All pilots were inexorable and cocky. It came from knowing, even if not consciously, that they were doing a job better left for a properly programmed computer. This one was no exception, Anna Brooks thought sardonically. On the whole, military life truly suited her, but there were a few things which she found wholly disconcerting, among them having to entrust her life to the judgment of indignant functionaries on far too often an occasion. As the shuttle landed she tried to ease her acrimony. They were entering the unknown and she couldn't allow her own judgment to falter. There would be plenty of time for words when they'd returned to the safety of the ship. |
