“Call for you from Reor’sa, Sir.” The call came to Captain William Daren at the desk in his Ready Room. He tapped his chest, “Reor’sa? From whom specifically?” “The call is coded as from the Reor’san Scientific Ministry, Captain.” The Ensign sounded as confused as Daren looked at the moment. “Alright Peabody, I’ll take it in here…” The small screen in front of him opened slowly and displayed the Reorsan Starfleet Insignia. The image was the replaced by an older man with frizzy white hair and glasses. The man was completely unknown to Daren and he didn’t have the slightest clue as to why this odd looking gentleman was calling him via ansible link. Perhaps the old man had the wrong “William Daren”, the thought crossed his mind that there could possibly be another in M64 with his somewhat common combination of names. “Greetings Captain.” So much for the mistaken identity, there was increasingly less likelihood of a second William Daren out there by that rank. “I am Doctor Emil Lufthausen, Chief of Propulsion Mechanics at the Reorsan Scientific Ministry.’s nice to make your acquaintance, Doctor. Was there something I could help you with?” Daren asked. “Oh no, I just wanted to confirm that you will be holding position for the next several weeks. Wouldn’t want my package to arrive there and not have you around to receive it.” The man smiled. “I’m…sorry?” Daren hesitated, but he truly had no idea what the man was talking about. “The Civilian Scientist you have been assigned to take onboard as part of the new propulsion research series we’ve started here at the Ministries most promising Institute.” “Doctor, if a civilian has been assigned to this vessel, I assure you…nobody informed me of it.” “That’s a pity Captain, she’ll be there in just a few days. I’ve spoken with both the Institute Directors and the Reor’san Defense Ministry on this matter.” “She?” Daren paused, and changed course. “Whose idea was it to have my ship, Defender Flag vessel, host these research experiments? I’m not sure if you are aware Doctor, but this is a very important ship in the fleet and I can’t afford to simply hand over my warp core to a civilian for any period of time. None, Doctor! was her idea, Captain. Well she made put forth to proposal a t any rate, and I approved it. Your ship has a most remarkable slipstream core that will serve perfectly for these engrossing tests.” The Doctor removed his small glasses and put them aside. “Now, can you confirm that you’ll be staying put for a while?” “Yes, I can.” Daren gave up. He had already made up his mind that whatever ship, with whatever civilian scientist in tow would instantly be turned around and sent back to where it came from. He simply wasn’t going to allow some scientist he didn’t know unfettered access to the most prized part of his vessel. “But, Doctor, I wouldn’t get too…” “Zunite will be so pleased…” Daren’s eyes widened. “Oh my…” Commodore William Daren Commanding Officer (IC) USS Coronado NCC-97901 Sim Executive Officer http://www.jestertrek.com/coro2400/bodies/depts/command.html#co
