“Self-fulfilling…” Captain William Daren took one final glance around Alexandria’s Great Library, and then helped Lieutenant Brooks gather her things. “All set here?” She nodded, still securing several things into the small pack she had brought with her. Daren tapped his chest, “Daren to Coronado, two to transport.” * * * Frants. Daren thought of the strange companion creature he had witnessed by the side of Olmy from the Central Nexus. He had several strange exchanges with the Frant in the wardroom during Olmy’s short stay, and he had to admit the creature seemed to have a certain unique charisma that Daren couldn’t quite put his finger on. It was similar to playing with a puppy. The information within the Xanadu database was very descriptive when it came to the Frants. In just the hour or so that he and Brooks had spent reading about them, they had already learned so much, including the location of their home world and the report that the Frants were first contacted by none other than himself. Daren was never one to argue with history, and when he looked to see if the entry included any further information about the contact he came up empty. It seemed like the rational thing to do despite what Xanadu seemed to tell him. He decided quickly that Coronado would proceed to Grid 032 and find the Frants. In the small turbolift, Daren broke the still silence. “We’ll be heading to Grid Thirty-two to fulfill this bit of history, if you wouldn’t mind at your earliest convenience disseminate the data we’re recovered from the Library on the Frants to the senior staff and I’ll recall the crew for leave immediately.” “Aye Captain.” Brooks nodded as the doors to the Bridge opened and they swiftly parted company. Daren returned to the Command Dais, “Open a channel to the away team in the Fourth.” Shar contacted the light-speed radio at the entrance to Xanadu’s Fourth Chamber. “Open, sir.” “Daren to Commander Tal.” “Tal here, Captain.” “Commander as of right now I am rescinding all leave and recalling all crew to Coronado. After a bit of digging in the Great Library, I have learned to location of the Frant’s home planet and we will be proceeding there presently.” Tal stepped back a bit from the others in the Fourth Chamber. “There is something you should be aware of Captain. The Admiral has decided to initiate the Trill ritual of Zhian’tara in the hopes of gaining a better understanding of the influence of the Watchers on both host and symbiont.” “Zhian’tara? That’s where former hosts are telepathically imprinted on trusted friends of the trill isn’t it? Doesn’t he need a Trill Guardian for that?” “Yes Captain, the Admiral believes one of his hosts may have information that could be influential.” Tal paused for a moment. “And I have volunteered to fill the role of Guardian in this instance since the nearest Trill host specialist is…” “The Milky Way, of course.” Daren thought a moment. “Alright, please inform the Admiral that we will be leaving the surface in one hour to begin our slipstream journey to grid thirty-two.” “The Admiral has requested the presence of the entire Flag Staff as well as Colonel Prescot, and Doctor Reed will also be remaining here for the zhian’tara.” Daren nodded, “Excellent then, that is exactly the information I needed. I’ll pass the word to those on the ship. We’ll likely be out of contact for a while barring any kind of extreme emergency.” Tal grinned. “With hope, that won’t happen on either of our ends, Sir.” Captain William Daren Commanding Officer (IC) USS Coronado NCC-97901 Sim Executive Officer http://www.jestertrek.com/coro2400/bodies/depts/command.html#co ******************* As portrayed by: Chris Catterson Long Island, NY ccatt@optonline.net
