 The transporter energized, sweeping Commander DuLac and his away team down
 to the planet surface.  Meanwhile, the changes wrought by Toria's two
 timeshifts rippled away from the Danav system, sweeping across anything
 unprotected in their path.

 As the first timeshift swept through Federation space, boundaries changed
 and colonies disappeared, the effect of Brian Aldur's failure to live past
 nine years old having its impact.  As a Marine pilot, Aldur had been
 instrumental in preventing a Cardassian incursion into the Berengaria
 sector.  As the time ripple passed, Berengaria became a Cardassian
 protectorate.  As a Helmsman on the U.S.S. Gryphon, he had saved the ship
 from certain destruction when a Federation colony came under Borg attack.
 The Gryphon destroyed in the new timeline, a swath of Federation space was
 clipped off by the Borg.  As the ripple passed through systems closer to
 the Federation core, the damage to the timeline became more and more
 severe.  An intervention against a Romulan attack on the timeline some
 two years in the past provided the final blow: the Romulans' attack on the
 timeline was successful in the new history.

 The damage instigated by Marshall's disappearance was every bit as
 disastrous in its own way.  In the new Romulan-controlled timeline,
 Marshall had been an important Terran resistance leader.  His failure to
 exist clamped the Romulan fist down around humanity all the more firmly.
 Pilots and soldiers and entire families saved by Marshall in the new
 timeline were wiped out as the second ripple passed.  Without his
 interference, Romulan space increased to clip off large sections of what
 would have been Klingon and Cardassian space.

 Toria, ironically, never learned that her actions not only destroyed
 Section 31, but the Federation itself.  Had she known, she might have
 even been willing to help the Away team.  She never learned.

 As change piled on change, paradox piled on paradox, the space around the
 Danav system stretched... twisted... began to tear...  Communications
 outside the system soon became impossible.  As the stresses increased, the
 Danav system seemed to disappear -- as far as the rest of the universe was
 concerned, of course...
