Shock and denial.
This cannot happen. It isn't happening.
Of course it isn't happening. What convenient timing, during an inspecting. This is just what she should come to expect.
Reed: Charred remains, and it's him. Could he fake that? He couldn't fake that. Not in front of the engineers. Could he?
He is really gone. Can he really be gone?
A staple. The all-knower at the top of the mountain. The source of the river from which all flows. Without him she cannot fathom this Galaxy. She cannot go rightly on.
Why? Oh, dear why?
Of everyone in engineering, him? He shouldn't have been there, it isn't his place. If only it had been someone else. Anyone else.
Resolution.
If she could just go back, just change a minor detail. Anything that would work. Anything it takes. |
