 Athens, 455 B.C.

 Arlean walked quickly, his stride long, his feet moving swiftly despite he
 flowing folds of the toga and shoulder-wrap that he wore.  As he
 approached the Council Chambers, he could hear the conversations in the
 room -- they were as quick and agitated as he felt.  He caught sight of
 Pericles as the page announced him into the room.

 "Arlean, Archon of the Erechtheum district!"

 Pericles, democratically-elected leader of Athens' Council of Elders, turned
 to his friend.  "What word from the Oracle?  Did the Gods reveal how these
 attacks could be stopped?"

 Cliesthenes, Archon of the Temple district, and eldest member of the
 Council, interrupted.  "And did they say who would stop them?  These
 Warriors of Pan are vicious enemies, and have weapons that must be from
 Hades himself!"

 Pericles turned to the elder Archon, "Please friend, do not interrupt." 
 He turned back to Arlean.  "Well?  What did the Oracle have to say?"

 Arlean replied, "My messenger returned from Delphi this morning.  The
 Oracle told him that a group of champions must be found to defend us from
 these Warriors, and drive them from our shores."

 Pericles nodded.  "Did the Oracle say where to seek out these champions?"

 Arlean nodded, troubled.  "Yes, but the answer was very cryptic: 'Look to
 the stars for your champions.  Look to the future.'"
