Commander William Daren stood next to one of the large floor-to-ceiling windows in Coronado's Conference Room on Deck One. Since the refit of the ship and the relocation of the Main Bridge to Deck 9, a more internal and secure location, he had only rarely been up on Deck One. Sure he made daily rounds throughout the entire ship and that included to Deck One "flying bridge", but he rarely took time to enjoy the view. There was nothing like the view of space from Deck One. The doors on the other side of the room came open with a slight 'hiss' as Chief Medical Officer Doctor Vogel and Intelligence Officer Lieutenant Ma'Aru stepped through. Daren turned when he heard them enter. "Please have a seat, each of you.", Daren approached the large table as the two did as he asked. Daren first turned to Dr. Vogel, "First, I'd like to welcome you aboard Coronado Doctor. I just received your transfer data a few hours ago and everything looks good. I'm sure you'll fit in very nicely around here. I trust Dr. Thompson has brought you up to speed on the crew and our medical needs." Vogel nodded, "He has, and thank you sir." Daren looked at each officer, "I've asked you both here because I have a specific mission for each of you. We've been in M64 for quite some time now. We all miss home and want very much to get there, but the fact is: we are here now." He folded his hands. "We are coming into contact with strange new worlds and strange new races each and everyday. We need to maintain a foothold on our new surroundings and keep all these new races organized and in order." He paused briefly to check for non-verbal signs from the two that they were following him. Both officers seemed to generally follow what Commander Daren was saying and he continued. "Back home we have never ending reports on known Alpha and Beta Quadrant races. I wish to begin moving in that direction for M64. "Lieutenant Ma'Aru,..." Daren faced her. "...this means a structuralized intelligence database much like the one that exists at Starfleet Intelligence on Earth. No M64 race is to be overlooked. At any moment, a race we consider to be an ally could turn on us, so I want the strengths and weaknesses analyzed. Coordinate with Tactical as much as you can on this. All of this in addition to your normal duties of monitoring Intelligence data throughout the Task Group 5.4 network." She nodded, "I understand completely, and I already have much of the information necessary, it's all in the organization. I'll get started right away, sir." Daren nodded, "Dismissed, Lieutenant.", he turned to Vogel, "Now Doctor, I'm sure you can guess what I'd like from you, but I'm going to tell you anyway." He grinned. "I'd like you and your department staff to begin work on an M64 Medical Database. Just as we need Intelligence data on each of the races, we need medical data on them as well. We don't know if we'll need to soon rescue an allied ship in distress and not being able to treat an M64 patient may be what keeps all our friendships strong. In your case as well, I'd like no M64 race overlooked." He paused for a bit. "As most races we have come into contact in this galaxy are non-humanoid this will not be an easy task, but I know you are up to it. Under most circumstances getting medical data from our allies should be quite easy...the Reorsan's especially. I'll see what I can do about getting you Apori medical data. The translators tend to dislike their fairly complex tongue so we may need to rely on our observation for this. Do you have any questions?" Vogel looked up from a medical PADD where he was taking a few notes, "None at all sir. I'll get started right away as well." Daren nodded, "Dismissed." Vogel stood and exited the large room while Daren stepped back to the large window peering out into the strange new world. -------------------------------------- Commander William Daren Executive Officer USS Coronado
