[18:15] 12Stardate 239908.29: "Illusion Weavers" , Part 1, by Jester. [18:15] 12SUMMARY: Not only can the Killers destroy planets, they can also create them... [18:15] 12Three weeks have passed since the murder of the Zadar system. In the intervening time, the science and engineering teams have made little progress in understanding the self-replicating machine captured in that system before Coronado departed. However, Lt. Trq did devise a means of determining a basic chemical trace for it. [18:15] 12In theory, using this chemical trace, a starship's sensors should be able to scan for a matching trace in a star. Since the original machine had to be manufactured somewhere, and that somewhere would contain these traces, by scanning for this trace pattern, theoretically, we can learn where the original machine was built. [18:15] 12Coronado transmitted the appropriate trace signature to the rest of Starfleet, and six hours ago, we received a report from the U.S.S. Triton. This ship, a Nova-class science survey vessel, recently scanned the MJ-1020 star and found a match for the machine's chemical trace. Coronado is currently en route for this system. [18:37] SL1> Should we try opening it up Commander? ::shoots an enquiring look at Tal:: [18:37] <<"Open the pod bay doors, Tal." "I can't do that Major." ;) >> [18:37] ::dedicates a pallette to the study of the rings and to watch for reactions:: [18:38] 12=.\ction= The Spectres howl out of the shuttlebay, rocketing over the Bridge and heading in toward a blue- ocean world... [CoroLCARS SOUND] [18:38] <> [18:38] ::nods:: Aye ::begins moving the ship forward at 1/16th impulse:: [18:38] Well, MR. Dalton, it would be much apprecated [18:38] +taps+ Bentall to Sickbay. We need a med tech to have a look at some minor burns down here. [CoroLCARS SOUND] [18:38] ::frees up the targetting protocol, letting it scan the area and automatically pick up targets, while he readies a couple different patterns:: [18:38] +taps+ Bental, on my way [CoroLCARS SOUND] [18:38] 12=.\ction= The Marines in the SciLab shuffle about uncomfortably, but Tal quells their anxiety - for the moment. [18:38] sorry Mr.Dalton i'll have to get a rain check on that [18:39] M> ::frowns:: So I see. [18:39] M> ::shrugs, picking up a medkit:: I'll join you. [18:39] ::sets up his console to display the accumulated data from the Spectres, combining all the fighters' sensor readings into a single, easy to read display:: [18:39] SL1> ::waits for a response to his question about trying to open the machine up:: [18:39] ::leans forward, watching the Spectres go in:: Stay sharp, everyone. Full telemetry from the fighters, Major? [18:39] M> I'm not only a bartender, I happen to be the best medic aboard as well. [18:39] ::grabs a med kit and rushes out with Mr. Dalton at her side:: [18:39] ::Savant's data padd flickers into being once more, and she looks over it with mild interest:: [18:39] well i'll have to arm wresle you over that title [18:39] ::nods:: I am receiving. [18:40] ::finishes, then checks on the targetting returns, watching the scanners closely:: [18:40] SL1> ::looks at her burnt fingers:: I imagine that you gentlemen are correct about this being the brain center; it is quite well protected - you may open it up, Mr. Bentall. But be carefull... [18:40] Spectres now thirty seconds from recon point one. ::watches his console intently for any sign of reaction:: [18:40] ::nods and glances over his shoulder at Savant:: Savant, monitor the lifesigns of the pilots. If their ships start to come apart on them, handle their beamouts yourself. [18:40] ::heads to the turbo lift:: Science Lab One [18:40] Captain, this situation with the planet's got me stumped. Our sensors confirm that every reading we're getting is solid. No holoprojections, thoron fields or duranium shadows... No force beams, no light, heat or motion spectral anomalies... It's almost as if we were looking at some dimensional overlap. [18:40] ::begins humming again quietly, a concerto this time:: Certainly Captain. [18:40] SL1> ::shoves her fingers back into her mouth:: [18:40] ::nods at Trq:: Understood, Lieutenant. Continue to monitor... [18:41] ::the Turbo lift doors open:: I'm sorry i'm not sure who Betall is but i'm the new Doctor ::holds up med kit:: [18:41] SL1> ::nods:: I'll remove what appears to be the non protected parts first to be on the safe side. ::places his tool kit on the table and opens it up, removing a small plasma cutter he begins to cut away the exterior housing:: [18:41] 12=.\ction= The Spectres cross the boundary of the ring and start to circle just inside it, their defensive systems operating... [CoroLCARS SOUND] [18:41] ::console bleeps loudly, protesting something:: Captain, reading a massive change in the planet's makeup - It's... It's just changed into a class 2 neutron star... [18:41] Lieutenant, it's quite possible that the planet is changing. [18:41] 12=Description= There is a brilliant flash of white light that lasts only a fraction of a second... [18:41] ::shifts in his seat imperceptibly as his console beeps:: Thunderbirds now on course for reconnoiter point two. They are within the circumfrence of the... [18:41] ::console bleeps again:: [18:41] ::blinks:: Everyone catch that? [18:42] ::stands up:: Pull them back! [18:42] ::points out Bentall to Dakota:: That's him over there. The Chief Engineer. [18:42] ::winces, then checks the scanners for targets:: [18:42] And... It just reverted back to the original appearance. [18:42] 12=Description= ...before the planet changes form back to the a rock and ice ball. [18:42] SL1> Doctor, I am Lt. Cmdr. Tal - ::shows her burnt fingers:: [18:42] SL1> Well met Lieutenant. I'm Jarod Bentall. I don't need the help Commander Tal does. ::indicates Commander Tal with a toss of his head and a smile while continuing to cut:: [18:42] oh thank you Mr. Dalton [18:42] ::frowns, then resets his console:: All four Spectres are intact....no damage. My readings from #3 are very unusual, however. [18:42] ::assists Bentall:: [18:42] Thank you, [18:42] <> [18:42] Damage reports incominc. Mild radiation injuries in the fore section of the ship. the Spectre pilots will need to be treated for radiation poisoning. [18:43] ::looks over to the holographic tank:: Okay... Now, I'm going to take a nice look at the sensor readings here... ::a little shaken:: [18:43] Hello Tal [18:43] ::heads for the Mission Ops chair and looks over Ironside's shoulder:: Bring them back, hold at 100,000 kilometers. [18:43] Squadron now exiting the circumfrence of the ring...... [18:43] ::nods:: Doctor... [18:43] SL1> ::almost has the first layer cut off:: When this cuts through Ensign be prepared to carry it out of the way. [18:43] ::turns to look at Trq:: Full scan of our fighters, Lieutenant. [18:43] ::shuts down those sensors which were damaged by the flare of radiation:: [18:43] Aye Sir. [18:43] ::gets out her tisue regenrator and moves it over Tal's fingers:: Quite a burn you have there [18:43] ::says to nobody in particular:: Well, we got a reaction. But what kind? [18:43] Sir, should I halt our movement forward? [18:43] SL> Are you sure it's wise to be opening that, Mr. Bentall? ::indicates the machine: [18:44] ::turns to Dejat and nods:: All stop, Helm. Distance? [18:44] ::poises his hand over the console:: [18:44] ::nods and frowns internally, not enjoying having his work looked at over his shoulder, but continues to monitor:: The sensor from readings from Thunderbird 03 seem to be..... [18:44] ::frowns:: Shifting in and out of this dimension.... [18:44] ::disengages the engines:: 1.9 million kilometers. [18:44] Probability analysis woudl show that the action was a hostile and intentional one if the changes are being made intentionally at all, Captain. [18:44] ::switches to the starboard sensor arrays:: +com+ Don't worry, TBs... Just checking you out. [CoroLCARS SOUND] [18:44] 12=Description= The panel that Bentall is working on comes off without incident; the insides glitter before them. [18:44] SL> ::grins at Dalton while cutting:: No idea Mr. Dalton. But we'll find out soon enough. [18:44] Well Comander, your fingers might be stiff for a few days, but after that they'll be good as new, how do they feel now? [18:44] ::console beeps that irritating beep once more:: [18:44] 12=.\ction= As the Spectres come in, it is clear that there's something amiss with one of them. Tiny sparkles of light flicker along the edges of its hull and shields. [18:45] SL1> ::wiggles her fingers:: Quite well, thank you , Doctor. [18:45] <> [18:45] ::analyses the unusual spectre:: [18:45] I'm reading some sort of interspacial phasing emanating from... Spectre 3's hull. [18:45] ::smiles at Comander Tal:: your welcome, anything I can do [18:45] SL> ::runs his tricorder over the insides:: Wow. This thing is still emitting powerful energy readings. They appear to be electronic shileding. The rest of this is going to be a little tougher then I thought. I need to figure out where the power supply is. [18:45] I recommend that Spectre Three be denied docking until further analysis is complete, Captain. [18:45] ::walks away from the XO and next to Mr. Dalton talking to Bentall:: [18:45] ::maximizes the readings on Thunderbird 03:: Sir.....Corporal Freeman's hull has experienced a 5% loss of hull integrity. That number is climbing. [18:45] ::nods:: Agreed, Savant. See to it, Major. ::turns to Trq:: Source? [18:46] ::takes a look at the findings over bental's shoulder:: [18:46] ::looks back over his shoulder:: The fighter will disintegrate in approximately 45 minutes. [18:46] Unknown, sir. Attempting to define... [18:46] SL1> ::smiles at Dakota:: No, this is more of an engineering matter; unless you know how to field repair a phaser, this might not be a good time to get to know this thing... ::indicates the device:: [18:46] ::nods:: We've got some time, then. [18:46] ::prepares a transporter lock on the pilot of Spectre 3 and a stasis pod in the event that she must be beamed over:: [18:46] ::is attempting to follow the goings-on behind him, but is rather intent on making sure a target doesn't escape his watch:: [18:46] Understod, i'll stay to what i know [18:46] ::Starts looking over the divice for any other such site or any type of weapon:: [18:47] 12=.\ction= The Spectres come to a halt -- the flickering light along Spectre 3's hull looks like chain lightning. It flickers and dances across the entire fighter. [18:47] SL> ::pauses a moment before continuing:: The trick is to disable the shielding without destroying the control centre of this thing. Any ideas? ::looks at the others:: [18:47] ::pattern analyzer starts going crazy over his left hand:: Wha... [18:47] SL1> ::to Tal:: You must admit, Commander, it is quite intriguing, almost like unwrapping a gift on one's birthday. [18:47] ::frowns:: Sir, the telemetry from Spectre 03 is becoming out of phase..... [18:47] 12=Description= The insides of the Killer device flicker, like the inside of a positronic brain... [18:47] ::studies the Spectre in his own realtime video feed window on his console:: Interesting... [18:47] This looks vaguely like the Genesis Wave... [18:47] SL1> ::nods:: Indeed... [18:47] ::spins in his chair:: Captain, I think you should have a look at this. [18:47] ::perks up:: Genesis? [18:48] ::crosses over to the Science station:: What have you got, Lieutenant? [18:48] SL1> ::to Bentall:: I assume you do not wish to power it down? [18:48] ::raises his hand to his ear, where a micro- earpiece delivers a message from Corporal Freeman:: Sir, the pilot is reporting he is in pain. He describes it as a sharp burning sensation along his epidermis. [18:48] Agreed, Lieutenant Trq. There is a correlation between these events and the Genesis Project, certainly. [18:48] ::smiles inwardly:: {'Bout time I made a correct comparison.} [18:48] The matter-energy composition of Spectre 3... And it's occupant... It's reorganizing at the subatomic level. [18:48] Reorganizing? Into what? [18:48] SL1> ::has a sudden thought:: You know I did a course on positronic nets. This looks very much like that Android Admiral's net. What's his name again? Data or somthing like it? I wonder if looking over his scematics would help any? [18:48] Unable to... ... [18:48] ... [18:49] it woudl appear that any who enter within the range of the shifting plannet are shifted along with it. [18:49] Sir, it appears that Spectre Three is converting itself into antimatter. [18:49] ::suddenly goes pale:: [18:49] SL1> ::shrugs:: What I know about cybernetics is enough to fill a shot glass. [18:49] ::raises an eyebrow:: That would certainly explain the antineutronium. [18:49] ::looks over at Traqzis, then back at Savant:: Beam the corporal out of there. [18:49] SL1> ::looks up:: it may be intellagent... [18:49] And you know how to reverse it... right? [18:49] ::looks down:: You can't sir. [18:49] ::turns:: Belay that order, Savant. [18:49] ::targets the thenderbird quietly, just as a precaution:: [18:49] He's also been affected. [18:49] SL1> ::looks up from his thoughts:: Power the defensive side of it down but not the thinking or control side down. That could cause it to lose any info it has that would help us locate their origins:: [18:49] ::looks back at Traqzis:: What do you mean, we can't? [18:49] ::beams the corporal into a stasis pod, where th degradation will stop - for a time, hoefully:: [18:49] ::turns to the Major:: You can't transport antimatter, Major. [18:50] SL1> ::nods:: It's too simplistic to be intelligent, I think - perhaps... perhaps it is a node of a larger neural net? [18:50] ((You can't? Whoops)) [18:50] ::turns to regard Ironside:: The Corporal is also being reorganized into antimatter. [18:50] 12=.\ction= Savant's transporter beam tries to lock onto the Corporal, and fails. [18:50] ::carries out the order:: [18:50] <> [18:50] <> [18:50] All attemtps to transport the Corporal have failed, Sir. [18:51] <> [18:51] I recommend that we project a stasis field around the degrading Spectre as we study the problem further. [18:51] <> [18:51] <> [18:51] ::watches intently tat the scanners:: [18:51] <> [18:51] SL1> Its creators have shown a certain penchant for the diabolical. I wouldn't be so easily convinced that this device is benign and unsentient. [18:51] ::spins his chair around the watch the rest of the bridge:: [18:51] SL1> Possibly Commander but regardless it still has info we need. The trick is how to get it to lower it's defenses. [18:51] ::turns to Savant:: How will that help? [18:51] << Also, if it could be transported, it could be replicated - which it can't >> [18:52] it will perhaps hald the degradation and give us time to consider options and possibly find a solution, sir. [18:52] 12=.\ction= The Marines in the SciLab begin to move about uneasily as the lights in the device begin to blink faster and fast, in new and varied patterns. [18:52] ::turns to Trq:: Can we project a stasis field outside the ship? [18:52] SL1> That's odd... [18:52] SL1> Computer, relay all known information on positronic nets to the Science Lab Console. Specifically info on electronic and defensive shielding. [18:52] Theoretically sir... But I'm uncertain as to whether or not it would have any effect. [18:52] SL1> ::raises an eyebrow:: Mr. Bentall, I would suggest shutting this thing down again as soon as possible. [18:52] ::nods:: Let's try it. [18:53] there are no records if it either failing or succeeding, unfortunately. [18:53] Yes sir. ::begins making the preparations:: [18:53] ::nods his approval, not wanting to leave his man sitting there while he converts into antimatter:: [18:53] ::watches curiously:: [18:53] SL1> ::looks up at the sudenly fearful marines and then at the machine as if seeing it for the first time:: Agreed Mr. Dalton. [18:53] SL1>+taps+ Tal to Captain - sir... the device is reacting oddly to our investigations... [CoroLCARS SOUND] [18:53] +allcall+ All senior staff to the Bridge, on the double. [CoroLCARS SOUND] [18:53] ::floats down to the command station:: Captain, I believe at this point that it would be prudent to assume that these changes are intentional and hostile in nature. [18:53] +taps+ Acknowledged, Commander. Lock it back down. We have another problem. [CoroLCARS SOUND] [18:53] SL1> ::raises a brow:: The captain certainly has bad timing. [18:53] SL1> ::nods at Bentall:: Shut it down - let's get to the bridge. [18:54] SL1> i belive that to be a good idea... [18:54] SL1> ::looks the device down in a stasis field and heads to the TL, looking at the marines he adds:: It's ok again boys. ::grinning as he exits the lab:: [18:54] I don't know that this is a hostile-action response. Perhaps this is where the anti-neutronium is created... [18:54] ::turns to Savant:: I'd say you're right. Red alert! Mr. Dejat, back us off -- 5 million kilometers from the planet. Major, have... ::pauses:: all four Spectres follow us. [18:54] 12=.\ction= The automatic klaxon sounds as the ship's alert status changes to 4,1 red . [CoroLCARS SOUND] [18:54] SL1> ::turns to Kosh:: Ensign, I want you to keep an eye on this thing and on those Marines while we report to Commander Lora... [18:54] ::nods, changing alert status and brings the weapons to their fully standby:: [18:54] ::follows the mass to the TL:: [18:54] ::enters TL:: Bridge [CoroLCARS SOUND] [18:55] ::nods:: Aye sir ::relays the orders and resets his telemetry links with the Spectres:: [18:55] in all the transpormations tha thte planet has taken, they have been benign. Only in actions where we have moved to investigate hove our personnel and equipment been harmed. [18:55] ::turns to Trq:: As soon as we're in position, initiate the stasis field. [18:55] SL1> I want to be notified if anything happens while we are away... [18:55] ::spins around and performs a similar, high-g maneuver with the ship, blasting back 5 million kilometers and full impulse, then slowing:: [18:55] Captain, we're green on the statis field. Initiating now. [18:55] ::flutters his fingertips over the console and hits the activate key:: [18:55] ::motions to Dakota for her to follow him towards the observation lounge:: [18:55] 12=.\ction= The stasis field snaps out of one of the tractor emitters... it is quite unstable, but at least the fighter is still there... [CoroLCARS SOUND] [18:55] ::arrives on the bridge and immediatly relieves the young engineer at the engineering station while trying to catch up on the goings on:: [18:55] *> ::Leaves the SciLab and enters the TL:: [18:55] ::focuses intently on the stasis field and its effect:: [18:55] ::stays in the sci lab:: [18:55] bridge [18:56] <> [18:56] ::follows Mr Dalton:: [18:56] ::says to noone in particular:: Any reason we can't recover Spectres 1, 2, and 4? [18:56] Running passive scans on Spectre 3, Captain... [18:56] none which we know of, Sir. [18:56] TL> ::enters the turbolift and gives the command as soon as Dakota steps in:: Bridge. [18:56] ::looks at his readings:: The other Spectres read as normal sir. [18:56] I concur with Savant... Nothing out of the ordinary came up on scans. [18:56] SL1> ::starts looking over the Positronic data on a screen:: [18:56] ::steps onto the bridge:: [18:57] ::nods:: Bring them back. Full biofilter runs on all four pilots, and quarantine them for 48 hours. [18:57] +taps+ Bridge to Dr. Dakota. [CoroLCARS SOUND] [18:57] ::prepares the quarters of the three pilots for full quarantine:: [18:57] TL> ::stops on the bridge and he and Dakota emerge from the lift:: [18:57] +taps+ Dr. Dakota here [18:57] ::nods and alerts the flight deck to prepare for full quarantine procedures, giving the Spectres clearance to land:: [CoroLCARS SOUND] [18:57] ::calls one of the Mariens to come help him with somehting:: [18:58] +taps+ Doctor, we're bringing three pilots aboard that might have been subjected to some kind of alien... alteration. I need you to conduct full physicals on them and report back to me. Coordinate with Savant, but you'll find them in quarantine. [18:58] Captain shall I have an engineering team go over the fighters? [CoroLCARS SOUND] [18:58] ::Savant floats back into the corner of the room, where she waits patiently:: [18:58] ::turns to Bentall and nods:: Good idea. See to it. [18:58] Marine1> yeah what do you need [18:58] ::walks over to Lora, indicating her burnt fingers:: That thing burnt the hell out of my fingers... [18:58] ::Looks at MR. Dalton:: Well, back to the sickbay for me [18:58] ::grumbles to herself:: [18:58] hold this here ::hands him a scannoing divice:: [18:58] Belay that, Commander. It's big friend out there converted one of our pilots into antimatter. [18:59] ::sends of a few commands to Ensign Titan in engineering to go over the fighters with a fine tooth comb:: [18:59] ::looks around the assembled group:: I need options, people. We have to find a way to convert him back. Let's hear some ideas. [18:59] ::turns back into the turbolift:: are you going to join me Mr. Dalton? [18:59] ::raises an eye brow:: Surely you're not serious, sir! [18:59] ::looks over to the Captain, then Ironside:: [18:59] It appears the stasis field is holding him... Somewhat. [18:59] ::shakes his head:: I think I'll stay here for now, doctor. I'm sure you can do fine on your own. [18:59] Sir, we need more information on how he was converted in the first place. I suggest sending a probe into the ring. [18:59] ::turns back to Tal:: Deadly serious. <> Lieutenant Trq, how long would you say the pilot has to live? [18:59] Alright, Sickbay [19:00] ::looks over at Traqzis:: Perhaps the more sensitive sensors will provide a glimpse into the process. [19:00] It's not perfect, but we've managed to extend his... Remaining lifespan... By about threefold. [19:00] ::looks stunned:: Converted him to antimatter?? ::starts thinking over what he knows of antimatter:: [19:00] <> [19:00] ::nods:: OK, two and a half hours, at most. Options, people. [19:00] No standard procedure is availible in the database, Captain. This situation has never been confronted before. I would suggest taht the engineering department begin to search for a way to transport the pilot on board and reverse the spin of his associated particles in the process. [19:00] Possibly, but they might also cause interference with the field, sir. [19:00] ::steps down to her seat:: [19:00] <> [19:00] ::looks around seeking data:: What caused the transformation? Anyone know? [19:00] SL1> no!!, here ::moves the marine's hand holding the scanner:: [19:00] Anti-matter? How can a person be converted to anti- matter? [19:01] ::enters sickbay and awaits the pilots arival:: [19:01] Mr. Trq, play back the sensor logs for Bentall and the XO. [19:01] that question is still up for debate, Commander Tal. [19:01] That planet ::points to the holographic tank:: Seems to have some unique properties, as I'll demonstrate. [19:01] ::turns to Savant:: Savant, full records search, and link us to whatever the closest Federation Archive is. [19:01] ::moves over to Trq's console to have a look:: [19:01] ::runs the sensor logs on a splitscreen section on the main holographic tank:: [19:01] 12=.\ction= The device in the SciLab ... flashes once, then again, then it flickers out and grows silent. [19:01] I anticipated the need, Captain, so I have already made Alpha Memory of the Federation availible to all the Bridge Staff on their terminals. [19:01] ::heads for Tactical:: Mr. Drexler, any reaction? [19:02] ::watches the logs with interest:: [19:02] ::looks back at the Captain:: Sir, I strongly recommend sending a probe through on the exact course of Thunderbird 03. [19:02] ::glances over his shoulder at Savant and nods:: [19:02] It appears as if that burst of radiation may be responsible for the transformation. [19:02] I would agree with Major Ironside. [19:02] ::then turns to Ironside and does the same:: Do it. Same course, same everything. Route the telemetry back here. [19:02] See, at this point here, the planet momentarily becomes what appears to be a neutron star... Incredibly small, incredibly dense... [19:02] ::watches the log intently:: [19:02] ::goes to quarnteen area:: [19:02] ::hesitates to take his watch off of the sensors, but turns to Lora:: Nothing of tactical importance at the moment, sir. I'm wondering about that ring of neutronium around the place, though. [19:02] ::opens a log for the probe telemetry:: [19:03] ::watches as the Machine almost comes to life:: Marine what did you do!!!! [19:03] ::leans back in her seat:: [19:03] ::turns to the tank:: Can you determine its purpose, Lieutenant? [19:03] +taps+ Tal- uhhh... Commander i think you should get down here... [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:03] It appears to me that his transformation is linked to the ongoing changing of the planet. Would pushing what's left of him towards the planet not cause him to change again? Possibly to his opriginal form? [19:03] ::nods and turns back to his console, tapping quickly, but not hurriedly, making sure not to jeopradize the life of his marine:: [19:03] It certainly doesn't seem to have launched machines at us. [19:03] Captain, your search results retrned thirteen thousand entries. Displaying items one through twenty on your terminal. [19:03] Only so far as I've already guessed, sir... [19:03] It's unfortunately all form the theoretical sciences magazines. [19:03] 12=.\ction= The Marines level their phasers at the device, ready to destroy it if it moves again. [19:03] ((from, even)) [19:03] ::considers it:: Defense system, power source... [19:03] ::turns to Savant, amusement fighing annoyance on his features:: Thank you, Savant. Time to expand your programming. Since you can search them much faster than I... [19:04] ::frowns:: +taps+ What is it, Ensign? [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:04] What possible use could anyone have for converting matter into antimatter on such a large scale. [19:04] ::moving down near Lora:: Oh, I would say converting our crewmen into antimatter is a rather hostile act. [19:04] We haven't really done anything that would harm it yet, sir. [19:04] ... Except to convert large objects into large antimatter objects. [19:04] ::readies the probe and routes the telemetry and sensor controls to Traqzis:: To prepare another anti-matter neutronium needle.... [19:04] ::nods at Dalton, hearing him vaguely:: [19:04] ::nods at Dalton, then turns back to Drexler:: Hell of a source of energy, in any case. [19:04] ::looks at Lora:: I tend to agree with Mr. Dalton on that point Captain. [19:04] There is little of use here, Captain. There are several theoretical papers duiscussing teh conversion of matter to antimatter with radiation fields. [19:04] ::begins running a ful physical over the first pilot:: [19:05] ::looks at Savant:: Anything that's not theoretical? That's what we need here. [19:05] unfortunately not, Sir. [19:05] ::looks back at Tactical:: Lieutenant Drexler, please launch the probe in torpedo bay tube one. ::looks at Traqzis:: If you would monitor the sensor readings.... [19:05] ::nods and continous to think things over in his head:: [19:05] Of course. Telemetry feed on Science I. [19:05] ::frowns, then turns back to the Captain again:: Commander? [19:05] Ready for launch. [19:06] ::nods at Ironside, then Drexler:: Deploy the probe. [19:06] ::looks at Ironside peculiarly, then fires the loaded probe:: [19:06] ::shakes her head at the radiation poisining she's finding here:: [19:06] 12=.\ction= The probe streaks away and heads for a gray metal world. [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:06] +taps+ Dakota to Savant [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:06] ::returns to his seat:: [19:06] +taps+ Tal- The seemed to come alive for a moment... [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:06] ::watches the probe speed away from the Coro:: well, this should prove interesting... [19:06] <> [19:06] <> [19:06] Captain... A theory... [19:06] ::looks up, but her voice doesn't come from the bridge - it instead filters down to where the Doctor is:: Do you need assistance, Doctor? [19:07] ::looks over at Bentall:: Lieutenant....we are able to produce antimatter onboard using intense subspace driver coils, correct? Fields that delve into the subspace domain of a particle of matter and 'flip' it's charge? [19:07] Well, either we're going to have an antimatter probe, or it's going to ignore it. Either way... ::nods:: interesting. [19:07] ::goes pale:: +taps+ are you sure, ensign? [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:07] ::turns to Trq:: Go. [19:07] ::grins:: Last time I looked Major. Why? [19:07] yes if that is at all possible [19:07] Perhaps the closer the proximity to the planet when the neutron flash occurs, the more quickly the object is converted to antimatter... [19:07] ::nods pleasantly to all those on teh bridge, and flashes out of being, only to reappear beside the Doctor:: [19:07] Would we be able to expand the process to do the same thing for those atoms of Corporal Freeman? [19:07] Well if THAT'S true, let's not get near it, hmm? [19:07] Yess, Doctor? How may I help you? [19:07] +taps+ tal- if you dont believe me you can ask the Marine's here with the phasers pointed at it... [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:08] ::turns to Bentall:: Did you secure the device as I ordered? [19:08] hello Savant, the captian said you might be able to help me out with these three pilots [19:08] 12=.\ction= The probe streaks just inside the neutronium ring... [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:08] ::moves close to Tal:: Yes, of course he did. Why do you think Mr. Kosh is so worried? I'd really suggest you do as he asks and go down there. [19:08] If this were the case, we'd have to consider the possibility that this is some sort of... Antimatter-conversion matrice designed for production. [19:08] ::thinks it over:: We might but I'm not sure how to go about it outside the ship. ::turns to Tal:: Yes Sir. Locked it down and placed it under a level ten stasis field. [19:09] 12=.\ction= ...where nothing whatsoever happens. The probe continues its flight. The planet changes to a bustling cityscape. [19:09] I can provide you with the scan reports and all availible theory on the matter. Tehy've been exposed to a as-of-yet unknown phenomenon [19:09] 12=.\ction= The Marines grow more tense as Kosh seems to grow frantic about the device's earlier movement. [19:09] they are all suffering from radation posioning [19:09] ::frowns:: Then we need to find a way to get the Corporal back on the ship, safely. [19:09] Pilot three has been turned into antimatter, these others have not. We're uncertain as to whether that is an eventuality or not. [19:09] ::looks up at Bentall:: Then why did ensign Kosh report that it seemed to come back to life a moment ago? [19:09] ... Perhaps we missed the critical point in the sequence, Captain. [19:09] they were exposed to a radiation burst form a neutron star, Doctor. [19:10] ::nods grimly:: Or maybe it's not interested in a live target. [19:10] turned into antimatter? is that theoreticly possible? [19:10] Actually Major. We could convert him back but he'd be a dead pile of mush. [19:10] ::crosses his arms:: Perhaps that's why he wants you to view it for yourself. [19:10] whether it is theoretically possible yet is unknown; we are quite sure that it is practically possible, however. [19:10] ::heads back for his chair:: Rotate the probe 90 degrees downward and cut its power. [19:10] the pilot is being held in a stasis field outside of the ship for the moment. [19:10] ::frowns imperceptibly:: Very well.....thank you Lieutenant. [19:10] Mr. Dejat, close range view on the tank. Let's see that probe. [19:11] ::nods at Dalton:: Captain, I shall be in Science Lab 1 again - there seems to be some sort of trouble... [19:11] ::eyes narrow as his thoughts parallel the Captain's:: [19:11] ::turns in his chair to view the holotank:: [19:11] ::nods, zooming in:: [19:11] ::turns and nods at Tal:: Go ahead. [19:11] ::looks over at Tal again trying to keep the annoyance out of his face:: I have no idea Commander. Unless he took the field down. [19:11] ::sighs and head for the TL:: Science Lab 1 [19:11] ::nods her head:: Well, can we set up something simular i the sickbay so that I could better treat them? [19:11] ::shakes his head as he whispers to Bentall, indicating Tal:: Sometimes following protocol strictly is not a blessing. [19:11] *> ::enters SL1:: [19:12] 12=.\ction= Power is cut to the probe, and without thrusters, it arcs down and enters the atmosphere of the cityscape planet. A moment later, a phaser-like beam lances up, destroying it. [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:12] certainly, I'll have the stasis field projectors beamed into Operating Room One for you ^_^ [19:12] ::watches the tactical sensors, but glancing at the probe on the viewer:: [19:12] What the... [19:12] 12=.\ction= A second or two later, the planet changes into the jungle. [19:12] Well...that doesn't seem very welcoming now does it? [19:12] So we know they posses beam weaponry.... [19:12] ::nods:: Yep. The ensign is overreacting to nothing I belive. But I'm not going to argue with her about it. [19:12] <> [19:12] No. We know that particular planet possesses weaponry. [19:12] SL1> ::Crosses the room angrily, stepping right up to the device:: Get those Marines out of here... [19:12] ::waves one hand at the jungle world:: What about all the others? [19:13] What about that neutron star? [19:13] All the other ... what? [19:13] SL1> ::puts her hands on her hips defiantly staring at the Killer device:: [19:13] What indeed.....::eyes the planet as it shifts again:: [19:13] ::runs both hands through his hair:: Drop to yellow alert. Mr. Dejat, give us an orbit at five million kilometers. [19:13] 12=.\ction= The automatic alert warning sounds as the ship's alert status changes to 8,1 yellow . [CoroLCARS SOUND] [19:13] Savant, is there any papers or information you could get me on a way to reverse what has happened to pilot three [19:13] ::changes alert status quickly:: [19:13] SL1> ::already backed away from it:: what should we do with it?? [19:14] ::looks at the planet a sudden thought occuring:: It's almost like a civillazation based on nano probes. Changing faster then we can keep up with. [19:14] ::nods, moving the ship in to 5 million:: [19:14] ::turns:: Tactical, Science: I want to know every planet that thing cycles through, including full scans of each one's possible lifeforms as they pass. [19:14] Captain, surely you don't believe the planet itself is changing? It's probably just some sort of holographic ruse. [19:14] I want to know which planets react and which don't. [19:15] certainly. Is that all, Doctor? [19:15] ::turns to Dalton and shakes his head:: We know it isn't holographic, and that phaser was certainly real enough. [19:16] Captain, if we could reprogram that machine in Science Lab 1, we could use it as a decoy probe. The planet may accept it and allow it to approach. Just a thought. [19:16] The space around the planet is also reflecting the changes... Gravitational wells, atmospheric layers... [19:16] ::turns back to Dalton:: Presumably, the rock ball wouldn't have weapons. That's always been a motto to live by. [19:17] ::turns to Bentall and nods:: Keep in mind, though, that saving that Corporal's life is our top priority for now. [19:17] Captain, I've three programmed. Should I finish the rest and launch all of them in succession, or launch 'em as they're ready? [19:17] Whatever is going on, what we're seeing out there it's real enough for me. [19:17] 12=.\ction= The Killer device emits a high- pitched whine.
