Savant
Posted on Sunday, July 06, 2003 - 10:02 pm:

Savants' small potted plant had been joined by a few others, as she had found that she could easily handle keeping them healthy and alive. not only that, but they seemed to enjoy the company of their own kind. Their presence gave Savants' office something of a less austere appearance, which she appreciated. The soft lines and gradients of the room were much more to her liking.

The android sat at the desk, as it had done so for the past eight and a half hours. Without any direct stimulus, Savant found litle need to move it beyond having watered her plants once upon her arrival. Nothing moved in the office, which was just how Savant wanted it. There were no distractions that way.

"You're quite focused on this race, aren't you Captain?" Savant offered cheerily to Marine Captain Leon Tars, Squadron leader on Vanguard. He was sitting hunched over a desk, poring over something or other - Savant could have checked but didn't bother.

"It's been a long time since we've had any activity like this, a friendly competition will do fantastic things for morale. Like hell am I going to miss this." He replied, not looking up, "Is Coronado going to compete?"

Savant nodded once. "I've heard of a few teams being formed. We'll certainly give you a run for your money, Captain.

"And you?" He looked up to cast his baleful eye up at the hologram. Though the Captain and Savant were friends, he had a habit of treating everyone and everything as if they were beneath him. Which was why, most likely, he was still a Captain. If one could get by that, however, he was a pleasant man and a loyal friend.

Savant smiled broadly. "I haven't decided yet."

"Huh." He snorted and looked back at the terminal in front of him, "You shouldn't. I'd rather not see you lose."

Her smile froze into an icy, predatory expression. "Is that so?" She offered smoothly.

"Yeah. You're my friend, Savant, and I don't like seeing my friends beaten." He glanced up at her again with a smirk, "Especially when they're beaten my me."

She paused and leaned close to him, her holographic mouth just beside his ear. "Don't worry, then, Leon," she purred the threat, "I won't be competing."

But there were always distractions. At least some were more pleasant than others. the android gained a hint of a smile as Savant allocated a Spectre for herself, and began to plan. . .
