I took the one less travelled by. [19:04] Coronado's damage is now repaired and a number of Defender ships have gathered in Reorsan space. Reorsan government officials are negotiating with the Nexus given that we've learned that Xanadu is the cause of the tears. Will Xanadu need to be destroyed, or is there another solution? [19:04] A new tear is sure to form, and in the meantime, there are several possible strategies to follow. General Ironside has advocated taking the fight to the Xur and making it too expensive for them to contest us at the next tear. To this end, a reconnaissance mission was sent behind Xur lines. [19:05] However, defending Xanadu inside one of our most strongly- held systems -- Regency -- certainly has its appeal. With Xanadu so firmly in Defender space, the asteroid-starship will be very difficult for the Xur to attack. What we need at this point is the date and location of the next tear... [19:05] Briefing complete. [19:05] * CRXO_Tal acknowledges with a crisp salute. [19:05] ack [19:05] ackety ack [19:05] ack [19:05] ack [19:05] ack [19:05] #uss-coronado-ooc , BTW. [19:42] Aldur> X2> ::nods, frowning:: Frankly, from what I've seen of this Suli Ram Kikura, I'm wondering if she's just guessing, and hopes this will clear this up. [19:42] Embry> +com+ Xanadu Control from Blackrazor [19:42] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:42] Aldur> X2> But that's between her and our -- civilian -- negotiators. ::makes the tiniest possible face:: [19:42] +com+ Blackrazor, this is Xanadu Control. Anything there of interest? [19:43] ::speaks for the first time since the Admiral arrived:: Given the pessimistic outlook that the being represented by Gregg gave us several months ago, I do not believe that simply disconnecting Xanadu from The Way will be sufficient to completely stop the tears. [19:43] Embry> +com+ Requesting permission to enter the 1st chamber and dock? [19:43] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:43] X2> ::nods:: He did seem to indicate that Xanadu itself would need to be destroyed. [19:43] Checking it now, Captain. [19:44] +com+ ::She spoke clearly and calmly, like a stereotypical flight controller:: Blackrazor, you are authorized to enter the firts chamber on approach vector beta-9. [19:44] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:44] ::pulls the I032 system data up as a projection on the holotank:: [19:44] X2> I certainly hope that another option is viable. [19:44] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:44] Aldur> X2> Well, he isn't exactly around to make his case and honestly, I can't see the difference between destroying Xanadu and cutting us off from this Way. [19:45] A small red dwarf and two relatively insignificant planetoids, sir. [19:45] A class C planet similar to Venus in Sol's system and a class I asteroid. Neither's that remarkable. [19:45] Aldur> X2> ::bland:: It isn't my intent to start a debate with you. Our civilian negotiators set up this situation. Our role is simply to implement those decisions. [19:46] ::nods:: [19:46] X2> ::she nods:: I understand entirely, Sir. [19:46] There is also a smaller red "subdwarf" star that orbits the system at a radius of a quarter light year. [19:46] ::tilts his head slightly to the side:: If we retain Xanadu, will the power required to power the facility's connection to The Way be free for use? Enough to power the facility's catapult? [19:46] X2> ::nods:: Has a separation date been assigned, sir? [19:46] ::watches silently as the new helm officer expertly guids Razor into place and docks firmly with Xanadu:: You have hte bridge Mr. Embry. How many people do you have in the Fourth Chamber at present, and how long to get 'em out? [19:47] Their course could, however, take them past that system and into system I031... Artemis. [19:47] ::nods:: Granted, Lieutenant... [19:48] X2> ::Savant nodded as well to that, looking upwards at the singularity with slightly narrowed eyes. The Nexus was only aware of one singularity when it departed. [19:49] X2> Less than a week to recover Tuberider, certainly. Maybe a bit longer if we extract all of the equipment we have in the Fourth Chamber as well. [19:49] X2> ::enters the control centre and looks around for Drexler:: [19:49] Aldur> X2> ::nods:: It all comes out, Captain. [19:49] There could very well be a Xur staging area out there somewhere... [19:49] X2> ::She muttered slightly, still looking up at the singularity:: We aren't going to be able to get all of it out, Sir. And cross-reference seems to indicate that it was destroyed some time ago by the Pfhor. [19:55] X2> ::nods:: A good thing I suppose. I had to replace a large portion of my crew and we didn't have time to run them through any drills before we left Reor'sa so I've got Lieutenant Embry running them now. [19:59] Helm, adjust course to put us on the other side of the system...::turns to Tal:: Then let's see what LORASON can see... [19:59] X2> ::nods:: Anything you can share with me? [19:59] Aldur> X2> They've only got two ships that can deploy that weapon, and one of them's all but subverted now. [19:59] ::nods:: It will still take 26 minutes, roundtrip, for the pulse to generate data. Still, it seems to be our best bet. [20:00] Ms. Brooks, bring the LORASON Array online. Our best guess is that there has to be enough of them in close proximity with each other for them to "wake up." [20:03] * ENtc_Olmos is now known as ObsTrooman [20:03] ::shakes his head:: He gave us no information concerning the subversion. [20:08] X2> ::Savant stood up, the holograms around her falling away except for one, the feed from Blue Lion:: Preliminary reports spotted eight. Blue Lion didn't get close enough to do an accurate count. [20:08] X2> Under a light year? What is the source of gravity that close to Meyer? [20:08] Aldur> X2> ::frowns and nods:: Very well, General. Unfortunately, I don't see how that does us a damn bit of good. [20:08] TL> ::enters TL:: Deck 9, bridge. [20:08] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:09] It'll be a bit better than an high speed recon flight...if there's a battlefleet out there, I want to know numbers and energy levels to the last detail... [20:09] X2> ::nods and speaks loudly:: This has got to stop, we're losing to many people to this damn subversion. [20:09] Aldur> X2> Did he give you any clues that would help here? You've talked to the man. I haven't. [20:09] He delivered to me, and to Admiral LoraKor, two separate messages. [20:09] Getting back some returns... looks like there's a carrier right near the Blue Lions Squadron, about a lightyear from here. [20:09] X2> Commodore Drexler, I recommend raising our alert status. They could be here at any moment. [20:10] =.\ction= +com+ Acknowledged, Xanadu. Nesting and bugging out. ETA back to Regency, 3-0 minutes. [20:10] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:11] X2> ::Savant nods:: Aye, Commodore. ::She crossed her legs again and resumred monitoring:: [20:11] The Admiral took his message as an indication he should pilot the Liberator into the last tear - given the appearance of readings that show Gregg may have been present when he did this leads me to believe he interpreted his message correctly. [20:11] Aldur> X2> ::nods and practically growls:: Riddles. Wonderful. And do you have any idea what your message might have meant? [20:12] Are they doing anything in particular, Ms. Brooks? [20:12] ::strokes his chin and looks at Brooks:: How many subverted and Xur craft so far? [20:12] E> ::works on one of the main consol's on the "sphere project":: [20:12] ::shakes his head:: Not as of yet, no. What passage he spoke of is not apparent to me - through the Way, perhaps? To the Xur subverted planets? [20:13] ::Savant sent out a call to the forces under her control:: +com+ Whitestone, this is Xanadu Station. Be advised, there is a Xur carrier within striking distance of the Regency system. Be prepared to recieve changes in orders. That is all. [20:13] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:13] ::leans back against a nearby console and folds his amr in front of his chest, trying to think of anything that might be useful to them:: [20:14] < that>> [20:14] Aldur> X2> This is why I enjoy riddles so much. OK. Until and unless you can get me better information, I'm going to assume that a direct assault on subverted planets is futile. [20:15] Aldur> X2> In the meantime, I suggest you work on that riddle. In the stories I've read, the solution is obvious once you see it. [20:15] ::shrugs at Tal:: Holding position at the moment, but this data is about a minute old by the time we get it, remember. [20:15] ::frowns, nods:: There is one other item. From Olmy, nonetheless. He has met my doppelganger. [20:15] They must be waiting for something... [20:15] Of Gregg's kind. I'm surprised you've read the report, actually. [20:21] Subverted Banshees and such. Ohh, it's also likely that they know about that rogue asteroid, having subverted those Banshees. [20:21] M> +taps+ Very well. [20:21] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:22] ::looks to Tal, then to the Ensign at Tactical and then ack at Tal:: I think we can take'm... [20:22] ::nods:: As long as we have sufficient false matter weapons at our disposal, a single Carrier should pose little threat to the Alliance vessels in the area. However, we still have another 12 minutes until the scan of I032 comes back. I suggest we wait. [20:23] ::mutters something about they'd better have better luck against them than they had against the Pfhor in that system:: [20:23] E> +taps+ And Doctor time is short. [20:23] As I said, Olmy has met my doppelganger - who apparently provided him direction as to his tasks for the future. He provided me an image - myself, though of years past during a time when I was dealing with federation dissidents. [20:23] Aldur> X2> I recall that you appeared to be killed, General. We've seen the Organians do some pretty amazing things over the years. What's your point? [20:23] X2> ::She nodded:: Acknowledged. [20:23] M> +taps+ I'm not taking this slowly, sir. This doppelganger warned Olmy of our coming, and bid him to investigate that Alexandria had been reoccupied. [20:26] ::blinks:: [20:26] E> ::watches the empty torp get set up:: [20:26] That's not good... [20:26] E> ::enters engineering:: Good idea. That's just what I was thinking. [20:26] X2> ::Savant turned to Drexler:: No rifts incoming Sir. With your permission, I will begin a low level search of local space to see if they rifted in within conventional range. [20:27] X2> Strange. [20:27] E> Hello doc. I was hoping we would be on the same page. [20:27] E> ::shows him to the work room:: [20:27] X2> Go ahead, Savant. We have this region pretty well- monitored, do we not? [20:28] X2> ::Savant sat back a little and watched local space as best she was able, still submerged within the network. she was sure that the Xur carrier noticed the Banshees and left while they were able. She replied to Drexler:: This system, yes. Beyond, no. [20:28] ::grits her teeth:: Dammit... [20:28] X2> ::looks back up at the lonely asteroid on the long- range sensors:: And... what direction is that asteroid drifting? [20:28] E> See doc we could put the virus in the torp and fire it into the main ship and the virus should spread through the whole ship's affected parts. [20:28] Aldur> X2> ::frowns:: So. Did Olmy tell you that he'd seen... "me" before? [20:28] Aldur> X2> Or you? [20:28] +com+ Xanadu Control to Blue Lion Lead. How do you boys feel about getting a bit of danger pay today? [20:28] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:29] Not myself, but he had been provided pictures of my doppelganger such that he was able to recognize myself. [20:29] X2> ::Savant lifted a hand and conjured a hologram of the asteroids' path through local space:: [20:29] E> We would need a fast acting virus to make it work correctly I would think. [20:29] X2> ::glances at Aldur, then back to Savant:: That surprises me. I would've hoped by now we'd have a listening post set up in all of the systems surrounding Reor just for this sort of thing. [20:29] I want to know what the importance of that asteroid is... [20:29] =.\ction= +com+ Lions at the ready, Xanadu. Currently 1-0 minutes from Regency. [20:29] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:30] ::shudders slightly:: When agreed to provide us with additional Nightmares, he said that it was only reasonable, given I was "kind enough to assist him with his own work". [20:30] E> Sure, but you'd be better off dropping the torpedo off cold and having it arm itself and come online a few minutes after the dropping ship departs. It'd be capital if you could get a cloaked ship to do it. [20:30] Does LORASON have anything spectacular on the asteroid? [20:30] E> Blackrazor, I mean. [20:30] E> We could leave the actuall delievery up to the ship that would be handling it. [20:30] Aldur> X2> ::nods:: He's since explained that. Apparently, one of Olmy's jobs in and around Alexandria was closing tears that Xanadu came across. That, and scouting the area for Jarts, whatever they are. [20:30] =.\ction= Ship's condition is currently: Yellow Alert . [20:31] Aldur> X2> You still haven't explained why you believe that... I have one of these dopplegangers, General. [20:31] ::folds her arms across her chest and waits for Brooks's answer:: [20:31] +com+ Well done, Blue Lions. Transmitting new vector information. You'll be conducting a search of local space around the Regency system for Xur forces. Please confirm vector information and current fuel reserves. [20:31] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:31] E> I think we'd be better off planning this from beginning to end. Leaving details up to operator discretion is just the reason why things fail. [20:32] Better yet Captain... ::pulls up the flight sensor data on IO32 from Coronado's last time in that system:: Compare the scans now to then. [20:32] Proaly just eing used as a gravity well for their rift drives... [20:32] X2> ::huffs a bit and sits down at a console:: [20:32] E> You could be right, but first is the virus that would work then to get it into the infected ship [20:32] ::shrugs:: A somewhat speculative deduction based upon our experiences with the spheres in the past. Upon our kindred views and methods of operation. ::pause:: I could always ask Olmy whether him or any of his kindred had come across one such as you as they have Tebrun's and mine. [20:32] =.\ction= +com+ Sufficient fuel for four more soliton jumps, Xanadu. Just say the word. Be advised our sensors are fighter-standard, however. [20:32] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:33] E> What do you think Doc? Could this work? [20:33] Aldur> X2> ::expression clouds:: I'll deal with that myself, General. Thank you. That's all for now. [20:33] Then, perhaps, we could eliminate it as a jumping-in point for them. [20:33] E> O dp [20:33] Aldur> X2> ::straightens his uniform, looking -- for Aldur -- agitated:: [20:33] ::shrugs:: Valuable source of various types or ore.. [20:33] +com+ Master of Regency, Xanadu hails thee. The enemy doth retreat in shame and cowardice, surely at the thought of engaging in the open field. The hunt for the prey doth continue, and we shalt share with the the spoils of our search once suitable quarry is found. [20:33] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:33] <> [20:34] ::nods respectfully and uncrosses his arms, returning to the center of the room:: [20:34] E> I don't know. Do you have a virus already ready to go? [20:34] ::looks from D'rall to Brooks:: Do the scan comparisons show anything of interest? ::looks to D'rall:: What're you getting at Lieutenant/ [20:34] E> I've been in the data banks and found a few that might work. ::shows the doc the list:: [20:34] X2> +com+ Blue Lions' sensor profile is confirmed. You will be searching high-probability areas for Xur activity. [20:34] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:34] =.\ction= A response comes in from Meyer III. +com+ Understood, Xanadu. Forasmuch as we are thy valued allies, we woulst request thy sensor data for future encounters. Had thee given us such data before, the foe need not have slipped through thy grasp. [20:34] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:34] E> But I'll let you be the judge dco. [20:35] E> Me? What do I know about the Xur? [20:35] X2> ::glances over at Aldur and Ironside again:: [20:35] ::shrugs:: I'm not Captain. But Coronado has been to IO32 previously. I figured comparing scan data would just be a good thing to do. [20:35] =.\ction= +com+ We await thy pleasure, fortress of Xanadu, and art quite sure that thy wilt not unduly delay this most reasonable request. [20:35] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:35] +com+ Pray thee, we are too cautious, and did not wish to raise thine sword without just cause. [20:35] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:35] =.\ction= Ship's condition is currently: Yellow Alert . [20:35] E> You know virus' and I thought you might now which one might work best and fastest? [20:36] It's an automated process, Commander D'Rall. New scan data is always compared to old data. [20:37] Aldur> X2> ::heads back into the main control center, obviously lost in thought:: [20:37] E> ::looks at Farley with one of those looks that he gives people who know nothing about medicine but are still trying to back-seat- drive a procedure:: [20:37] X2> ::glances at Savant:: How do you manage to talk to them without getting confused? ::slight grin:: [20:37] Aldur> X2> Captain Drexler, what's the status of your pursuit of those fighters? [20:37] E> ::gives a look back as if he is the best back seat driver there ever was!:: [20:37] ::is obviously now just as deep in thought as the Admiral, again pondering the meaning of Gregg's message -- what passage did he speak of? In what manner might it be difficult?:: [20:37] X2> ::she looked over at Bentall blandly:: I'm currently speaking with fifty-two people. I find their speech refreshing, actually. [20:37] X2> They docked with a Xur carrier in a neighboring system, and the carrier then rifted away. [20:38] E> ::looks over the list once more:: This one might. But I guarantee nothing. This is so far out of my area, I guarantee nothing. [20:38] ::nods:: True, but sometimes it takes human intuition to spot something a computer might miss. ::shrug:: [20:38] X2> Right... I forget sometimes you have advantages over the rest of us. [20:38] Aldur> X2> ::stops short... and then gives Drexler a level 4 Captain's Glare:: [20:38] E> Don't worry doc, I'm just giving it my best shot too. [20:38] X2> ::Savant lifted a hand and showed footage of the Xurian carrier rifting out, for Aldurs' edification:: [20:38] Aldur> X2> There's a Xur carrier that close to Regency? And you permitted it? [20:38] E> Thanks for the help. I'm going to get Daren's approval now. [20:38] E> +taps+ Farley to Daren [20:38] X2> ::looks at Derxler than at Aldur and is suddenly glad he's not Drexler:: [20:38] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:38] X2> The carrier rifted away before any units could've arrived, admiral. [20:40] +taps+ Daren here... [20:40] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:40] Aldur> X2> ::frowns even more:: I see. How close did it get? You realize, of course, that the Xur now know where Xanadu can be found. [20:40] E> +Taps+ Sir, I might have a way to uninfect the infected ships. [20:40] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:40] X2> Yes, admiral, I realized that as soon as we were spotted by the Banshees. [20:40] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:40] =.\ction= Ship's condition is currently: Yellow Alert . [20:41] ::glances at Daren:: Our top minds have been working on this for over a year, and Farley comes up with a cure today? This ought to be good... [20:42] ::glances at a display showing the fourth chamber:: [20:42] Aldur> X2> ::nods:: By letting that intel out of the area, you've greatly increased the danger you face here. That was a scouting mission. [20:42] Aldur> X2> A successful scouting mission. [20:42] E> ::stands by, folding his arms and looking over the copious information on his padd:: [20:42] ::turns back to the helm and clears the data readout, shifting back to scanning with the flight sensors for any sign of rifts:: [20:42] X2> ::mutters:: Far more successful than mine was at anyrate. [20:42] +taps+ Prepare a preliminary report for me Commander...I'll look it over and decide if it's got the stuff. [20:42] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:43] X2> With all due respect, admiral, the carrier was gone within seconds of reclaiming the Banshees. [20:43] +taps+ If it does, I'll set up some test lab space for you [20:43] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:43] Aldur> X2> And you know this... how? Presumably subspace sensors. Let's see the record. ::points at the closest holographic tank:: [20:43] X2> ::Savant held her hand up and conjured the correct records into the Holotank which Aldur desires:: [20:44] E> +taps+ Already donw testing sir [20:44] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:44] E> ::looks sharply at Farley:: What testing? [20:44] Aldur> X2> ::watches the timestamps on the accelerated holographic display, face growing darker and darker:: [20:44] +taps+ ::sighs:: Done testing? how exactly? [20:44] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:44] E> +taps+ The testing that needs to be done now is the real thing [20:44] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:44] ::mutters to Daren:: When has he had time to test something like that? [20:45] Aldur> X2> Fifteen minutes. ::shakes his head:: That carrier was in that system for 15 minutes. ::spins around to address Drexler:: [20:45] E> +taps+ I propose to infect the infection and kill it. [20:45] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:45] Aldur> X2> Captain, the next time you have the opportunity to destroy a Xur carrier, you will take it. Xanadu has defensive forces for a reason. [20:45] +taps+ ::nods:: As I said COmmander, prepare a report for me and I will see if I can get you some REAL test sujects....is my order a problem for you? [20:45] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:45] ::blinks:: [20:45] ::glances up from the display, between Aldur and Drexler:: [20:45] His idea actually has some merit. If it works in practice... [20:45] Aldur> X2> ::closes on Drexler:: They do not exist to sit here passively, waiting for an attack. Is that clearly understood, Captain? [20:45] X2> ::watches Aldur and looks at Drexler's reaction to the outburst, thinking that it was almost like watching a tennis match. A lop- sided one at anyrate:: [20:46] =.\ction= Ship's condition is currently: Yellow Alert . [20:46] X2> ::Savant calmly went back to her monitoring, relaxing into the wash of the network:: [20:46] E> +taps+ No, sir. Just thought you'd like to use it as soon as possible and get this infection problem under control? [20:46] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:46] X2> ::does not argue, but doesn't seem to react any differently than normal:: Yes, sir. [20:46] Aldur> X2> ::practically growls, then backs off, a very public display of emotion for Aldur:: [20:46] X2> ::looks over at Ironside, wondering what he said to piss off the admiral:: [20:47] E> There's basically no chance this'll work. All the virii on your list aren't Xur in origin. It'd be like a human catching murelan flu. [20:47] +taps+ Haste would be bad, Commander. Prepare a report for me tonight and I'll have an answer for you by morning [20:47] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:47] Aldur> X2> Now then, Captain Savant. I'll require quarters somewhere on the premises. I assume that someone has made arrangements for this? [20:47] E> +taps+ Yes, sir. [20:47] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:48] X2> ::Savant nodded placidly at Aldur:: Yes, Admiral. You're in fact not far away. I ensured that your qarters were made close to the command chamber. [20:48] ::leans back in her seat, their course true and sensors not picking up too much of interest at the moment:: [20:48] ::glances at her chronometer:: Ms. Brooks, results of the scans from I032 should be back and analyzed by now. What have we got? [20:48] E> True, but remeber when the white man came to in contact with the indians and alot of them died from virus' that didn't kill the ones that brought it to them. [20:48] Aldur> X2> Thank you, Captain. If you'll summon a yeoman to escort me, I believe I'll retire. I have... some decisions to make. [20:48] ::raises an eyebrow as the comm closes:: A tar na zee antibody hmm? [20:49] ::nods at Daren:: Possibly. It has merit. [20:49] E> ::looks at Farley again:: You're kidding. [20:49] E> They were both humans! [20:49] X2> ::She nodded:: Immediately, Admiral. I'll have any relevant new information sent to you "review pending" directory. Do have a good rest, Sir. [20:50] Aldur> X2> ::nods, spins on his heel, and exits, stage right:: [20:50] E> Humans can contract human diseases. Natives and conquerors on earth were the same bloody species! [20:50] X2> ::nods to Aldur as he leaves, then glances at Savant:: [20:50] X2> ::Savant lifted her head back up, giving Drexler a glance in return:: [20:50] E> No I'm not. Yes but this is a bio energy probably not ammune to anything this bad. It's worth a shot. [20:50] Merit? From the man who takes shuttles even when he's told "no?" [20:50] ::nods:: I hate to admit it myself, Commander. [20:50] X2> ::looks at Drexler:: He doesn't seem to like you much does he? ::then adds:: For a minute there I thought he was going to start in on me next. That would have been interesting. [20:51] =.\ction= Ship's condition is currently: Yellow Alert . [20:51] X2> ::once again glances at Ironside:: I'm not sure I even want to know what you guys talked about. ::shudders:: [20:51] E> Humans contracted animal infections all the time. A animal could have rabies and give it to a human. [20:51] E> Because humans and Earth animals share ancestors. [20:51] E> Show me the ancestor that we share with a bio-energy signature! [20:52] ::sighs, shaking her head:: Nothing in I032 at all [20:52] Passage.... [20:52] Just...nothing. Plain as could be. [20:52] E> I don't think it's that complicated doc. [20:52] X2> Another name for a passage is a "way" incidentally. [20:52] ::scowls a little:: Yes, thank you Savant.
