[19:04] SUMMARY: If Coro were an RTS, which strategy would you follow? [19:04] Coronado has been returned to the large nebula approximately 80 light-years "northwest" of Reor'sa. According to Savant's calculations, in about 65 days, a new anomaly will appear here. Coronado had begun a search, but it was complicated by numerous Xur vessels in the nebula. [19:04] This time, a large number of ships were sent in to aid in the search. Though the flotilla isn't large enough to confront the Xur directly, the larger number of ships combined with the wider search area allowed the Defender vessels to comb the nebula much more efficiently. [19:04] In the end, it was Coro herself that found the location where the anomaly will reappear. However, the Xur have gotten there first and appear to be fortifying that location. Coro has withdrawn from the nebula to communicate the position to the other involved ships and to plan the next step... [19:04] Briefing complete. [19:04] * CRXO_Tal acknowledges with a crisp salute. [19:04] ack [19:04] ack [19:04] ack [19:05] ack [19:05] ack [19:05] ack [19:05] ack [19:05] ack [19:05] ack [19:05] ack [19:05] ::ack:: [19:05] ack [19:05] Forgot to update that first line. We're actually between 55 and 60 IC days from D-day, not 65. With a time jump after this week to put us in the ballpark. [19:05] ack [19:06] I'll be interested to see what comes out of tonight's sim. As I've mentioned, next week will begin a series of "tactical sims." For those of you who weren't here for the last set of tactical sims, think of them as a somewhat elaborate board game. [19:07] I haven't heard from anyone as to preference as to whether to hold them during sims or during some "between sim" period. Unless anyone has a MAJOR objection, I've decided that they will happen "between sims" with the actual Coro sim reserved for actual role-playing. [19:07] Anyone want to voice a major objection? [19:07] So long as you don't do them on a Friday or Saturday evening. ;-) [19:07] ::nods:: Saturday evening is BAD. [19:07] Do them Thursday evenings. We know those are free. ;-) [19:07] or Tuesday or Wednesday evening :) [19:08] I was thinking weekday evenings when the people who are interested are around. [19:08] I'm pretty sanguine. [19:08] I'm probably not going to be there, so no worries. [19:08] My schedule is clear as always. Freeloading has its advantages sometimes. [19:08] Tuesday for me' [19:08] OK, great. If you are interested in the tactical sim portion of the next episode, please e-mail me before next week's sim. People who e-mail me first, starting at 11pm ET and not before, get first pick of the ships available. [19:09] ie, if you e-mail me before 11pm ET tonight, your e- mail doesn't count. ;) [19:09] Eastern standard time? [19:09] oh dou!! ET [19:09] that's what that means! lol [19:09] Eastern time, whatever it is. In other words, don't send e-mails until after Coro. ;) [19:10] Now, with that said, I want to make sure everyone understands the stakes here. The next four weeks are a bit like a sim version of a real-time strategy game. [19:10] * Fraser is now known as MG_Ironside [19:10] Your primary objective is to get Lora Kor's Wraith to the anomaly, undestroyed. [19:10] Your secondary objective is to save as many Defender ships as you can while completing the primary objective. [19:11] Now, within those limits, you can do whatever you want, but keep in mind that the Xur have fortified the anomaly's emergence location, so a frontal assault might not necessarily be your best option. ::glances at Commodore Daren:: [19:11] ::raises:: [19:11] Commander Tal? [19:11] * Prescot is now known as CLBC_Prescot [19:11] What - um - what happens if we fail? The universe is destroyed? [19:12] It's been established that if you leave one of these anomalies alone long enough, it rips up the fabric of space-time. [19:12] In short, yes. :) [19:12] ::raises:: [19:13] Commodore? [19:13] Figured as much. Just had to check. ;) [19:13] The ships in the tactical sim will be smaller ships and we'll be NPCs right? But oh yeah, I guess Coro still gets to "lead" the attck and plan and stuff...ok [19:14] ::nods:: There will be bigger ships involved in the fight, yes, but the main focus of the tactical portion of the sim will be fighters, same as the last one. A Xur carrier isn't quick enough to nail a small craft, but a Xur fighter certainly is. [19:14] ::murmurs something under his breath about nailing small craft in a nebula:: [19:15] What I'll probably allow is something akin to an "air strike" for each small ship in the tacsim. The air strike being one "get out of death free" card. ;) [19:15] And representing a microtorpedo volley or something similar from one of the big ships in the fight. [19:16] Any other questions about the tacsim? [19:16] I bring it up because this week should center, as much as is practical, around setting up your tactics for getting close enough to that anomaly to launch fighters. [19:16] ...or whatever other way you want to try to put the odds a bit more in your favor... ;) [19:17] ::raises:: Do we get some kind of map? :) [19:17] A map isn't really relevant. The "map" is a big open field with a spot in the middle with six Xur carriers surrounding it. ;) [19:17] great [19:17] No fog of war? ;) [19:17] Come in from the z-axis ;-) [19:18] yeah but...I'd like to know where the weapon ranges of the carriers end :) [19:18] There will be a certain amount of that, yes, Commander D'rall. And you wish it was that easy, Ironside. ;) [19:18] Ah, OK. On the order of 400,000 kilometers or so, same as Coro's beam weapon range. [19:19] * Foxie (~humanfema@12-216-42-23.client.mchsi.com) has joined #USS- Coronado [19:19] ::nods:: Ok I'm done [19:19] ::raise hand:: [19:19] Oh, and as a gentle reminder: subspace, ansible, and false matter do not work in this nebula. Keep that in mind if you decide your plan involves taking on those carriers. [19:19] Commander Skylooker? [19:20] Does that means that at 400 000 km we can fire or at that range it's that we start to do 100% damage with the weapons? [19:20] ::raises:: [19:20] It's the opening range at which you can fire Coro's weapons. But make no mistake: if you get that close, the carriers outgun you. [19:20] Colonel Prescot? [19:20] ::raises:: [19:20] do we have any idea besides the carriers what the Xur forces have? Like that big thing that prevented us from using subspace [19:20] ::nods:: [19:21] It looks like carriers, plus the ligher and the heavier fighters are all that's operating in this nebula. [19:21] or basically warp drive and slipstream I think was the big one [19:21] ::offers to add to the answer:: [19:21] ::nods:: Thank you sir [19:21] ::nods:: Warp drive is down, but slipstream and soliton wave both work. [19:21] ::rescinds the offer:: =P [19:22] Commander D'rall? [19:22] ::raises:: [19:22] Does lack of subspace/FTL computing mean that targeting is going to be mostly manual as opposed to automatic? [19:23] Have you been here for longer than a week? :) [19:23] ::shifts his weight slightly:: [19:23] I'm referring more to the race, because if I doubt D'rall is that good a shot at manual while flying ;) [19:23] Targetting is still mostly manual, yes. The weapons accuracy is a bit better, but not nearly what it is outside the nebula. [19:23] Same answer applies to the race, though what will happen there instead of randomizing is that all the craft will have reduced ranges. [19:24] Commander Tal? [19:24] How many capital ships/smaller craft will we have at our disposal for this mission? Or is just Coro and her support craft? [19:24] If you feel inclined to, you can make a plan that involves Coro plus a dozen or so other ships and forward it up the chain for consideration. At the moment, there's no "Admiral in charge" of the situation. [19:24] Anyone else? [19:25] ::glances at Daren:: It's your show then, Commodore. ;) [19:25] * Natty (~trekkiemo@adsl-69-108-13-179.dsl.scrm01.pacbell.net) has left #uss-coronado [19:25] Right. Sorry for the long Q&A, but it was needed. Let's sim. :) [19:25] =.\= =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= SIM RESUME =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =.\= [19:25] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:25] ::raises his hand:: [19:26] arrrr [19:26] * MG_Ironside is now known as MG_Ironside_X2 [19:26] CIC> ::taps on the controls of the main console and looks up at the updated display:: [19:26] ::hanging back outside the bridge for a break:: [19:26] ::steps into the command center within Alexandria and glances around for the communications area:: [19:26] CIC> ::holds back in a shadow of the CIC, looking over a PADD:: [19:27] CIC> ::also in the CIC, having commandered a simulator and looking over his holo display, grunting as he projects Xur positions and potential Defender positions:: [19:27] S> ::nods to MCPO Yurilova as he turns to leave, just having collected the security report on his way to the bridge:: [19:27] ::looks down at his console and blinks, finding it staring blankly back at him:: [19:27] CIC> If we can call in fire support, it would make this a lot easier. [19:27] ::is at his console, working:: [19:28] E> ::looks over his consol:: [19:28] Razor> ::feet up on his desk, snoring away in the midst of a power nap:: [19:28] FB>::jumps out of cockpit and head to lockr room:: [19:28] CIC> ::steps closer to a hologram and Commader Tal:: Alright, what are we thinking? ::pauses:: I agree...we'll need all the big ships we can get. [19:28] 9> ::steps out of the security office and strolls toward the bridge, seeming rather nonchalant -- in stark contrast to his usual mood within the nebula:: [19:28] CIC> We need support. There is no doubt about it. At least three destroyers to help with fighter cover for the Admiral. Bigger ships to haul in lots of fighters too [19:29] X2> ::enters the communications area and glances around, gaining the attention of a technician:: I need to set up a secure communications line to Tebrun LoraKor. [19:29] ::leaning against a bulkhead, mentally goes over the disposition in her mind:: [19:29] CIC> We position ships here - ::points:: - here - ::points elsewhere:: - and here. ::points to a third location:: With Coronado over here - ::points to the indicator for Coronado:: - we could provide something of a long-range bombardment, perhaps pull some of their capital ships off of the line. [19:29] X2> ::enters Operations from his adjacent office, taking a long look out onto the countryside and a deep breath before continuing over to check something on a console:: [19:30] M> Doctor VanDyken, good morning. How are you recovering? [19:30] =.\ction= The holograms in Coronado's CIC display many versions of the same image: Six Xur Carriers surrounding a waypoint that represents the future position of the anomaly... [19:30] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:30] CIC> We need heavy ordinace as well Commodore. As many long range high yield torpedos as you can get out of the fleet. We must force them to waste fighters in defense of their carriers and then send in a fighter heavy along with a destroyer heavy formation to plow through the Xur defenses [19:31] M> Fine thank you [19:31] Tech> I'll try sir. I believe he's outbound from Reor in the Liberator he's been allotted. One moment. [19:31] CIC> ::nods at Prescot:: I suggest Blackrazor, Vanguard, and Destiny for our bombardment companions. We should also call in as many carrier- type vessels as we can pull together. [19:31] M> Excellent. ::rubs his hands together and looks around:: Does the sickbay seem more bright to you? Seems positively radiant to me. [19:32] ::heads back onto the bridge with an idea:: [19:32] CIC> ::frowns:: It is a pity that a Nimitz Class is not to be had on this side of the Gate. Perhaps some of the heavier Camelyian ships can be called over Commodore. A glorious battle such as this would not want to be missed [19:32] M> ::grins:: what u want me to do? [19:33] CIC> Blackrazor has been assigned to Xanadu the last I heard...we'll have to find out if Drexler would be willing to part with it. [19:33] E> ::works on the main consol doing some last min diagnositcs:: [19:33] ::enters the bridge, already having stopped by the replicator at the back for a mug of cuppajo coffee, glancing at the PADD in his other hand and -- miraculously -- not almost bumping into Prentiss along the way:: [19:33] ::finds a seat and sits down quietly, waiting for the technician to locate and get ahold of the former Admiral:: [19:33] CIC> I do not think the Commodore Drexler would mind if we stole one of his escorts... to save life as we know it [19:33] E> ::talk with the members of his departement while awaiting orders:: [19:33] M> There has arrived a shipment of medical supplies. It's in six crates, I believe, in Cargo Bay One. I would very much appreciate it if you would inventory and redirect those supplies. [19:33] Blackrazor is quick and manueverable. We need that as much as we need firepower. ::nods:: And the Camelynians are an excellent thought, Colonel. [19:33] * Scotty (~scotty@w229.wp.isp.ca) has left #uss-coronado [19:34] CIC> ::taps on a padd, making note of all of the suggestions:: [19:34] E> ::checks and rechecks the circuits:: [19:34] M> I thought that would be good work for someone in recovery, as you are. You can do it seated, and thus without too great exertion, yes? [19:34] FB>::sits on bench and wipe his face:: [19:34] M> ok but where do u want me to put them [19:34] ::slides in behind the helm console and checks to see if it's possible to supplement their numbers with patrol craft from Reor - even if only just to give the Xur something else to shoot at:: [19:34] CIC> What of that Pfhor "Cooperative" ::nearly spits at the mention of them:: This is something we could use them for. Their mortar fire is exceptionally long range is it not? And their fighters are quite agile too [19:35] X2> ::hears Ironside's voice around the bend of the room and wanders over:: [19:35] ::while she has that check under way, verifies their position and runs quick diagnostics on the helm systems:: [19:35] CIC> I think we need to come up with a few ideas on breaking up that defense formation...if we can pull one or two of the carriers away...we'd have a tremendous advantage [19:35] ::rubs his chin and mouth with one hand, elbow braced on the armrest as he waits:: [19:36] X2> ::comes up behind Ironside, smiling a little:: So which job did you end up taking? [19:36] CIC> We bait them to come out. ::rubs her chin thoughtfully:: What could they possibly want more than this? [19:36] FB>::changes into fresh flight suit and heads back to fighter:: [19:37] M> The supply cabinets. They're all pre-marked. [19:37] M> [19:37] M> ill be right on it sir ::leaves the room:: [19:37] Somewhere> +com+ Spaceship Redeemer, Lora Kor here. Go ahead. [19:37] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:37] M> Good man. [19:37] CIC> ::appears to ponder:: [19:38] CIC> We should have two major lines of offense then. One a decoy and another our intended path. Have the Destroyers and the bulk of the fighters stay out of visual and sensor range of the Xur. Then just as the bombardment is about to cease... We send them in on the heals of our final tricobalts. The destroyers and fighters blazing a path as fast as they can. [19:38] ::downloads the information to a PADD and hands the helm over to her new assistant department head:: [19:38] A little from column A, a little from column B. The Meyer HQ facilities and fortifications won't be operational for another six months. In the meantime, I've planted my flag here with the Regiment and will be operating in a...advisatorial capacity. ::turns his head and swivels in his chair:: +com+ Tebrun, this is Jeremy. I took the liberty of speaking to Olmy concerning your...condition and plan. [19:38] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:38] +com+ He had some...interesting insights into the matter. [19:38] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:39] CIC> ::begins reconfiguring the model to account for the Camelynians and Pfhor:: This could prove most interesting... Captain, suggest we call in Mr. Canterbury and Ms. D'Rall to look things over. [19:39] ::finally sits down at the tactical station as the watch tactical officer leaves the bridge, and takes a long drink of the coffee, clearing his throat just afterward:: Anyone else feel well-rested today? [19:40] CIC> ::glances back at D'Rall:: Your anticipation of our need for you is most fortuitous, Ms. D'Rall. ::indicates the glowing holographic model with her padd:: Please, have a look. [19:40] CIC> ::nods:: Call them in...we can always use some more minds. [19:40] E> ::turn to Farley:: That's what it is here at least. [19:40] CIC> +taps+ Canterbury, from Tal. Please report to the CIC at once. [19:41] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:41] +com+ ::proceeds to relate his conversation with Olmy to the former Admiral - of his meeting with the doppelganger two hundred years ago, of his own message, of his own knowledge of Ironside's similar experience to LoraKor's:: [19:41] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:41] ::nods, handing Tal the PADD she is carrying:: Latest numbers for auxilliary craft from Reor. Figured maybe there's a way to use them somehow. [19:41] ::glances over at Canterbury and shakes his head, then starts tapping away at his console. It seems he's not been getting as much sleep as normal lately...I wonder why?:: [19:41] ::stands up and walks back:: +taps+ I'll be there before I finish this-- ::walks in:: --sentence. [19:41] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:41] ::looks at the holographic respresentation:: Hmm... [19:42] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:42] CIC> ::rolls her eyes:: Welcome, Mr. Canterbury, to the Cafe at the End of the Universe. [19:43] CIC> ::looks at Tal, then glances down at the coffee mug in his hand:: Oh. [19:43] FB>::walks around fighter and decides to go to the HD for a training program:: [19:43] CIC> Wait. What do the Xur want more than that Anomaly? ::looks to Tal echoing her previous comment:: That's exactly it. [19:43] ::glances at Daren:: Xandu herself, of course. [19:44] +com+ Olmy knew of my...unique experiences without having met my doppelganger. Yours told him of the future and of what would happen, no doubt giving him the opportunity to figure out his message much better than we have ours. [19:44] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:44] <> [19:44] CIC> ::looks at the two of them, really not liking the way this going:: You cannot be serious. [19:44] ::starts filing away routine reports, absently wondering why there are always so many of them, even in relative downtime:: [19:44] +com+ ::reverts:: Admiral, when he saw me, he was surprised that I was not with you, on the Liberator. [19:44] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:44] CIC> Even the Xur can't be certain that they are sitting on the right spot....they know because it's the only spot in the nebula so far with that energy signature. But what if we were to set up....another possibility for the anomaly to appear? [19:44] CIC> Would they pull ships out of the circle to investigate? [19:45] CB1> ::starts to inventory crate 2:: [19:45] CIC> ::raises an eyebrow:: You want to create another anomly? [19:45] M> I shall be on the bridge. [19:46] E> ::continu to monitor his system while speaking with others... passing up the time:: [19:46] CIC> Forget wanting to create, I think the question is *how*? [19:46] CIC> No, but... ::grins:: If we could perhaps mimic the energy signature... ::taps on the console:: ...it's possible that the slipstream generators might... we'll need Ms. Brooks and Mr. Farley to confirm all of this, of course. But the initial calculations look... doable. [19:46] +com+ This has given me new insight into my message from Gregg. What harder passage could there be than to enter that anomaly? To risk or go through death? The Xur enter the anomaly and go....to another place. What if 'the only way through' is the anomaly. What if we must take it together, given our...uniqueness. [19:46] HD1>::walks in:: computer, load program wolf0-2 ::watches as a fighter appears in front of him:: [19:46] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:46] E> ::hates all this waiting:: [19:46] CIC> No, no...of course not. But perhaps we do have the energy signature that brought US to the location in the computer. What if we somehow set up a "dummy" anomaly site? [19:46] CIC> ::breathes out:: For a second there, I had something ridiculous in my ear. It's gone now. [19:46] Somewhere> +com+ Then he was surprised. Olmy doesn't know everything, General. The answer to a riddle is obvious when you know the answer. Your answer... feels wrong. White marble-not-marble, irising doors... they all look the same. [20:33] I wonder, why does that make me nervous? [20:33] FB>::uses hand signal to signal ready for launch and shot from the ship:: [20:33] *> ::acknoledge the orders and arrive shortly to the ordered destination...:: [20:33] at least several tens of thousands of tons lighter sir. Thats a lot of technology or a ton of fighters that that ship just dropped off [20:33] ::turns to the Commodore:: Uh... now that it's accomplished its mission, it wouldn't exactly be averse to deciding to attack us, would it? [20:33] CIC> ::nods:: You're playing the Xur carriers. ::resets the display, and moves a large task force of ships and fighter support in from one side, clustered together as if aiming for the same point:: [20:34] X2> ::heads around and across the large room and into his office:: [20:34] ::glances left, then right, trying to discern whether this is the same apartment complex:: [20:34] lighter? ::perks up:: How much lighter? ::stands:: Did we get a good enough scan as it passed? [20:34] =.\ction= Again, if the carrier has detected Coronado, she doesn't react. [20:34] Captain... we sould destroy that Carrier [20:34] the enemy is here in front of us and we are doing nothing. [20:34] And draw attention to ourseves? [20:34] Get me as highly detailed a scan as possible... [20:34] One carrier, all right, but what about five or six more? [20:35] CIC> If you're the Xur, how would you react to that kind of attack? [20:35] I'm not sure we can afford to stir the bees nest at this point Colonel [20:35] ::tilts his head slightly:: [20:35] Captain its a -transport- It is light at least 10 thousand tons of material [20:35] CIC> ::adjusts the Xur ships to counter D'Rall's moves:: I would commit a single ship and its support craft. The force you use there will prove a challenge but not, ultimately, dangerous. [20:35] SB> ::gets the PADDS ready for the team:: [20:35] What is that old earth saying? Don't shoot the messenger? Does that apply here? [20:36] If it has fighters it would have to launch them. we have false matter shields out here and one false matter torpedo would sink this beast [20:36] Olmy? ::remains still for a moment and waits:: [20:36] CIC> ::nods:: And if that force kept going, ignoring the ship? [20:36] What could a carrier bring along that didn't need constant support? ::goes to cross-reference the known operational range and time of unsupplied Xur fighters:: [20:36] SB> ::enter in and report to the Cmdr:: [20:36] =.\ction= The carrier finishes whatever business -- if any - - it has in that system. A rift opens in front of it. [20:36] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:37] ::moves to Canterbury's station, attempting to read over his shoulder:: [20:37] SB> ::turns to the entrance:: Good day people. ::hands each of them a PADD:: [20:37] CIC> Attack them with full firepower from the initial ship as well as whatever firepower I can from the two nearest ships without them breaking position on the picket line. [20:37] ::rubs his forehead:: It is now or never Commodore [20:37] TB1>+com+thunderird lead to coronado, heading into the nebula [20:37] SB> I need 4 probes refitted to emit these signatures exactly and mounted on the shuttle. Yesterday! [20:38] SB> ::each took a padd, then turned their attention to the Cmdr:: [20:38] X2> Olmy> ::appears in front of Ironside, appearing out of thin air with a just-discernable sizzling sound:: Good day, General. You are becoming a frequent visitor. [20:38] =.\ction= For a fraction of a second, an image appears on Olmy's pictor: a dog sniffing at this bush and that bush, apparently in search of something. [20:38] =.\ction= The carrier enters the rift and vanishes. [20:38] ::exhales:: (m) maybe I should have taken that Academy job. [20:39] Do we have any location as to the rifts destination? [20:39] CIC> ::shakes her head slowly:: We need to make them believe that we are committing to the false signature. [20:39] SB> That's all I need today. ::smiles a little:: Get to work [20:39] ::narrows his eyelids:: How long do we have until the next one? I don't like parlor tricks... [20:39] ::nods and returns his tricorder to his holster:: I've had some time to think about what you've said last time I spoke with you, and also received an increasing amount of discouraging information regarding the Xur troop movements within the location of the next tear. I would like to speak to you regarding these things if you're willing. [20:40] SB> ::they all nods to the Cmdr and went to work, doing 2 prob at a time..:: [20:40] SB> ::gets back into the shuttle to program the nessary info:: [20:40] ::sighs slightly:: We don't know a whole lot about the operational limits of the Xur fighters, but it's a safe bet that they can last at least half a day or more without support. [20:40] X2> Olmy> I'm not entirely sure how much help I can be, but if I can assist, I will. [20:40] Commodore they have this timmed like clockwork. Every 6 minutes, 43 seconds a new rift opens [20:41] <> [20:41] TB1>::heads back along the coordiate for the carriers:: [20:41] CIC> ::nods:: We leave a ship or two and some fighters behind though, try to apparently stall the Xur's pursuit. Their attention is diverted, their fighters are diverting, and that opens up the hole for this. ::with her free hand, sweeps in the Liberator and escorts:: That's the only way I can see this working. [20:41] They are in the system for 6 minutes, 43 seconds before they open a rift Commodore [20:41] * L2FL_Wolf (~meZ@ip68-226-106-166.ph.ph.cox.net) Quit (Quit: ) [20:41] << eraser >> [20:41] ::nods:: Last time we spoke, you knew of my...similarity in experiences with those that own the flaw, but did not mention how you knew even though you had not met my presumed doppelganger. [20:41] They are in the system for a total of eight minutes and thirty three seconds [20:42] Captain if this happens again we must hit them next, while they are full of supplies or what have they [20:42] ::nods:: It took me a while to warm up Colonel, but I agree with you this time. [20:43] CIC> ::nods slowly:: We'll need to commit nearly half of our forces to the feint, if they're to believe we're serious about this. [20:43] X2> Olmy> I am not singular in my mission, General. There are others who defend the interests of the Hexamon, and we encounter each other -- and converse -- from time to time. [20:43] ::nods:: True. But if the Traxati would help, we could have them hang back with the Liberator group. Those needlers are just the thing to clear the way and would make up for the loss in numbers. [20:43] Commodore if we can sir, we could use another fast ship in here to help make this easier for us. Perhaps a Defiant-II or even the Blackrazor? [20:44] < that>> [20:44] But I feel that this first time will be us alone. May I suggest that we move closer to the location in question sir? [20:44] ::listens carefully while he continues to work, signing a few things before sending them on, then picks up his cup and drains it before moving to drop it in the replicator:: [20:44] ::feels a slight pit in his stomach as the existence of a clone is more or less confirmed by that statement:: My doppelganger has encountered an associate of yours then. [20:45] Worse comes to worse, we cannibalize escape pods. Load them with warheads and strap them on to every ship. Use them as makeshift torpedoes or mines. [20:45] SB> ::conts to work on the info:: [20:45] X2> Olmy> ::shrugs his massive shoulders:: I was given a picture of you. It was reasonably accurate. [20:45] Hmm... ::checks the map:: ...let's stay where we are. So far they haven't been seeing us or don't care. We should be close enough to catch them from here, as long as the helm is ready. ::looks to the helmsman:: [20:45] CIC> ::nods as she taps on the main console:: I'm preparing a series of messages requesting all possible aid. The Traxati will be among those receiving our request, along with every ship in reasonable range. [20:45] ::pipes in after a few moments:: Are we even sure they've got a regular supply line going here? [20:46] ::a little more quietly, perhaps less confident than normal:: May I see it? [20:46] Standing by on your orders. [20:46] Recommend we go to red alert sir. I will call back my fighters to provide us an escort and we can engaged the warp drive to do us a small in system jump to just in ront of the Xur before shooting a false matter tropedo at them [20:46] Helm, take us half the range to the target location...when the Xur ship appears we move in fast. [20:47] X2> Olmy> Certainly. ::produces the picture on his pictor:: [20:47] ::looks to Canterbury:: Set your weapons to diable their engines right away... [20:47] SB> ::meet no difficulties programming the first two prob, until they found out a problem within the prob...:: [20:47] Aye aye sir. ::engages engines and begins closing the distance to the half-range mark:: [20:47] =.\ction= With a chirping sound from the Helm console, Coronado's engines engage... [20:47] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:47] ::sets up a message so that as soon as the flight that went into Nebula comes back out they move into formation, telling the flight outside now to hold posotion:: [20:48] =Description= The picture is recognizably Jeremy Ironside, circa 2385, about the time he participated in handling the uprising at the Underhill colony. This Ironside is wearing civilian clothes of a type Ironside himself might or might not actually wear in real life. It's a little disturbing -- like looking at a picture of a younger brother who doesn't like you. [20:48] X2> ::has a brief discussion with Aldur, then sighs and heads back to Operations:: [20:49] ::stares at the image for a moment, its appearance not at all like what he expected - him four years ago when the divergence was recorded following the delta directive appearing:: [20:49] CIC> ::grimaces:: We're moving. ::to D'Rall:: Bridge, let's go. [20:50] CIC> ::nods, following:: Where we're going to, I'm afraid to ask. [20:50] X2> Olmy> ::disengages the picture:: I was able to recognize you from that image. [20:50] ::re-enters the bridge and looks to Daren questioningly:: [20:50] ::nods:: Commander. [20:50] ::walks over to the helm, giving Prentiss a wink as she slides in behind the helm console:: [20:51] Might I ask what we are doing, sir? [20:51] ::looks out the viewport for a moment, then down at his console as it beeps softly and he relays a message to Daren's console, completely missing the wink:: [20:51] We might have to use a false matter torpedo to soften them up... and we're still out on a limb here, assuming that they'll arrive at all. =) [20:51] SB> ::sticks his head out:: How's it going? [20:51] <> [20:52] X2> Olmy> Is this all you wanted from me? Family photographs? [20:52] ::nods:: Yes, thank you, that was approximately nineteen years ago, in my time. ::pauses, then changes the course of conversation, reasserting his strong voice:: You have by now gone over the records of the last Xur assault of this station, I would assume. [20:52] SB> ::One of them awnser:: Doing better now sir. ::was able to fix the problem and told the "second" team about it:: [20:52] ::looks over the course terminus and plotted corrections, puzzled:: [20:52] SB> Problem? [20:53] ::taps his fingers on the chair:: Did you say something about 6 minutes? [20:53] X2> ::considers performing a readiness drill for the task force to practice returning to Xanadu in time to make an emergency translation:: [20:53] ::Watches wolf's squadron pull out of the Nebula and nods:: I have all of my fighters in now sir.... We are ready to go at your notice. [20:53] X2> Olmy> I have, yes. A fearsome opponent. In all honesty, I must tell you that the Xur are a key reason we have agreed to separate Xanadu from The Way. [20:53] ::mutters:: I suppose not... [20:54] SB> ::One of them awnser:: Not anymore sir. [20:54] Within sixty days, Xanadu will translate itself to within a nebula where subspace technology does not function, nor false matter or our....::pauses at Olmy's comment:: ...ansibles. The Xur will have no fewer than six carriers there, operating at a capcity much beyond our own. [20:54] SB> What was the problem? [20:55] SB> ::One of them awnser:: A prior miss configuration sir. [20:56] X2> Olmy> ::nods at Ironside:: Yes. As I said, I have reviewed Alicia's records. And some number belonging to your friend Savant, who has taken up residence within Xanadu's computer cores. [20:56] We are formulating as many plans and contingencies as we can in an attempt to pave the way to make sure that Tebrun is able to reach the anomaly and close it via the detonation of his craft. But the probability of success as it stands is not encouraging. If we are unable to accomplish this, Xanadu will be destroyed while still attached to the Way. I do not know of the consequences to you and your peo [20:56] SB> I want these probes triple checked before and after reconfiguation. We can't afford any problems out there. [20:56] ...but it will mean the end of this universe in due time. [20:57] X2> Olmy> The end of this universe, perhaps, but not the end of The Way. [20:57] And this you know? [20:57] ::looks to Tal:: We've been monitoring a bunch of Carriers entering and leaving the nebula...Colonel Prescot seems to think, and I agree, that these Carriers are actually Transports relaying materials to the Xur inside the nebula. [20:58] X2> Olmy> I am not completely unsympathetic to your situation. When Xanadu envelops these anomalies, Alicia is programmed to alert a number of automated fighter craft who move to seal the rift. [20:58] The next one we see, we're going to attempt a capture. [20:58] ::nods:: A reasonable assumption - fighters and supplies would be the most likely materials. [20:58] SB> Aye aye sir. [20:58] ::raises his chin a little:: We have not seen these fighter craft as of yet. [20:58] Capturing an enemy craft, could lend a significant advatage in the upcoming operation [20:58] X2> Olmy> ::ignores the question:: If it would be of assistance to you, I am willing to release these craft to your people. ::smiles, very slightly, a VERY toothy thing:: You have been kind enough to assist me with my own work, after all. [20:58] ::leans back and watches as his console quiets, giving him a small break:: [20:58] ::nods:: A Trojan Horse. [20:59] ::looks at the two of them:: The last time we entered into a Xur carrier the results were disasterous. I would highly recommend against it. [20:59] Would certainly even up the odds a bit more. [20:59] ::smiles slightly:: It would be of great assistance to us, Olmy, and we would appreciate it greatly if you would. [21:00] ::glances at Prescot:: As opposed to going up against 6 or more Xur carriers without half our technology working? [21:00] We wouldn't need to necessarily enter the ship...just use it [21:00] I believe the expression, Colonel, is "If greatness is not dared, greatness is not achieved." [21:00] X2> Olmy> Consider it done. Now, if there is nothing else, General? [21:00] And I hope that I will be able to assist you in your...own work in the future. ::tilts his head slightly to the side, wondering whether Olmy will reveal this work to him so that he may help him in a more efficient fashion:: [21:00] ::looks over at D`rall:: you are suggesting that we bring infected Xur technology to our own ship? [21:01] ::glances at Tal, wondering who wrote that. A Brit, probably:: [21:01] I'm suggesting we find some way to make that ship do what WE want. [21:02] subverting a subverter? [21:02] X2> ::glances over:: Lieutenant, prepare to load translation readiness drill alpha. ::then at a chronometer:: [21:02] (m) I really should have taken that job at the Academy ::shakes his head:: And theres a differance between idiotcy and greatness [21:02] ::breathes in:: I don't know about you, but you'd have to lobotomise me if you wanted to get me to do anything even remotely resembling a boarding operation on a Xur carrier. [21:02] X2> Olmy> I will certainly inform you if so, General. ::nods, turns, and heads down the adjoining corridor:: [21:02] SB> ::one of the two "sub" team start working on the 3rd probe, as the other team do the tripple check up..:: [21:03] Why the hell not? ::grin:: I think it'd be rather poetic justice. ::turns back to the front:: ...and a little payback for what they did to me. [21:03] SB> ::... on those already programmed probe..:: [21:03] ::nods and watches the 'man' go, then turns and heads to make his way down the apartment complex and back into the city:: [21:03] =.\= =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= SIM PAUSE =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =.\= [21:03] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [21:03] ::attn:: [21:03] * CRXO_Tal snaps to attention. [21:04] With that said, I'm not entirely sure that you've finalized your plan yet, so you might want to aftersim or log to do so. ;) [21:05] ::attn:: [21:05] By my count, Nightmares, Camelynian Lightning, Camelynian Vengeance, Spectres, Wraiths, and if I'm feeling VERY generous, a very small number of Banshees. [21:05] No Hornets? [21:05] Oh, and Hornets, of course. Or a shuttlecraft, if you want one. :) [21:06] Colonel Prescot, question? [21:06] And those 'automated' craft Olmy released? [21:06] Since Im going away.. But I am coming back, this means that you cant kill/maim/whatever me unless the ships crew does something utterly stupid..... right? [21:06] ...are more Nightmares. [21:06] Ah. [21:06] ::raises hand:: [21:06] No promises. On your way. ;) [21:06] Captain Drexler? [21:06] Are we just using fighters then? I thought we'd be simulating all of the larger ships, as well. [21:07] And task forces. [21:07] See my notes at the top of the sim. [21:07] ... [21:07] blast [21:07] Ship-to-ship combat will mostly be portrayed in the Monday night sims. The tac sims will mostly be fighters that can occasionally call down a "nuke", Starcraft Ghost style. ;) [21:07] Any other questions? [21:08] Groups of fighters, or just one fighter per participant? [21:08] ::Raises:: [21:08] Probably groups, but that'll depend on how many people are interested. [21:08] Commander Tal? [21:08] Didn't you mention some house-cleaning chores last week that you wanted to do this week? [21:08] Yeah, but we're running over, unfortunately. :/ I'll do them BEFORE the sim next week. ;) [21:08] Anyone else? [21:09] bah :-p [21:09] ::raises again:: [21:09] Colonel? [21:09] Why do it now when you can always put it off til next week! lol [21:09] since we are picking this up a while later? Did we get to destroy any Xur carriers? [21:09] on the next sim that is [21:09] that came out so bad... [21:10] Very bad. ;) [21:10] did we get to kill any of the Xur carriers that were warping around the system and the nebula acting liek transports... Because arent you guys picking up at the tac sim, how many days into the future? [21:10] That's part of the reason I recommend an aftersim/log. ;) [21:10] If there's nothing else...? [21:10] * CLBC_Prescot recommends that we killed everything [21:11] For "killed everything," I'd want a 50K joint log from 5 people, at least. ;) [21:11] How about 250K from one person? :) [21:11] For "mined the crap out of the Xur waypoint," a 10K-ish log would do. ;) [21:11] IIRC, the Generations script ran about 375K ;) [21:12] Right, we're done.
