picture of a starship which bombarded one of the
 planets from orbit.

 Concentrating on the data contained in the weather satellite and the remains
 of this planet's systems, Ensign T'Prax was able to determine that the
 destroyed species was called the Dru'apa.  The Dru'apans name for the second
 species is the Xenthrite, but there is no way of knowing if that is what
 this lifeform calls itself.  In appearance, Xenthrite turned out to be three
 meters tall, insectoid, and green-brown in color... in other words, they
 appear identical to the "insect conquerors" of the Moltarr.  The Moltarr
 homeworld, however, is more than 70,000 light-years from the hypergate exit.
 Apparently, the Xenthrite have a long reach despite the fact that no
 evidence of their activities has been discovered in the intervening space.

 As the meeting was breaking up, the Bridge reported that the influx of the
 "Thousand Ships" began, apparently in a rush.  Seeing the haste with which
 the evacuation began, many of the Bridge officers guessed that the hypergate
 must be under attack by the Borg.  This suspicion turned out to be accurate:
 the Borg attacked the Thousand Ships with seven cubes.  Rather than fighting
 what might turn into a massacre, the Federation elected to begin the
 evacuation early, salvage what they could, and destroy the gate, lest the
 Borg use it.  Coronado returned to 2399 knowing that we have four years to
 prevent this senseless tragedy before it happens.  Commander Lora ordered
 everyone aboard not to speak of what we have learned.
