 Ship's time, 0430.

Captain Brian Aldur roamed the corridors of deck 6, forward. Over his
head, the glimmering blue-white net of the atmospheric containment field
and the open stars provided the only illumination. Next to and above him,
the bulkhead had been cleanly sliced open, and exposed to space.
Thankfully, noone had been in this section when the Borg cutting beam had
done its horrifying work -- the evacuation of the upper decks in
preparation for the firing of the Coronado's Lance had seen to that.

Ship's casualties had been miraculously light: only a handful of deaths,
and no assimilations... the latter mostly due to Lt. DuLac's use of a Borg
neuroprocessor to immobilize the Borg drones only seconds after they had
come aboard. Technically, it had been a violation of orders... but given
the fact that the insane gamble had worked, Aldur was inclined to forgive
and forget. Suddenly, he chuckled, wondering if Commander Silver was
going to see things the same way.

The ship... Aldur sighed. The ship hadn't gotten off nearly so lucky.
They had already been docked at Earth Station McKinley for a week, and
were likely to be here for at least two more. The good news was that
Starfleet had decided to accelerate the Coro's refitting schedule -- four
new holographic systems were being installed, including Emergency Medical,
Engineering, and Security holograms and an external holographic defense
system. The latter was impressive technology: it allowed the ship to
"spoof" attackers by hiding the true location of the Coronado or by
projecting phantom images. There was still discussion in Federation
Council circles about its acceptability given the Treaty of Algeron. Most
of the crew were taking advantage of the break to take extended leave.

However, Aldur had a different sort of hologram in mind for today. He
entered Holodeck 1 and had a long talk with the ship's computer. An hour
 later, he was ready.

 "Computer... energize," he said.
