Sim Title: "Welcome to Coronado!"
After learning from retired Commodore Jared Marshall that Starfleet's first
slipstream drive starship was in danger of being destroyed by the
"Vanguard," Tebrun Kor raced to Utopia Planitia Shipyards in an attempt to
prevent the ship's destruction. Marshall also informed him that Starfleet
Intelligence was apparently corrupt, and had no plans to prevent the ship's
destruction. Kor, a Trill, was the new host for former Admiral Varani Kor,
who had originally authorized the ship's construction a decade before.
To prevent his name from being recognized, Tebrun entered the system as
"Tebrun Lora," his given name. Contacting Mr. Dalton at UP, the two of
them beamed aboard the ship. Once aboard, he met most of the ship's key
officers, who had already been assigned in preparation for the ship's
launch, two weeks hence. However, the Medical staff had not yet come
aboard, and there was no CO or XO assigned to the ship as yet. Tebrun and
Dalton informed the acting commander, Velorna Tal, that the Vanguard's plan
had changed: they were going to attempt to capture the starship, apparently
with the tacit approval of key members of Starfleet Intelligence.
The ship's Marines were brought aboard the frigate early to secure the ship
against Vanguard intruders. Unfortunately, when their plan to capture the
ship failed, the terrorists armed a tricobalt explosive secured aboard
Coronado during her construction. A pair of their ships also attacked the
frigate. Vice Admiral Brian Aldur, a confidant of Commodore Marshall's,
contacted Lora and ordered him to take command of Coro and launch the ship,
primarily to keep her out of the hands of Starfleet Intelligence and the
Vanguard. The explosive was found and disarmed, then used as a mine to
facilitate the ship's escape from the Sol system.
