"Are we in scanning range yet?"

"Not yet, Captain," Lieutenant Drexler responded. "Almost."

Commander Lora turned as the turbolift doors opened and Lt. Commander Tal
stepped onto the Bridge. Lora smiled. "Good morning, Exec."

For her part, Tal was somewhat amused. "Another long night, I take it,
Captain?"

Lora nodded. "Something like that. Savant, let's bring the Exec up to
speed."

The command interface hologram appeared, wearing its typical winsome smile.
"Certainly, Captain. Commander, at 0330 hours, Ensign Krishtak, while
manning third watch, informed the Captain that a large fleet of starships
had been detected on long-range sensors."

Tal started. "A fleet?"

"Coming into range now, Captain," Lieutenant Drexler interjected. At
Science, Lt. Trq turned the full lateral sensors on the starships as Coro
continued its approach at high warp.

Savant, meanwhile, nodded. "They had not been previously detected because
the technology in use aboard these ships is quite primitive. We are not
reading warp drive, subspace transmitters, or modern technology of any
kind." Savant paused momentarily as if considering this, then continued.
"They are being driven by fusion-based nuclear propulsion systems. No
deflector shields are in use, but I am reading substantial weaponry,
including laser emitters and missile ports."

Lora nodded. "Thank you, Savant. Lieutenant Drexler, let's see them."

The holographic tank flickered to life, displaying Coronado in the center,
still approaching the fleet at high warp. At the ship's current distance,
the fleet appeared only a points of light -- hundreds of points of light.

"Commander," Lieutenant Drexler said, "each of those markers is a starship
larger than our own, moving through normal space at approximately 9% light
speed. As... Savant said, there are no deflectors in evidence. They are
apparently using some sort of ablative material to protect them from
interstellar dust and debris."

"They're on a direct course for the Zendi star system," Lieutenant Dejat
added from Helm. "They'll arrive in something over 600 years at their
current speed," he said, somewhat amused.

Tal nodded. "How MANY starships, Lieutenant Drexler?"

Drexler turned to look at the display himself before answering. "So far,
sensors are picking up four hundred and ninety-two of them, sir."
