Maiko D'rall
Posted on Monday, May 24, 2004 - 10:04 pm:

The initial shock had worn off on Maiko D'rall. So had the trepidation over whether or not she had made the right decision. While she regretted having to leave, she did think it was nice of the captain to at least respect her and the others' decisions.

Her hand idly traced over the flowing script on the side of the hull. Esperanza. Hope. It was something she seemed to always be short of these days, first against the Xur, and now about her future. Would she be ostracized among her own people because she had been one of "the fleeters"? Would she even be given the opportunity to pilot another starship, or would she find herself back on Reor with some minimalist rank shuffling people from ground to orbit (as even with transporters working, the shuttles were still in use) or worse, shuffling paper?

There was no plane, and now with the influx of technology discovered after Churchill's departure from M64, most of the reasons behind having a plane were now moot. Reor itself had changed in her absense, but it was still home. Of course, even if she had wanted to go to the Milky Way, what would be the point? It would all be gone in just a short while...

Former Captain John Farrell the Fourth - or as he commonly called himself, the Last - sat in one of the small beach cafes on Reor. The Parson's proximity to Reor meant she had been one of the first Starfleet ships to arrive, and as such, he had been planetside for several days with his wife.

The Parsons was somewhat unique among the military ships in M64; its crew had all been volunteers, knowing they would never again return home. Many had been left homeless by the FKR War, or lost their entire families in it. Others wanted the opportunity to enjoy a new start or had the notion that this would be a new frontier of some sort. For him, it had been all these reasons and more. Staying here was the right choice for him and most of his crew.

Ironically he could understand some of the ire of the civilian governments in M64. Though they were hardly the cream of the crop of the Corps, there were a number of highly talented people onboard the Parsons who had for the most part been ignored. Rather than plumbing the depths of Xanadu, the bulk of the crew had been relegated to "civic duties". Not that he minded working on infrastructures and helping the various yard ships from time to time, but it was grunt work, not the kind of work he was used to. Sometimes he missed the calls from the exploration vessels sent out to chart the unknown who had stumbled across something big...
