[19:03] Stardate 240404.12: "Ignorance is Bliss", Part 2, by Jester. [19:03] SUMMARY: The universe seems a much friendlier place when you know it isn't broken. [19:03] Coronado continues to hold her position in the Torias system, guarding the asteroid-starship Xanadu and seeing to her own hurts: deck 8 of the frigate has been infected with the tar na zee after an engagement with subverted Xur fighters. As a result, our starship is not in any condition to leave the system. [19:03] In the meantime, the alliance with the Pfhor Collective and their allies in this system appears to be steady enough: they have returned to their normal business and are ignoring us for the most part. Despite the presence of Xanadu in this system, there have also been no further attacks here by the Xur. [19:04] We therefore have time to lick our wounds and attempt to reclaim deck 8 from the tar na zee before the next crisis looms. There are a number of theories regarding how to eradicate the infection. In the meantime, the Admiral has been briefing his staff about our Nexus visitors and their news... [19:04] Briefing complete. [19:04] ack [19:04] ack [19:04] * CRXO_Tal acknowledges with a crisp salute. [19:04] ack [19:04] ack [19:04] ack [19:04] ackety ack [19:04] ack [19:04] ack [19:04] ack [19:04] ack [19:04] ack [19:04] ack [19:04] ack [19:05] As I pointed out last week, the plan to transport off the infection was mostly successful, mostly by reducing the amount being transported to tiny amounts in each pass. Otherwise, the infection had a nasty habit of trying to "ride the beam" back to the emitter. [19:06] What remains is for actual people to sweep deck 8 and make sure nothing was missed. Commodore, be sure to ask for volunteers for this. ;) [19:06] About a week has passed IC since last week's sim. Any questions? [19:06] ::raises:: [19:06] ::makes sure to be off Coro, a long ways THATAWAY! ::runs about a few hundred million light years:: [19:07] Commander? [19:07] Engineering where do we stand? [19:07] So just to clarify...the formerly affected areas of Deck 8 have now all be gutted...like the inside of a Passenger jet with no seats, no carpets, no overhead bins...just bare bones, right? [19:07] ::raises:: [19:07] Barring volunteers from other departments, I'd be expecting the Engineers to take the lead on the deck 8 inspection. [19:07] whoops wrong edit box [19:07] Last week you reported two weeks to repair, Mr. Farley. I trust you weren't lying to me. [19:07] ;() [19:07] ;) [19:07] Yep, that's exacly correct, Commodore. The rest of you, shhhh. ;) [19:08] Also, last week, the Admiral asked that a number of people be assigned to the four operational Jjaro fighters currently in Alexandria. [19:08] Me lye never. How dare you say I would. ::smiles:: [19:08] Did you want to pick a half-dozen people for that assignment, General Ironside? [19:08] I believe Lieutenants Somansky and Dillon can assign two others to assist them in said matter, Admiral. [19:09] Unless they do not wish to partake in the joyrides, in which case I'll take open volunteers. [19:09] ::nods:: Very well. For the record, these fighters do carry a modified form of the Whitestone logo on them: instead of a single diamond, it's a diamond clutched in the stem of a rose. [19:09] Also for the record, the fighters are designated Nightmare class, and the class logo appears to be a black horse, venting fire from its hoofs and nostrils. [19:10] Oh, I have got to get me one of those... [19:10] ::blinks:: [19:10] The language on the controls, sadly, are in an unfamiliar language, so a linguist would be greatly helpful. [19:32] X4> Security reasons. What if the Jart were able to obtain a Partial and their information? [19:33] Make Engineering really work for once... ::grins:: [19:33] ::takes the padd from Prescot, tossing her shirt, vest, and toolkit onto her seat:: Yes, Captain... I'll inform engineering at once. [19:33] X4 CIC> ::blinks:: Make a hell of a soldier. [19:33] X4> ::frowns:: Though they were created before the Jjaro knew of the Jart... [19:33] X2> ::stands back and watches Marney look over the panel:: [19:33] E> ::grabs both of his teams and heads for Deck 8:: [19:33] ::frowns as she reads over the data on the padd, absorbing the data about the Nightmares as she does so:: [19:34] X2>::blinks:: Did any of you notice that? Marney? Amy? [19:34] Good maybe you can get them to listen. [19:34] X4 CIC> So we assume. ::shakes his head:: Suddenly, I'm seeing a whole field, a whole army of these things. Send them into battle, and who cares if they don't come back? [19:34] ::nods at Canterbury:: Red Alert! Bring the weapons systems online... [19:34] X4> Before the Jart invaded. They may have been aware of them prior to the invasion. [19:34] =.\ction= The automatic klaxon sounds as Coronado's alert status changes to red . [19:34] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:34] X2> ::turns to Somansky:: Notice what? [19:34] X4CIC> I would think that we could start by going over Xanadu's past travels, and the locations of previous teras [19:34] X2>Marney>::turns back at shake his head:: What? [19:34] E> +taps+ Farley to Daren [19:34] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:34] +taps+ Engineering, from Bridge. Make everything work right, or else we'll be dining on your ashes tonight. Tal out. [19:34] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:34] ::seeing them busy, slides in behind the helm and begins running the normal red alert checks on all propulsion systems and shipwide resources:: [19:34] X4> ::types up a request for the Taeran representative:: [19:34] ::goes back to the padd, fascinated by what she's seeing:: [19:34] Nothing too fancy Commander...aim your weapons at the sun if you'd like to test your targeting scanners... [19:34] E> ::run to Farley:: What now? do we proceed or stay available for other repairs? [19:35] +taps+ Daren here! [19:35] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:35] X4> I would hope that our anscestors would not create such an army of disposable soldiers. ::gruffly:: [19:35] X2>::points:: The cockpit. It molded to me and then re- adjusted to its default when I got out. [19:35] 7H> ::watches as the holowaitress flickers and vanishes and goes back to his PADDwork:: [19:35] X2> ::looks inside at the cockpit and then back at Somansky:: Never did it with me. [19:35] E> +taps+ Is this a test alert. Because if it is we don't have time for this! [19:35] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:35] X2>Marney>::shakes head:: I didn't see in it. [19:35] We have a couple meteoroids which are just begging to be vaporised, sir. ::diverts the already-requisitioned power into the phaser emitters and charges them:: [19:35] X4CIC> That's a good place to start. I was also thinking we should investigate Xanadu's sensors to see if we can adapt them to be more sensitive in sensing a tear the instat it forms within a prescribed area. A discussion with Alicia might be in order as well. [19:35] X4 CIC> It sounds all too efficient... all too much like them, actually. Think about it -- Varani once had to order a man to make a repair on a damaged warp reactor. It was a death sentence. [19:36] X2>::shrugs:: I don't know, I didn't notice it until now. [19:36] X4 CIC> Varani would have jumped at the chance to send one of these... partials... instead. [19:36] E> Sky go ahead with you work. [19:36] +taps+ We're intiating a class one weapons test, Mr. Farley...you have your orders I believe. [19:36] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:36] X2>::motions to Marney:: Get in. . .::looks at Amy:: Watch. [19:36] X4> ::frowns:: Desparate times call for desparate measures? [19:36] E> ::nods and heads out with his teams:: [19:36] E> +taps+ Forward weapons are offline! [19:36] X2> ::watches as Marney gets in the cockpit:: [19:36] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:36] +com+ Batallion Command to Somansky and Dillon, any new developments? [19:36] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:37] X4 CIC> We have good reason to suspect that the Jjaro were short of manpower, much the same as the Churchill descendants were. [19:37] ::glances from the padd to Prescot and back again:: These are the Jjaro fighters we recently recovered, Colonel? [19:37] X4> Did they display any sign of the ability to make individual decisions? To adapt to changing stimulus? [19:37] :;nods at Canterbury:: Very well...test all systems except False Matter torpedoes. We just don't have enough of those left to spare should the Xur show up again... [19:37] ::nods:: Yes ma`am. [19:37] X2>Marney>::doubletakes at Somansky as he sits down and the cockpit instantly molds to his body:: [19:37] X2> +COM+ Maybe sir, just a second. [19:37] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:37] X4 CIC> ::turns and looks fully at the General:: If they hadn't told us right at the outset that they were "partials," I don't think we would have known. [19:37] X2>+com+ Stand by, sir. [19:37] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:37] X4CIC> ::Interjecting:: It seems to me that these "partials" would make excellent workers [19:37] *> Oh crap +taps+ Gannsen to Farley [19:37] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:37] +com+ Standing by... ::waits for the report [19:37] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:37] X2>::points:: See? Its molding to his form. [19:37] E> +taps+ Go ahead [19:37] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:38] ::frowns again and then turns to D'rall:: Commander D'rall, how are our shuttles? [19:38] X2>Marney>::shakes head:: I didn't notice anything. [19:38] X4> ::twitches the edge of his mouth slightly:: Is their nature apparent from a passive scan? [19:38] ::nods, his left hand sliding over the left monitor and tapping targets as the computer computes a firing pattern:: Shields look perfect, phaser emitters seem a little sluggish on the recharge, but given the redirected power, that's not unreasonable. [19:38] ::moves on to checking the flight sensors, checking calibration to external data feeds:: I just brought our replacement onboard. She's stowed down in the shuttlebay, though Brett's going to refuel her sometime later today to top off the tanks. [19:38] X2> ::watches the cockpit:: [19:39] X4 CIC> They're doing an autopsy on them right now, and I don't think it's apparent yet. [19:39] +taps+ deck 8 is in bad shape sir; its gonna take us a couple days to figure out where to start [19:39] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:39] =.\ction= Ship's condition is currently: Red Alert . [19:39] X2>+com+ The cockpit seems to mold into the pilots form when they enter. [19:39] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:39] E> +Taps+ Just start where you are and work your way around the best you can. [19:39] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:39] ::faces Daren:: Captain, permission to disembark? [19:39] 7H> ::starts transferring more data to the other PADD and looks up a bit surprised when red alert sounds:: Ohoh...more trouble? [19:39] E> +taps+ Aye Sir Gannsen out [19:39] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:39] X4> ::crosses his arms:: If they can alter the time period for which these Partials remain active...there could be some among us now. [19:39] X2>+com+ Its instantanous too, you don't notice it when you sit down in there, but its noticable from out here. [19:39] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:40] X4CIC> Nothing impresses me immediately. ::Savant conjured up a starmap and highlighted the tear points:: they seem fairly well distributed. [19:40] ::over her shoulder to Tal:: If you're thinking of going anywhere, take Diana. The naming ceremony for the new shuttle is later this afternoon. ::grin:: [19:40] +com+ It molds to your form? can you alter its form with thoughts? Like have it create a stick for you to pilot with? [19:40] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:40] ::arches an eyebrow:: And what, praytell, shall she be named? [19:40] ::turns to Tal, pulling his attention from the weapons test:: Got a hot date or something? [19:41] ::blinks:: Stand by. [19:41] X4CIC> ::nods:: I was hoping we could establish a pattern of some sort. Perhaps anticipate where the next one will occur based on that pattern. [19:41] ::hands Daren the padd:: I'd like to take a look at the Jjaro's nightmares, actually, sir. [19:41] ::spins power through phaser arcs, testing the emitter transfer:: Yeah, the recharge seems a little sluggish... the computer timed it at around 73.4% of normal. [19:41] *> ::disperses his teams to start rebuilding everything in sight; walks to what was once a computer control panel and takes it off for a look inside:: [19:41] 7H> ::stands and gathers his PADDs, pushes in his chair, and walks to the doors:: ((Better get to the bridge.)) [19:41] ::smile:: Well... you'll just have to be at the ceremony to find out. It is an appropriate name though. [19:41] Err. . .::hits the com button this time::+com+ Stand by. [19:41] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:41] D8> ::arrive to the foward section of deck 8:: Ok, team one, you'll be going this way..::shows on the padd he has the way so he can have both team meet again and have a big idea of what to do:: Team 2, you'll go that other way. I'll take the way there.. We will all meet there ::point again:: add everything to your padds.. then we make the possible repair. Now go. ::head to his way:: [19:41] X4CIC> I'll overlay radiational data and nearby stellar phenomenon. [19:41] X2> ::watches Somansky intently:: [19:41] X4 CIC> ::blinks:: I suppose you're right, but what would be the point? [19:42] X4 CIC> I suppose... Unless they didn't trust us not to capture or kill their spies. [19:42] ::enters an attack pattern and drifts over the firing button:: [19:42] X4> If they're clones, they could replace people in key positions. Alter outcomes indirectly rather than interfering directly. We've seen it before. [19:43] ::ignores D'rall for the time being while Daren looks over the padd that she had given him:: [19:43] *> ::heads for the lift, reaches it, and presses the call button:: [19:43] ::accepts the PADD:: I've done some reading about them. Take someone with you from the Engineering staff..they'll certainly be thrilled to have someone removed at such a stressful time. [19:43] X2>+com+ I don't know, it might be thought provoked, but I'm not totally sure yet. [19:43] E> ::heads to the bridge:: [19:43] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:43] Get me a full engineering and tactical work up... [19:43] Perhaps we could put Ms. Oswald to good use. [19:43] X4CIC> ::checks over the display with the data overlayed on top of it:: I don't see a pattern here. Do you? [19:43] E> ::enters TL:: Bridge [19:43] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:43] X4> Though perhaps not from the Jjaro....the...Adversaries...do seem to be linked to Xanadu in some fashion. Perhaps the Jjaro had good teachers... [19:43] X4> ::Savant sighed and leaned back:: I don't see anything. I'm asking Alicia if she cna help us. [19:44] ::shakes her head a bit at Tal and turns back to the helm, finishing the sensor checks and moving on to deflector control:: [19:44] =.\ction= Ship's condition is currently: Red Alert . [19:44] X2>Marney>::intently labeling the controls in English:: [19:44] D8> ::list all "working" system he can find, and list those repairable, then those destroyed...:: Man... [19:44] +com+ Continue your testing along those lines Lieutenant. I want to know if we can fly those things or get it to talk at us in the either Federation Standard or the King's Language if need be. [19:44] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:44] Firing phasers at the local meteroids. ::fires all phasers:: [19:44] =.\ction= Multiple phaser beams from both the primary and secondary batteries fire, hammering the target! [19:44] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:44] If she has no objections, sure. But remember she's a civilan these days...we can't exactly order her anywhere... [19:44] X2>+com+ Its drive system is odd too. It might be gravational or magnetic. [19:44] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:44] X4CIC> Good. She's been chasing these things for a long time. She's got to have some input we'd find helpful. [19:45] X2>+com+ Aye sir. [19:45] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:45] ::nods and enters the nearest TL:: [19:45] TL> ::enters the bridge:: [19:45] X4CIC> Ahah. Thank you Alicia, you're such a help. [19:45] ::looks back to Canterbury:: How'd we do? [19:45] ::looks as Tal leaves and nods at her:: [19:45] TL> Main shuttlebay. +taps+ Zunite Oswald, from Commander Tal. [19:45] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:45] X2>::steps out and moves to the next fighter:: [19:45] +taps+ Shuttlebay, D'rall. Have the Diana prepped for launch for Commander Tal. Out. [19:45] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:46] ::looks for Daren:: [19:46] TL> ::steps inside and leans against the wall, watching as the door closes:: Bridge! ::continues to read one of the PADDs as he's whisked away:: [19:46] X4CIC> Ninety days. We have ninety days. [19:46] *>::press the com button on her console:: Good day Tal, how can I help you? [19:46] X4CIC> Ninety days until what? [19:46] X2>::looks at Dillon:: Ok, I'll take this fighter, you take the next one Marney finishes. [19:46] X4CIC> The next tear. [19:46] X4CIC> And how does she know that? [19:46] X4> It can be predicted with that amount of accuracy? [19:46] ::tests deflector control by using it via flight protocols to target concentrations of dust and fragments from the meteoroids targetted by tactical:: [19:46] X4> ...can she predict the destruction of M64? [19:46] TL> +taps+ I was wondering if you would like to join me on an investegatory expedition. [19:46] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:47] ::moves up to Darens position:: [19:47] +com+ Gravational? Interesting, continue your anaylsis and report to me as soon as you find something new [19:47] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:47] ::smiles:: Precision strike. ::continues smiling, until his console begins lighting up:: Whoops. [19:47] *>+taps+ investigating what exactly? [19:47] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:47] X4 CIC> ::drums his fingers on the holotable, listening and thinking:: [19:47] X4CIC> ::Savant waved her hands in an animated fashion as she replied to Bentall:: Nexus Hocus Pocus ::Then turns to Bentall, her amused grin dropping aside briefly:: I haven't asked her to. [19:47] D8> ::arrive near the rendez-vous point with both teams.. having quite a long list of repair..:: [19:47] ::raises an eyebrow:: Whooops?! [19:48] Sir. [19:48] X2>::motions to Dex, who was quietly taking readings:: You take readings and Observer notes from here. [19:48] X4> ...ask her. [19:48] X4CIC> We'll have a liberator wraith ready by that time at least. [19:48] X4 CIC> Please. [19:48] X4CIC> Nexus Hocus Pocus? That all she will tell us? This is getting frustrating. We need to get her to open up to us more. [19:48] X4 CIC> ::nods:: I'd expect us to have four or five available if needed by that time. [19:48] ::turns:: Just a moment Mr. Farley. My Tactical Officer was just explaining to me his definition of...'whoops'. [19:48] ::steps onto the bridge and heads for Daren, stops in front of him and holds out one of the PADDs:: My report sir. [19:48] *> ::exits the TL and heads down the corridor towards the shuttlebay:: +taps+ A quartet of Jjaro craft. Thus far they have defied all attempts to understand them. [19:48] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:49] =.\ction= Ship's condition is currently: Red Alert . [19:49] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:49] X4CIC> Well, that's a terribly depressing statistic. [19:50] ::looks at tactical:: [19:50] X4CIC> ::Savant screwed her mouth to one side in something of an amusing-looking grimace:: After the next rift in ninety days, the next will form in sixty.. then fourty... then fifteen... then five... then two. At that point, Xanadu won't be able to keep up with the tears. [19:50] X2> ::watches Somansky work and looks over the panel:: [19:50] *>::starts saving her work and closing her lab down:: [19:50] X4CIC> Based on that, I give us somewhere around 150 days. [19:50] ::nods and moves off to his station, tucks the rest of the PADDs away and logs in:: [19:50] *> ::smiles thinnly:: +taps+ None of which I am aware, Zunite. Except, of course, the chance of getting shot that always comes when one associates with Starfleet Marines. [19:50] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:50] ::turns to Farley:: I believe you were next? [19:50] X4> ::blinks once or twice, then looks at the Admiral:: [19:51] ::palms a button as a slight-whining noise is heard, then breathes out:: Oh, thank God. [19:51] *>+taps+ I'm game then... [19:51] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:51] X4CIC> So in other words we better solve this problem asap. ::frowns:: Why is Alicia so hesitant to share all her knowledge with us? Anything she tells us could allow us to figure out how to put an end to the tears. [19:51] <> [19:51] X2>::takes a seat in the fighter and starts reading off the now tagged controls:: [19:51] X5 CIC> 150 days until... what? Until M64 is ripped apart? That can't be right. [19:52] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:52] X4CIC> ::Savant looked to the sky as if looking up at the Almighty:: The Nexus, in its wisdom, deigns to not allow us that information. [19:52] *>::heads for the shuttlebay:: [19:52] X4CIC> Oh, no, not at all, Admiral. That's when the process will most likely be irreversible. [19:52] X2>::motions to Dillon:: Go ahead into the fighter Marney just finished, Amy. Lets take these things for a ride. [19:52] X4> ::uncrosses his arms and takes a step back from the holotable, something in the room suddenly seeming odd, but unable to put his finger on it:: [19:52] =.\ction= Canterbury's odd use of the console ends up lanching a Quantum torpedo from the forward tubes... [19:52] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:52] X4CIC> The only conclusion I can reach from that response is they want the galaxy to tear itself apart. It doesn't make any sense! [19:52] X4> ::looks up:: The destruction of Xanadu is a solution, is it not? [19:53] ::sees the view screen:: What the hell have you done! [19:53] X4 CIC> ::pauses as his eyes rest on a form leaning against a wall off to the side of the CIC...watching him and Kor:: ...Admiral. [19:53] Sorry, Captain. [19:56] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:56] E> +taps+ Hmmm we are in a mess at the moment but we are doing pretty good I estimate we will be able to repair around 60% of the area within a week but thats if I can find the major componets that I need [19:56] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:57] I'm glad your little weapons test was a success, Lieutenant....let's stand down from alert status and put all of that behind us. [20:27] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:28] X4 CIC> ::crosses his arms again:: Our knowledge of the Fourth Chamber isn't strong enough. We're dealing only with vague theories and half-truths. [20:28] <[CRXO_Tal]> Dia> +com+ Copy that, Nightmare One. Transmit coordinates. [20:28] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:28] X4CIC> And metaphors. I so detest metaphors... as much as I am one. [20:28] X4 CIC> Then we find the people who have more information. Any word on boojum sightings? [20:28] X4CIC> Perhaps we ought to recall Tuberider and go down there ourselves. [20:28] X4 CIC> We need to speak with The Nexus. We cannot do this alone. Not with the time remaining. [20:29] X4 CIC> ::shakes his head at the Admiral:: Nothing. We've been broadcasting for a week, both within and outside of Xanadu. [20:29] X4> There are many aspects about Xanadu that are unlike anything we've ever encountered before: the catapult, the enormous concentration of omega particles, the generation of singularities, the entirety of No Man's Land which distorts and defies all properties of normal space-time. [20:29] X4 CIC> We're sitting in a rock with someone who is a vast source if vital information but who refuses to share it with us. [20:29] X2>::slumps his shoulders and walks back over to the fighter and transmits the coordinates to the Alexandria spaceport::+com+ Transmitted. [20:29] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:29] ::reaches over and picks up his cup, sips, and replaces it before starting to work again, his fingers nibbly tapping his console as a musician plays a keyboard:: [20:29] X4CIC> There haven't been any Boojum sightings since we met Olmy some time ago. [20:29] X2>::looks to Dex and Amy:: Where else would we be on the ground at? ::smirks:: [20:29] X4CIC> ::Savant raised a finger:: Now, don't be hard on Alicia. She works very hard to give us everything she can. It's the Nexus that limits her. [20:30] X4> ::looks at Savant:: That may imply an evacuation has taken place. [20:30] X4 CIC> We brought him here with our meddling in the Third and Fourth Chambers. Perhaps we can again through that fashion. [20:30] <[CRXO_Tal]> Dia> If you wish to inform your father what we are doing here, now would be the best time, I think. ::takes the shuttle "up" and around the singularities as she makes for the appropriate spaceport:: [20:30] X4 CIC> ::turns back to the Admiral:: The probability cluster the probe from Tuberider went through. Where did it lead? [20:30] Dia>nah... quite alright... I'm happy to be out and about... [20:30] X2> ::smiles and shrugs:: [20:30] X4CIC> I'd rather not anger the NExus any more than we probably already have. [20:31] X4 CIC> ::shuts down his holotable and taps into it, reactivating it:: [20:31] X4CIC> She's got just as much to loose as the rest of us Savant. Eventually she'll have to make a choice or suffer the same fate as the rest of us whatever that ends up being. [20:31] ::over her shoulder:: Back on holding course and speed, Cap'n. [20:31] *>::taps the consol to bring it back to life:: [20:31] X4> ::glances at Savant:: I think we have a reason to be angry with them, now. Very homey. [20:32] X4 CIC> Don't be too angry. I got the distinct impression from the partials that the Nexus didn't buy into this "worst case scenario" theory. They might not even be aware of what's occuring. [20:32] ::sees a red light blinking and hits the receive button, reads quickly and transfers the message to Daren, then stares at his console, waiting for something else to come through:: [20:32] X4 CIC> This is where the Partials came from? [20:33] X4 CIC> They were either situated there in stasis or placed themselves in stasis there of their own free will. Doctor Lopez is unable to explain this to me in words of less than four syllables ::smiles at the irony:: but apparently this particular Gate is only available under a set of conditions "programmed" into the probability cluster surrounding it. [20:33] <[CRXO_Tal]> Dia> ::sets the shuttle down without so much as a bump or disturbing any of the dust on the pad:: [20:33] X4CIC> ::shrugs:: Somehow I believe she'll end up being the key to this whole situation. [20:34] * [CRXO_Tal] is now known as Aggie [20:34] X4 CIC> If the Nexus won't respond to us, we're going to have to go to them. This appears to best place to look for clues. [20:34] X4 CIC> ::indicating the planet:: [20:34] ::nods:: Of course. [20:34] X4 CIC> ::pulls back the holographic image to show the Gate:: That's what the probability clusters are: they not only represent the address of the target, but the conditions that will bring the target into availability. ::smiles crookedly:: That's as much as I've gotten out of her theories so far, anyway. [20:34] Dia> ::secures the shuttle and nods to Oswald:: We are clear to disembark. [20:34] X4CIC> ::she smiled wistfully:: Doctor Lopez reminds me of my mother in a way. [20:34] ::crouches down, looking at the fighter:: [20:35] X4 CIC> So the gates lead through both time and space, then. [20:35] X2> ::looks at Somansky:: What you looking for? [20:35] X4 CIC> ::nods at Ironside:: That much is certain. [20:35] Dia>::gets up from her seat:: awesome.. let the fun begin... [20:36] ::heads aft towards the turbolift:: [20:36] X4CIC> Are we leaving, then? [20:36] X2>::looks up at Amy:: Just. . .::gets closer to the fighter:: Come here real quick. [20:36] Dia> ::grabs a computer service kit and heads for the exit:: [20:36] X4 CIC> ::lets out a breath through his nose:: It's going to be like finding a needle in a stack of needles... [20:36] ::watches Maiko leaving and smiles slightly:: [20:36] ::crosses his legs in the Command Chair, continuing to go over repair-time estimates for the computer pathways on Deck 8. [20:36] X4> At this point, I'm less interested in "why" and more interested in when we're going to go down the Way ourselves and see for ourselves. [20:36] X4 CIC> ::nods:: Our place is here, coordinating the search. But tell the Tuberider's crew to get her ready for departure. [20:36] TL> ::enters turbolift:: Shuttlebay. [20:36] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:37] Dia> ::taps the door controls and steps out into the "natural" light of Alexandria's singularities:: [20:37] X2> ::kneels down beside him:: What? [20:37] X4CIC> Aye, Admiral. . . They seem happy to get underway. [20:37] X4 CIC> ::turns to Drexler:: I'm as tempted as you are, Captain, but that isn't our place. [20:37] X2> Look at the skin, look at how complex it is. [20:37] Dia>::follows Tal out:: [20:37] X4> As long as someone is doing it, I'm fine. [20:37] X4CIC> What I'd like to know is when our "friend" will decide our time is up and pull the plug on us? [20:37] X4 CIC> ::nods:: Our job is to put the pieces of the puzzle together, not go out looking for pieces. We can only hope that we get them put together in time. [20:38] X2>This is some of the most complex stuff I've ever seen. [20:38] X4CIC> Well, if i'm a prophet, and he said that I was, then we have one hundred and fifty days. [20:38] *> ::exits the turbolift and walks down the connecting hall:: [20:38] ::picks up his cup and drains it, then quietly makes his way around the bridge again, collecting the empties and returning them to the replicator:: [20:38] X4 CIC> ::turns to Bentall:: In the meantime, Captain, if you can't give me certainties about tear locations, I'll take your best guesses. If I have to, I'll send out every ship in Whitestone looking for clues. [20:38] X2> ::Sees what Somansky sees:: Wow. I've never seen something this complex. [20:38] X4 CIC> And ninety before we have to fend off the Xur again... [20:39] SB> ::enters the shuttlebay, heading over towards a wall locker near the maintenance equipment:: [20:39] X2> ::strides purposefully across the tarmac, the light giving a slight golden sheen to her bare arms and shoulders, her Starfleet tank- tee blowing loosely in the light breeze:: [20:39] X4 CIC> ::nods:: That's the deadline. 90 days. If we can't put a stop to this then, the next tear is irrelevant. The Xur will probably crush our next effort. I've a feeling they won't give us time to try it four or five more times. We've had two chances already. [20:39] X4CIC> ::nods:: Not much time. Not much time at all. ::nods:: I'll do my best Admiral. He did give us another clue though. For what ever reason he thinks I can see the path due to my unique past. I'm going to have to give that some serious though and see if I can figure out what he meant. [20:39] X2> Lieutenants Somansky and Dillon? ::glances around:: [20:39] X4 CIC> ::nods, suddenly looking troubled:: Do it. [20:40] X2>::pops his head up from the other side of the fighter:: Right over here, Commander. [20:40] X2> ::looks to see who is calling:: [20:40] X4 CIC> ::rubs his chin again, mouthing something to himself:: [20:41] ::pulls out a black container and then replicates the appropriate brush she needs:: [20:41] X4CIC> ::nods:: I'm going to have to pay a visit to Coronado and have a look at that blasted device soon as well. It may hold a clue. [20:41] X4CIC> ::Savant sat back a little, the image of confidence despite the situation:: Would you like me to continue locating the next tear then, Admiral, if it really is irrelevant? [20:41] X2> ::nods to the two Marine pilots:: I'm Commander Velorna Tal, this is Com - Ms. Zunite Oswald. We're here from Coronado. I know we've served together, but I don't think I've had the pleasure of actually meeting either of your formally. [20:42] ::returns to his console, notices no messages have come through yet, so he looks up at the holotank for a while, quietly watching the activity shown there:: [20:42] X4CIC> I think we should keep looking Savant. It'll be the showdown I think. One way or the other. [20:42] X4 CIC> ::gives Savant a somewhat frustrated look:: The tear after the one in 90 days, Captain. I'll thank you not to correct my grammar when the fate of the galaxy is at stake. [20:42] x2>::waves to the people:: [20:42] X4 CIC> ::shakes hit off, laughing softly to himself, then continues in a voice both lighter and quieter:: Any other time, however, is permitted. [20:42] X2> Commander Tal, Ms. Oswald. Lieutenant Amy Dillon. It's a pleasure meeting you. [20:42] ::shakes:: No we haven't. It's a pleasure. Commander, Ms. ::holds out the PADD:: [20:43] SB> ::heads over to the new shuttle and pops open the top of the container, dipping the brush in it then gently running it along the sides to remove most of the excess:: [20:43] X4CIC> ::Savant nodded her head and said nothing; lack of clarity or no, she wasn't one to argue when the admiral was angry:: [20:43] X2> This is what we've compiled so far. [20:43] ::nods and looks up at the fighters:: Interesting design. Is that the Whitestone Industries logo there? [20:43] X4 CIC> ::opens his mouth to correct the Admiral - the universe being at stake, after all, not just the galaxy - but thinks better of it:: [20:44] X4 CIC> Savant, if Alicia was allowed to tell us when the next one would occur can she give us a clue or hint of the general area? System even? [20:44] X4> ::frowns to himself, and stands up:: [20:44] X4 CIC> Does she even know? ::takes a sip from his tea cup and grimaces when he realizes it's cold:: [20:45] ::choosing the appropriate spot below the pilot side window at the break in the pennant, she begins to carefully paint on the hull of the shuttle:: [20:45] X4CIC> If she knew, and were allowed to, yes, she'd tell us. You odn't seem to understand that she *likes* us. [20:45] E>::hmms again:: [20:45] X4CIC> That's the question isn't it? She knew the when though it stands to reason she'd know the where. [20:45] ::glances at the two lieutenants and Oswald:: I want paint samples from all markings, samples of the thermocoat and all unknown construction materials. Any hair, fiber, or skin samples that might have been in the vehicles. Send those back to the Forensics lab on Coronado. And I'll need access to their computer cores. [20:45] X4CIC> I don't agree. [20:45] X4 CIC> ::turns and heads for the replicator:: Everyone seems to like us today. The problem is that nobody's in any great hurry to help us. [20:46] X2> ::nods:: Will do. [20:46] X4CIC> If Alicia has no free will Savant, what's to stop us from attempting a manual purge of her database and find out for ourselves? Or do we lack the technical expertise to do that? [20:46] X2> Ms. Oswald, no doubt, has requirements for her own side of the investigation. Please help her out as best you can. [20:46] X4CIC> ::She grinned affably:: it's far easier to talk than lend a hand after all [20:46] X4 CIC> ::to the replicator:: Tea. Orange pekoe, 90 degrees, and a bit of real cane sugar, if you please. [20:46] X2> ::nods again:: Whatever you need, just ask. [20:46] X4> I'll be in my office, hopefully with the Taeran representative on comm. ::heads out of the CIC, though he took a deep breath when he was out of the room:: [20:47] X4CIC> Other than the fact that it's murder, and I happen to live in the same database? Well, we'd have to find it first, for one. [20:47] 8> ::conts to work on everything but is noticing the extra time that will be needed to make all reapirs:: [20:47] X2> I want all the sensor data you guys have of the ships... especially anything that even vaguely reads like an engine... [20:47] X2>::blinks and nods handing the PADD with the existing info:: [20:47] X4 CIC> ::pulls a stool out from one of the holotables and sits down on it, running a hand over his scalp:: [20:47] X4 CIC> ::over his shoulder:: I'm not going to authorize the destruction of an obviously intelligent lifeform to serve our purposes, Captain Bentall. [20:47] X2> ::nods to the Marines and Oswald and moves to the nearest fighter, taking her kit with her:: [20:47] X2>::to Oswald:: They don't have an engine. [20:47] SB> ::being very careful and methodical about her task as the script begins to flow out into a single name:: [20:47] X2> Or anything vaguely like it. [20:48] X4 CIC> ::removes the tea from the replicator:: If we are to be "cut," then there's -- ::stops, going pale, and continues in a soft voice:: -- then there's no defeat in letting our charge fall to a worthy enemy. [20:48] X4CIC> ::sighs:: No free will means tool to me Admiral. No free will means well programed tool to appear intelligent. Alicia is nothing more than a glorified terminal in my eyes. [20:49] X2> ::climbs up into the cockpit area and examines the control interfaces:: [20:49] X4 CIC> ::expression hardens, glancing for a fraction of a second at Savant:: I disagree, completely. Find another way. [20:49] X2>::looks at Somansky:: did it fly? [20:49] X4 CIC> Captain, I think you need some fresh air. ::pulling up a schematic of the laser rangefinder readings of the fourth chamber:: [20:49] X4CIC> ::Savant grew dour briefly, and turned back to her holograms, replying:: I spent the majority of my existance with no free will, Mister Bentall. I hope that you would reconsider your position on the matter. [20:49] X2> ::leans out of the cockpit and calls out:: Ms. Dillon? Could you come up here for a moment? [20:49] X2> ::stands back and watches Tal and Oswald:: [20:49] X2>::to Tal:: You'll notice, commander, that we've had the controls labelled into Engish. [20:49] X2> ::Nods and climbs up to the cockpit area:: Yes? [20:50] X2>::to Oswald:: I'm assuming its operating either on gravity or something magnetic. [20:50] X4> Office> ::enters his office, still completely undecorated, and sits down at the plain desk with a grim expression, and a sigh:: [20:50] SB> ::steps back, admiring her handiwork, then picks up the paint container and begins painting the remaining three locations that the shuttle's name is to be emblazoned on:: [20:50] X2> I'd like to know exactly how you came to the conclusion of what each control is. [20:57] So between now and next week they won't have enough of an understanding of the vessels to take a trip down the 4th chamber to that 'wall'? [20:58] Your two pilots have enough of an understanding to fly them around right now. [20:58] They just haven't figured out how anything but the flight controls work yet. [20:58] But other than that, they're pilots, and this is a pilot's bird. They know how to fly it. [20:58] Does riding the singularities count as flying around? [20:58] Heh, feel free to ask Maiko. I'm sure she'd be willing to experiment in those things too. [20:59] Of course. There are excellent sensor records of the Nightmares extending that tendril to catch the singularity and ride it.
