"So far, things seem to be going exactly as you predicted they would,
Captain," Tood Marshall said approvingly. Aldur leaned over his shoulder
as both watched the Coronado's assault runabout attempt to catch the much
quicker Norway class Panache.
"Let's not get overconfident just yet, Commander," Aldur said quietly.
"Section 31 has been in hiding for more than 200 years now, and it's going
to take all of our concentration to get even a small victory against them."
Marshall nodded. "Understood." He paused. "Want to move to the next
phase?"
Aldur said nothing, but merely nodded.
Grinning, Marshall turned back to the Tactical board and tapped a few pads.
One of the screens -- previously dark -- lit up. "Remote override has been
established," the computer said. Tapping quickly, Marshall established
control over the speeding runabout, locking out the local controls, then
raising the ship's shields.
Meanwhile, Aldur turned to Lehman at the Helm. "Bring us out of warp,
Commander, and intercept the Bishop." Noting Lehman's crisp
acknowledgement, he turned to Sirius. "Disengage cloak and stand by
shuttlebay."
"One member of Section 31 captured, Captain," Marshall said from his own
station. "Bringing him out of warp." Aldur nodded and headed for the
Bridge's one turbolift.
"You're with me, Commander Marshall." Once Marshall was aboard and the
turbolift was on its way to the shuttlebay, Marshall turned to Aldur.
"How did you know he was going to go for the Bishop, skipper?" Marshall
asked. Wiring the remote override into the runabout's systems had been a
bear of a job, and it had taken Sandra and Zuran together more than a day
to bring it off.
Aldur smiled a ghostly smile. "A combination of Wallace's personality
and the fact that I didn't give him any other choice. The Coro's engines
were cold, and I had all the other fighters and shuttles removed." The
Captain paused, considering. "I've had several months to watch Mr.
Wallace at close range, remember. He could have let us go, and trusted
the defenses of the Danav system, but that isn't his way."
Marshall considered this. "He's a man of action," the Commander said
finally, chuckling at the irony of it. Aldur nodded.
"That he is." The turbolift stopped and the two officers crossed to the
ship's shuttlebay, in time to see the runabout being taken aboard.
Commander DuLac and two large men dressed all in grey were already there
watching the Bishop come in. It neatly filled the relatively small bay.
Aldur nodded once at DuLac, then turned to watch as the runabout set down.
He tapped his combadge.
"Bridge, this is Aldur. Confirm temporal shields and containment fields
are up, please." Sirius' voice was almost immediate as he confirmed this.
Aldur turned to Marshall. "Open the hatch," he said simply.
As the two grey-cloaked strangers drew their swords, the hatch opened. A
moment later, Major Dev Wallace stepped out. The Major's combadge was
active, and a woman's voice was audible on it, yelling something about her
inability to get a lock. DuLac reached out, snake quick, and snapped the
combadge off Wallace's chest. A moment later, the silver and gold badge
had been reduced to scrap under DuLac's boot.
Wallace's expression, initially somewhat resigned, became angry. "I
should have known," he said finally, looking from Aldur to DuLac to
Marshall to the two Shadow Knights.
Aldur smiled more fully. "Probably. You're looking remarkably fit for a
dead man, Major." He paused, glancing at the two sword-armed men mere
feet from Wallace. "It's time to decide what side you're on."
