The Ready Room was at its new signature darkness, just the way Daren liked it now. Just enough to see everything in the room once his eyes adjusted and to allow the natural star light through to gently glaze the interior walls. Out the large floor-to-cieling windows there appreared to be a new star, but it wasn't a star at all. More like a starship. USS Renegade hovered strongly and silently and its signature Federation glow added to the richness of the darkened room. Daren also noticed that looking out the window was not akin to looking into a stellar looking glass as the fellow Katana class held its station. Looking at the small terminal on his desk, Daren knew the next few words out of his mouth were going to feel strange, and yet, they had to be said. He tapped a key on the terminal and spoke: "Captain's Log, Stardate 240207.01; As I stare out on the stars of Pfhor space and this vastly unknown Galaxy, I feel myself wondering what the sunset on Reorsa must be like tonight, and if I will ever see it again. The planet has become the closest thing this fleet has had to a home planet, and with the deadline with the Pfhor all but passed, Coronado has assembled here." His eyes passed once again to the window. "Hidden near a nebula in Pfhor space, designated for now, 'Staging Ground Alternate 1'. Our objective: deliver a parting shot of sorts to the Pfhor. A message that can't be translated by any computer, yet universally understood." "For hours, I've had my Tactical staff pouring over the Taer Intelligence Reports on 'Pearce', the name given to the Pfhor planet where the outpost we have been ordered to raid and destroy is located. Defenses will be minimal by all accounts and this mission should be fairly routine as we are not expected and we will be evenly matched if not have an actual advantage tactically. I never thought I'd hear myself say THAT. 'Advantage' and 'Pfhor' just never seemed right in the same sentence." "There is one thing that concerns me, however. It is not publicly know on the ship, but my close working relationship with the Commodore and his Task Group Staff has let me in a bit on a second operation being conducted during the raid. A Team being assembled to bring something back from the outpost. Something that may make more sentences with the words 'Advantage' and 'Pfhor' more prevalent..." Daren silently tapped the same function to end the log recording and closed his eyes momentarily in silent anticipation. ------------------------------------------- Captain William Daren Commanding Officer USS Coronado NCC-97901 Flag Vessel: TaskGroup 85.3 |
