Lcdr. Peter Clayton

Lieutenant Commander Peter Clayton had found a new home with Whitestone Enterprises.

He'd, of course, worked with them through Starfleet in the design and test phases of the Wraiths, Spectre rehauls, and other small craft in the past. Now he found himself on the payroll.

For Whitestone, it was a good deal. They managed to snag one of Starfleet's leading test pilots at a time when their enterprises in M64 had really taken off, so to speak. New designs were being churned out by not only the internal design firm, but also from Defenders' requests and some of the other species in M64.

Peter had arrived at the Whitestone citadel with his bags and a lot of anticipation. After fourteen years in Starfleet, this was the first major change in his career, and he was both excited and nervous for it. He was someone who liked both the dynamic environment of new designs and new things to learn from the prototype fighters he flew, as well as the static, consistent job outlook. Almost all of his career had been spent in the seat of a new fighter.

And he wanted it to stay that way. His promotion to Lieutenant Commander a year and a half ago had been a prelude to a large desk at Utopia or Vytasis, and being trapped in M64 had made it an even bigger desk with a large window behind it. It wasn't what he wanted to do. It wasn't flying.

At some point in late 2402, Peter realized that he hadn't flown a new design since the Wraith, and by now, it was a proven bird, widely used and built. He had trained the trainers, and now there was nothing left for him to do.

There was a certain novelty about everything he'd done up until that point. He liked the idea of being the first one to know how to fly a new design inside and out, he liked the adrenaline (though a little dull after piloting twenty new designs) that comes with flying a ship that may fall apart at the seams if you nudge it the wrong way. It wasn't something a desk could provide, unless the desk had a microtorpedo launcher, White Lightning core, and could do figure-eights around a Sovereign.

Whitestone's arrival was an omen for him. In fact, they seeked him out about a month later before he'd ever worked up the courage to contact them. They were very persuasive in their offer, and Peter couldn't refuse it.

Becoming a civilian was one of the hardest things he'd ever had to do. Though, when he stepped into Whitestone's fighter bay #3, and saw his future...

He never looked back.
