Prescot looked around at his men. Foxholes were dug in defensive positions and rows of tents were set up. Most of the men however were scurrying around putting up the finishing touches on their mini "city" and the central unit of the Batallion CIC. Not that he wouldd ever use it. 'Cant hurt to make them practice,' he thought to himself as they finished setting up the ship uplink. Jake had hated leading any set of men from anything other than the front lines. He had lead a squad and a platoon back home in the Camelyian military. Once he made the jump to a Company Commander, everyone seemed to be too concerned with his safety. While no one ever would admit it, Jake thought his father or even his mother might have had something to do with that. Now he commanded more than just a company. Unfortunatly it was at this stage and beyond when the SFMC began to silently discourage officers from leading from the frontlines. Jake had seen the system be thrown aside recently by the once Colonel and now General Ironside. But even the General was now mostly in the CIC, away from the men. Prescot looked over as his two companies completed their task and began to fall in. Eventually the men were in line and at attention. Prescot nodded to them as he spoke. "Slower than I wanted but good work. Now.. Take it back down and stow it back on the ship," he said. After the collective moan was allowed to be heard for a few seconds Jake silented them and continued, "After you store it back on the ship. Liberty will begin." The groans were suddenly changed to cheers of happiness as Jake dismissed his men. Prescot smirked as he watched his men begin the deconstruction of their newly constructed city. "At least they still trust me to lead them from the front," he said under his breath and jumped down to help with the deconstruction. |
