=/\= Alexandria =/\=

He stood nearby trying to make himself appear to be busy staring out across the city of Alexandria but his mind was still on the events that had just transpired. The parakeet had been transported up to the Coronado for further examination. Major Prescot and his team of Marines were still reconning the area but Lady Luck was not with them today.

Thomas felt his emotions churning in turmoil for he had participated in another act of pure stupidity and selfishness.  He had spotted the bird's movement as it had disappeared into the tree and suddenly he had a strange sensation as his eyes locked onto the tree.  His eyes had become more focused and he could see the individual feathers on the Parakeet as they moved.  At first this recognition of the species was hidden by his all consuming passion to apprehend the bird. The dark angel's voice in his mind seemed to be saying shoot as he automatically raised his rifle and fired.

Even now thirty minutes after the event, he could almost see in his mind the pulse rifle's beam striking the bird between the eyes and the parakeet falling out of the tree.

At first his feelings were of elation over capturing it but they turned quickly as he moved to inspect the parakeet. In letting himself succumb to the voice of the Dark Angel, he had failed to lower the setting of his pulse rifle to accomodate such a small and fragile creature.

Thomas sighed as he continued to look across the landscape noting the damage and scorch marks of a battle fought long ago.  Debris was every where but there were no bodies. The mystery of this place was hidden maybe locked up forever.  No movement other than those of the Marine contingent could be observed.  This place felt so lonely and empty and now he felt that inside of himself.  He turned to observe the site where he had laid the parakeet.

He wished that he could change the past and correct his mistake.  He wished that he could correct a lot of other mistakes as well.  Turning back, he stared again towards the horizon, towards the third chamber.  Thoughts of revisiting the Crystal Spire andthe control room for the catapult danced in the back of his mind.  {{Was there a way to alter the past without altering the future?}} he wondered as stood there feeling a sensation that made him shiver.

Thomas glanced around at the nearby empty ruins trying to spot the cause of his discomfiture as he wrapped his arms around himself. The sensation of being watched returned stronger than ever. A voice seemed to ring in his head "What the watchers make, the watchers can unmake" Thomas remained standing stiffly as his mind replied "Why? Tell me why?" The voice remained silent but its words continued to reverberate through his mind.
