Savant

Savant was estatic. Euphoric could perhaps have been a better word. She had lost contact with her processors some indeterminate time ago - once they were gone she had lost her system clock and all sense of time along with them. The fact that she was still operating and coherent was a marvel to her; she spent her time wondering how or why she could still be alive or even here. The world was a haze around her, but a readable one. "This must be what life is like for you, " she rambled, "No buffers, no processing stacks, no architecture at all; completely unfettered!" The hologram had taken to floating on the margin of the road, her feet dangling a few centimeters from the dirt. She watched each grain as it passed by under her, each one spilling out across the nothingness, floating like an island in a sea ov the void. It was *real* nothingness.. not a vacuum. Time and space didn't exist there. She imagined that she could never fall through; reality and unreality could mix no more than oil and vinegar. "This is remarkable. I feel so small!" The program gestured, and turned her head to her companions. Jeremy was plodding along slowly, planting one foot in front of the other with solid, enduring steps. His boot-heels droft the grains of soil apart and bared the blankness beneath in tiny spots. Kariasa walked with far less confidence, each one carefully measured and almost hesitant, as if worried the ground would fall out from under her. Tebrun lead the group, stepping with firm steps throught he center of the track. His face was a blank slate, the Captain's Face he wore when he wanted to hide his emotions. The bloom of heat across his skin was enough to show the tension. Sieven covered his mouth with a hand, stifling a guffaw - him she was worried about. His reactions weren't . . . normal. This experience was miraculous, frightening, and awe-inspiring, but it was far from funny. She continued to watch him, and hoped that he would'n' have to be evacuated. She doubted anyone here would be capable of doing that. Savant continued to float, leaving a trail of sparks and light behind her that skittered across the false ground as if it were ice. She quieted down a little... this must have been harder for them than it was for her. She spoke up every once in awhile, but let them pass in relative silence, alone with their own thoughts. This was a religious experience, it could be said. That was something that she didn't want to ruin.
