Sim Title: "Eyes Bright with Purpose", Part 2
U.S.S. Coronado was en route for Starbase 247 for hull and engine repairs
when a large fleet of primitive spacecraft were detected on sensors.
Numbering nearly 500, the ships were moving at 10% of light speed, based
on nuclear fusion propulsion and ablative protection from the interstellar
environment. No deflectors were evident, but the ships were heavily armed:
virtually all of them are carrying heavy lasers and apparent missile
emplacements. Repairs would have to wait...
After careful observation of the alien fleet for several hours, Cadet
Oswald was able to tap into their communications database and began
examining their library. She discovered that they call themselves Moltar
or Moltarians and that their home planet used to be in the MJ-1043 system.
However, that system is made up of two asteroid belts circling binary stars.
Further research revealed at the Moltarian home system had apparently been
invaded by an insect-like race of conquerors. The Moltarians attempted to
fight back against the invaders but were forced to flee in their make-shift
fleet. Some months later, they monitored the destruction of their home
planet by unknown means.
While Cadet Oswald was searching the database, an Away team selected by Lt.
Commander Tal prepared to contact the Moltarians in a shuttlecraft.
Unfortunately, mysterious power problems with the shuttle (which Mr. Dalton
believed Lt. Dejat was the cause of) prevented a successful contact.
Further, when they detected the shuttle, the Moltarians reacted almost
instantly, leading Commander Lora to believe that this race has become
paranoid, xenophobic, or both. We have elected not to interfere further
with their flight for now, and are proceeding to MJ-1043 to investigate the
former home system of the Moltarians.
