[19:06] SUMMARY: Battle lines. [19:06] Coronado has returned to the large nebula approximately 80 light-years "northwest" of Reor'sa. According to Savant's calculations, in a few days, a new anomaly will appear here. After a lengthy search, Coronado found the location the anomaly will appear in the nebula. [19:06] Unfortunately, the Xur had already reached the location and garrisoned it with at least six carriers and an unknown number of strike craft. Over the last few weeks, preliminary skirmishes have been taking place with the Xur forces attempting to reinforce the enemy position. [19:06] Also in the intervening weeks, a large Defender fleet has been gathered to confront the Xur main body. However, without false matter shields or false matter torpedoes, the Xur carrier group has the Defender group -- mostly smaller ships -- somewhat outgunned within the nebula itself... [19:06] Briefing complete. [19:06] * CRXO_Tal acknowledges with a crisp salute. [19:06] ack [19:06] ack [19:06] ack [19:06] ack [19:06] ack [19:06] ack [19:06] ack [19:06] ackety ack [19:06] ack [19:06] ack [19:07] Tonight, we reenact one of those preliminary skirmishes. As stated in the teaser, the Xur are using a number of newly formed (in the sense that they are a mere 50,000 years old or so) blue stars just outside the nebula. [19:08] They hop into these systems, then apparently use them as way-points to hop the rest of the distance into the nebula. We know the rift drive has a limited "range": usually on the order of 40 light-years or so (though the Pfhor can push it to 100). [19:08] ack [19:09] A number of the systems were mined, and the mined systems generally catch a carrier, but the Xur learn fast. However, we've also learned that they remain in these waypoint systems for as much as 8 minutes, recharging their rift drives for the next jump. [19:09] This gives the slipstream-capable ships like Coro a chance to slipstream into the system a minute or two after a carrier appears, and gives her and the support group with her about six minutes to take out the carrier and the associated fighters. [19:09] ::cracks knuckles:: [19:10] Any questions about the set-up? [19:10] ::mutters something about taking twice as long just to take out a few fighters, much less a carrier:: [19:11] Good. Second item. Last week, I asked for e-mails from people interested in doing tac sims based on this episode. I received only three responses. [19:11] ::blinks, remaining at attn:: [19:11] ::Arches eyebrow:: [19:11] ::glares at those who didn't respond:: [19:11] ::raises:: [19:11] I can do tac sims with three, but they're likely to be pretty short and brutal. ;) So, if you're still interested or you're interested but just didn't get around to sending me an e-mail, catch me afterwards and we can chat about it. I'm still interested in running them. [19:12] Commander Farley, a question? [19:12] Are we doing the tac sim tonight? I thought it was for another night other then Monady? [19:12] ::raises:: [19:13] It'll be for a day other than Monday. That's what I want to talk about after the sim tonight with those interested: what day we want to do it this week. [19:13] Commodore Daren? [19:13] thank you [19:13] ::raises:: What other ships do we have with which to form smaller "battlegroups" with? Part of Daren's plan for the main event consiste of sending groups out to different locations...including one with a Science vessel of some kind to attempt a 'psyops' type of mission... [19:14] Coronado is to head one of them...hopefully about 3-4 large ships per group and their allotment of fighters. [19:14] For tonight, Coronado's hunter-killer group will comprise Coro herself and four Furious class destroyer-escorts, with four more similar ships (Defiant IIs, Furious) in reserve for tougher engagements. [19:14] Similar hunter-killer groups have been formed around Vanguard, Destiny, and a couple of other ships. [19:14] ::nods:: Alrighty [19:14] The preliminary phase involves preventing reinforcements from reaching the Xur stronghold in the nebula. [19:15] Any other questions? [19:15] ::Raises:: [19:15] where is the flag staff currently stationed? ^_^ [19:15] Captain Savant (and welcome back, by the way). :) [19:16] and thank you ^_^ [19:16] What Flag Staff? ;) [19:16] okay. rephrase. where the hell am i? ^_^ [19:16] Aren't you everywhere? [19:16] Omnipresent I believe. Next question. [19:16] Shhh, fools! [19:16] so helpful you are :p [19:17] Long story. Short version: the flag staff scattered to the four winds in the weeks you've been gone. Captain Bentall is commanding Blackrazor (herself one of the reserve ships that can be called into an engagement). Captain Drexler is commanding Xanadu. General Ironside has the totality of the Defender ground forces (in this area to potentially capture Xur carriers, if it can be done safely). [19:17] Tebrun Lora Kor is retired, and is currently in a Wraith somewhere south and west of the nebula, waiting to be called in. He's flying that Wraith. [19:17] then Savant will be what's tying everyone together ^_^ [19:18] To an extent. Remember that ansible and subspace don't function within the nebula, but will work in the stellar nursery area just outside where the skirmishes are taking place. [19:18] well, then you guys are on your freakin own ^_^ [19:18] In a similar fashion, FM shields and weapons also function in this region. [19:18] * CPS3_Savant is now known as Savant [19:19] Any other questions [19:19] ? [19:20] ::raises:: [19:20] Commander Tal? [19:20] I believe you mentioned housekeeping chores last week, sir. But while you're up, Commodore Daren, step forward. [19:27] eh? ::steps forward:: [19:28] Commodore, I don't think I say enough about how appreciative I am of your help and support in running the Coronado sim. You are essentially Coro's second CO, without which the sim would not be nearly as fun or successful as it is. [19:28] Amen to that. [19:29] I object to him buttering me up... ::grins:: [19:29] And thank you. I do what I can. [19:29] What I can do is recognize you with the Atlas award for your outstanding contributions to the OOC operation of the Coronado sim, and the Pallas Medal, for your outstanding IC role-playing of the Commodore William Daren character. More than you know. I apologize if my harshness is coming across too strongly but I didn't like some of the things you did on Coro. I had no control there. I do here and I won't tolerate it. You understand so that's the last I'll bring it up. [19:49] ::glances down:: Got one. [19:49] Red Alert! All crew to battlestations! [20:22] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:22] =.\ction= Reports come back from Macarthur of the succesful capture of several of the Xur "survivors", if they could be called that, as they happen to be of the fleshy brain matter variety that no-one with an electronic device is likely going to want to approach. The marine transport withdraws from the system with her escort, returning towards the staging area. [20:23] E> How's the shields look? [20:23] <[L1SL_Somansky]> N1>::follows the Coro out:: [20:23] Now at the edge of the system... standing by... [20:23] ::nods at D'Rall:: [20:23] Razor> ::looks around:: Damage report? They don't see how we could make any attacks on the Xur home planet without being subverted ourselves, and want suggestions in that regard. [20:24] =.\ction= The Apori's battle seems to be going through a similar pattern to Coro's: an initial rift to clear any mine fields, followed by the emergence of three carriers. [20:27] =.\ction= The fighters left behind give chase, but the one thing the Xur fighters are not is particularly fast. They seem to have traded maneuverability and heavy weapons for speed. [20:27] +taps+ Aye, sir. We did have one of the Furious wing struck by a subversion sphere, Commodore. I tasked the rest of their wing to investigate the matter. [20:27] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:27] E>::glances at his consol:: Coming up on full now sir [20:27] X2> That's fairly straightforward, of what we know. [20:27] +taps+ Communications will be held to a minimum while in the nebula over coded frequencies. [20:27] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:27] E> Thank you. Have the sustainers cut out just as they reach the planet so they don't hit at warp speeds. [20:28] =.\ction= Coro's remaining three escorts clear the area around the ship struck with the subversion weapon, which has picked up a very familiar-looking hole through her outer hull. Presumably the subversion is within the vessel somewhere. [20:28] E> We made it through that one alright. Hopefully the next one goes the same way. [20:28] ::shakes his head:: But this assumes that the subverted Xur hold some value over the home planet - and that they would divert resources to protect it. [20:28] X2> ::nods:: that's along the lines I was thinking. I'll clear it with fleet command and see if we can get some elements put on the task. [20:37] [CoroLCARS SOUND] [20:37] X2> I agree, and I'm trying to push the issue. Coronado's got a new problem, but they seem to be doing okay so far. [20:37] ::sends the signal:: Good eye, Captain... [21:05] We all die horribly in utter failure. ;) [21:05] No. Just you die. ;-) [21:05] :) [21:05] Put together a real joint log of your plan, and hopefully send it out before Monday. [21:06] If you do it at least a day or two before the teaser comes out, I'll put the results into the teaser. [21:06] But yes, there are ship-building facilities in the Xur home system, though apparently not nearly enough of them to support a carrier fleet the size the Xur have apparently been deploying. There must be more of them somewhere. [21:06] Lieutenant Brooks? [21:07] Ahem.. ::saunters forward, smirking irreverently, and looking him up and down:: Tebrun, I do believe you are out of uniform... [21:07] ::pauses to consider this a moment, comes to a conclusion, then grimaces with a pained countenance:: DAMNIT! [21:07] ::sniffs under arms:: I just replicated this shirt yesterday. [21:07] ::steeples her fingers in front of her:: Well, suffice it to say, if indeed you ever were to use your old uniform, it would be proper if you had these. ::produces a box:: [21:07] ::wolf whistles:: [21:07] ::straightens:: Rear Admiral Tebrun Lora Kor, on behalf of the Eigth Fleet, and the delayed command team of the USS Coronado, it is my sincere pleasure to offer you a promotion to the rank of Vice Admiral. We wouldn't want Pete to outrank you by too much, mind... [21:08] ::claps and cheers raucously:: [21:08] ::applauds:: [21:08] ::applauds and cheers:: [21:08] ::applauds:: [21:08] ::claps:: [21:08] ::applauds:: [21:08] ::applauds:: [21:08] ::hoots and hollers:: [21:08] Who you callin' "delayed command team" missy?! ::grins and applauds:: [21:08] ::applauds and nods:: [21:08] ::claps loudly:: [21:08] ::claps:: [21:08] ::chuckles:: Thank you, and thank you everyone. I appreciate that. A little late for Tebrun, but maybe I'll transfer the rank over to Brian Aldur. He isn't terminally ill. ;) [21:10] You won't be able to take it with you, where you're going, anyway. [21:10] <> [21:10] ::clears throat:: Right. Any final questions? [21:10] Great. Commodore, your crew. :) Nice job again everyone! [21:10] LCARS, we're done... [21:10] * CoroLCARS =/\= CMCO_Daren has called: Company, at ease! =/\= [21:10] * CoroLCARS changes topic to '=/\= U.S.S.
