Sim Title: "Illusion Weavers", Part 2
After spending more than 20 hours in the MJ-1020 system, we have learned
much more about the single planet orbiting this star. Nicknamed "Blinker"
by the science teams, the planet goes through 81 distinct variations, each
lasting about 2.2 minutes. Many of the variations are class M. The ring
orbiting the planet at 100,000 kilometers is made of neutronium and is
apparently spinning around the planet, at very nearly the speed of light.
It is not known how Blinker varies, nor how the ring was constructed or
start its spun, or even why it is spinning.
Commander Lora renamed the system the Iju system, which is apparently the
Trill word for "deceit" or "deception." After consulting with the Marine
and Science teams, the Commander elected to send a small survey team to one
of the variations to attempt to learn more about the Killers and their
technology. Particularly important would be information about their
location and motives, secondarily, what purpose Blinker and its ring serve.
Lt. Major Ironside and Lt. Trq agreed to lead the Away team, Ironside
providing defense, Trq leading a science team. Variation number 43 was
chosen as the initial target.
After placing transport extenders into orbit about Blinker, the Marine
strike team beamed down to variation 43 and set up a perimeter. The
science team then followed. Soon after, the gray neutronium ring vanished
from the skies of variation 43... presumably to return in just under three
hours. Coronado fell away from Blinker with minor damage to structure and
engines caused by close proximity to the massive ring structure. Once
clear, the ship settled down to wait for variation 43 to reappear so that
the Away team, hopefully with new information, can be recovered.
