Vogel sat at the desk in his office, a hot cup of coffee steaming beside him. Thoughts lay resting in a surgical recovery ward, getting round-the-clock maintenance from the Coronado nursing staff. He yawned. The length of the operation and dedicated required had taken quite a number on his energy. He took his terminal and turned it toward him, typing a few commands into it. He laid back and tapped his combadge:

+TAPS+ Vogel to bridge. Captain Daren, request permission to open a channel to Thought’s homeworld.

Daren replied:
+TAPS+ What for?

+TAPS+ Thoughts contracted a serious illness known to the M64 databanks as the Vimmage. It’s treatment necessitated the removal and destruction of two cords. I need to order two more from them, in order to reform the braid.

+TAPS+ Understood Doctor, proceed.

Vogel continued on his terminal. Finally, the universal signal of a com channel appeared. A braid appeared on the Viewscreen.

+COM+ Hi, I’m Doctor Vogel of the Starship Coronado. I have a patient who will require 2 more cords to be added. How do I go about requisitioning them.

+COM+ Why are you asking me? I’m in the tourism office. You should open a channel to the National Medical Service.

+COM+ Could you transfer me?

The braid disappeared from the screen, replaced by a governmental insignia. Moments later, another appeared.

+COM+ This is Doctor Tomiash of the National Medical Service. How can I help you?

+COM+ Doctor Vogel, Chief Medical Officer of the USS Coronado. I had a confirmed diagnosis of Vimmage of a braid onboard.

+COM+ Vimmage? I think I’ve ……

The Braid trailed off for a second but resumed

+COM+ The vimmage is a terrible disease. But it was said to have been iradicated a hundred years ago. How did your officer become infected?

+COM+ Unknown. But I followed the treatment protocols. The infected and adjacent cords were surgically removed. They need to be replaced.

+COM+ Agreed. What is your ship’s position? I’ll have a supply vessel send you 2 replacements immediately.

Vogel sent him the coordinates, careful to encrypt the transmission so the phfor couldn’t intercept.

+COM+ That’s a bit out of our area. And we run a great risk of phfor or other marauders intercepting and destroying the ship. We need to establish a meeting point.

The coordinates sent were halfway between the Coronado and the Briad homeworld. Within the distance of a shuttlecraft or Coronado, the point lay.

+COM+ Thank you doctor, we’ll meet there.

+COM+ Certainly. National Medical Service Out.

The com channel closed, replaced by a Starfleet Insignia. Vogel stood up and left his office, turning into Sickbay and leaving that, bound for the turbolift. He needed to see the Captain about the suggested rendevous.
