“I don’t like it, General. We’re being set up.”
---
“Cowards! They put the enemy on our doorstep when they should lie at our feet! This is dishonorable!”
---
“Thine Admirals have not their wits about them, General. We shalt be ever watchful as the enemy infiltrates our lines.”
---
General Ironside leaned back in his chair and rubbed his eyes, taking a break from fielding the objections and protests from the various battalion and garrison commanders regarding the deployment of Pfhor troops to their installations and colonies. Few saw the diplomatic side of things, much like the General’s own years of duty had trained him to do, and trying to convince his subordinates of something that he did not fully agree with was a challenging task.

The Pfhor had provided information on the troops they wanted deployed to as many garrisons and installations that the Defenders were willing to accept. If there was one positive that Ironside had seen come out of the exchange so far was the records of the various officers and troops that were being deployed, as well as technical data and information on weaponry carried. It was interesting to read through, if familiar based on what he had encountered in the field.

He reached to answer the next call but was interrupted by Captain Lightbody as he opened and peeked his head into the General’s office.

“Sir, Tuberider reports her probe made the transit through the gate but was destroyed on the other side by an unidentified vessel.”

Ironside sighed inwardly and pinched the bridge of his nose, “Very well, inform the Spectre and Wraith pilots who have volunteered to dock with the Tuberider to expect hostile action on the other side. Increase combat drills to four times daily, as well.”

“Aye, sir.” Lightbody responded before disappearing again.

Ironside’s comm beeped urgently, the next battalion commander in line to speak with him about the Pfhor placements no doubt becoming agitated at waiting so long. The General rubbed his eyes again, then activated his terminal screen, wondering for the umpteenth time whether this ‘alliance’ was going to turn out to be worth it…
