 Earth/Federation Historical Timeline Summary:
 (All dates Earth Old Date Standard)

 1963: U.S.S. Coronado, acting under orders from the Department of Temporal
 Investigations, prevents an earlier alteration of the timeline that
 resulted in the death of John F. Kennedy.  In the restored timeline, JFK
 lives, but is mentally and physically incapacitated.

 1964: JFK attributes his miraculous recovery from his gunshot wound to the
 kiwi fruit.  A kiwi craze sweeps the nation.  Soon, every home in America
 has a kiwi tree in their back yard, many in place "because Jackie has
 one."  Orchards in California and Florida switch from oranges and lemons
 to kiwi production.

 1965: Unable to meet rising demands for kiwi products across the western
 hemisphere and Europe, several governments fall, and are replaced with
 more kiwi-friendly versions.  Fidel Castrol is overthrown, and Cuba's
 entire agricultural output is diverted to kiwi production.

 1966: Nikita Kruschev publically denounces the kiwi fruit as a "pathetic,
 capitalist attempt at a cure-all for the world's woes."  He vows that no
 Eastern Bloc nation will grow the kiwi, nor will kiwi products be made
 available.  U.S./Soviet relations become more and more adversarial.

 1969: Neil Armstrong walks on the moon.  Among his first words from the
 lunar surface: "It is only by the grace of that Divine Fruit, the kiwi,
 that this miracle could take place."  Anti-kiwi forces topple several
 previously kiwi-friendly regimes and burn kiwi orchards.  Factions
 sympathetic to the anti-kiwi cause arise in the U.S.  Birth of the Death
 to Kiwi Brigade (D2KB).

 1975: Kiwi scientists begin first serious researches into the nature of
 citrus fruit peels.  Anti-kiwi forces triumph in Viet Nam.

 1982: U.S./Soviet relations reach a peak of hostility, as conservative
 Kiwi politician Ronald Reagan takes a more and more aggressive stance
 against the increasingly hard-line D2KB Soviet Premeire.  War is only
 averted when D2KB Mjr. John Hinkley shoots Reagan, killing him and two
 members of his cabinet.  The D2KB claims the assassination was executed
 without D2KB approval.

 1996: The First Kiwi Jihad erupts across the planet, as more than 100
 million people are killed and 687,000 acres of kiwi orchards destroyed in
 a limited exchange of nuclear weapons.  The U.S. breaks up into several
 Kiwi Free States.  The Soviet Union is forced into a similar break up for
 economic reasons, as satellite nations attempt to hold together their
 crumbling economies.  Overall however, the D2KB is victorious, and is
 ascendant in Earth politics for more than 50 years.

 2020: Mars is colonized by D2KB Forces.  Among the Fundamental
 Declarations of the Martian Colonies: "Freedom from Kiwi Tyranny."

 2058: The Second Kiwi Jihad takes place with a massive Kiwi strike through
 dozens of D2KB resistance cells and provinces.  New kiwi orchards are
 established in the tropical and temperate zones that had been D2KB
 strongholds.  Many in the D2KB are forced to flee into space to avoid
 being tried in "Kiwi courts" -- show trials where summary justice is
 dispensed, with punishments ranging from paper-cuts then filled with kiwi
 juice for minor offenses to full immersion and drowning in kiwi juice for
 capital crimes.  D2KB regard the punishments as cruel and unusual.

 2063: Zephram Cochrane, citizen of the Montana Kiwi Free State but D2KB
 sympathizer, invents the warp drive.  Only hours later, he establishes
 first contact with the Vulcans.  Cochrane later formally joins the D2KB.

 2064: Vulcan officially joins the D2KB, one Vulcan ambassador telling a
 Kiwi representative "to worship a fruit... is not logical" before
 breaking off talks.  The Kiwi forces are soon dealt another blow when
 Alpha Centauri also joins the D2KB.

 2065: In a daring raid, Kiwi forces kidnap Cochrane and steal plans for a
 second-generation warp drive.  Kiwi forces are soon building their own
 ships and "spreading the Divine Kiwi through the stars," establishing
 their own colonies, and persuading Andor to join their fight against the
 D2KB.

 2068: Cochrane escapes from the Kiwi forces aboard his own warp ship.  He
 disappears, and is never heard from again.

 2081: Vulcan breaks ties with the D2KB, declaring itself neutral in the
 fighting.  Among their comments: "to hate a fruit with such intensity is
 not logical, either."  Many D2KB leaders darkly remark "If you're not part
 of the solution, you're part of the Kiwi," but no actions are taken
 against Vulcan, and the planet remains neutral to this day.

 2094: Kiwi scientists make a breakthrough, discovering a way to modify
 citrus fruit peels to form super-strong polymers and alloys.  Kiwi ships
 are soon being built almost literally from the modified peels, becoming
 almost impervious to D2KB weapons for a time.  The first citrus bolt
 weapons also enter the Kiwi inventory during this time.  With a new fleet
 of ships, the Kiwi forces soon have D2KB on the defensive.

 2112: A disastrous first contact with the Klingon Empire causes the Kiwi
 and D2KB forces to join forces for one of only two times in history, as
 the chief Klingon negotiator makes a faux pas of the ages by remarking:
 "There is no honor in fighting over a fruit!"  Klingon forces are routed
 from space by Kiwi/D2KB combined armadas over the next several years, and
 today are a beaten, broken people.  To this day, the Klingons are still
 unsure what all the fuss is about.

 2136: The first citrus disintegrators enter the D2KB weapons inventory
 during this time.  Battles over the next several years all but destroy the
 Kiwi Rigel colonies and their precious supply of dilithium.  Kiwi forces
 turn to their scientists, who create the so-called "tang drive."  By
 drawing the tanginess from the kiwi, their ships are able to fold space
 (as normal kiwi juice would fold a person's tongue) to cross vast
 distances quickly through a sort of hyperspace.  D2KB forces hold the
 remainder of the usuable dilithium, and develop a next-generation warp
 drive.

 2161: The Alliance of Kiwi Planets is formed, when the green ships of the
 Kiwi first encounter the green ships of the Romulan Star Empire.  An
 alliance is formed, with Earth, Romulus, Remus, Tellarite, and Andor being
 charter members.  Its motto: "To seek out strange new worlds, to convert
 them to the ways of the Divine Fruit, and if they will not convert, to
 kill them and plant Kiwi trees over their graves."

 2200: The Alpha quadrant enjoys a period of almost peaceful expansion, as
 the Kiwi and D2KB forces attempt to undermine each other politically, and
 their memberships rise.  Soon, however, the two sides' hatred for each
 other is again inflamed, and war resumes.

 2269: The Organians attempt to moderate the D2KB/Kiwi conflict, declaring:
 "Your two sides are more alike than you know."  D2KB and Kiwi forces alike
 are horrified, and working together, manage to obliterate the Organian
 home world.  The Organians flee, and are not heard from again.

 2271: D2KB scientists Richard Daystrom invents the M-5 computer.  D2KB
 forces are delighted, and soon space is filled with crewless M-5 D2KB
 destroyers.  Their mission: "To seek out the Kiwi wherever it may hide,
 and to sterlize the Kiwi imperfection from the Galaxy."  Soon, no ship or
 planet that carries kiwi or is capable of their manufacture is safe from
 the M-5 ships.

 2298: The D2KB forces gain a significant ally, as the Cardassian Union
 joins the fight against the Kiwi.  Bajor soon joins the Alliance, and with
 their help, in the words of the AKP President, "these fruit-loving people
 have managed to throw off the yoke of D2KB oppression, and join the
 worshipers of the Divine Fruit everywhere."

 2317: The Gorn Empire and Tholian Assemblage join the growing ranks of
 Neutral planets and governments.  At this time, the approximate ratio of
 D2KB to Kiwi forces is 35% to 45%, with 20% neutral, a ratio that is also
 consistent with the present day.

 2366: The Ferengi Alliance begins trading with both sides.  Occasionaly
 Ferengi kiwi-fruit traders are found assassinated, D2KB calling cards on
 their bodies, but business in both kiwi and citrus disintegrators
 continues, with the Ferengi raking in an enormous profit.  Rule of
 Acquisition #248 is written: "Never underestimate the human passion for
 the ridiculous... but don't let it keep you from profit, either."

 2372: During a battle bewteen Kiwi and D2KB forces, a freak spatial
 anomaly swallows several ships, including the K.B.S. Andromeda and the
 Kiwi ships A.K.S. Lexington and A.K.S. Republic.  It is theorized that
 the ships may have been thrown into a parallel universe.

 2373: U.S.S. Coronado returns to find the timeline significantly altered
 from the histories they left...
