Doctor Alec Reed, Chief Medical Officer
Posted on Tuesday, May 13, 2003 - 01:24 pm:

Reed was not used to frustration in his work. Frustration with others -- that was normal. Most people were simply annoying in the extreme. Frustration with external events -- that was normal too. This Xanadu business had everyone up in arms about the meaning of, well, pretty much everything that ever happened to them and a little ship called Coronado. That didn't really matter a great deal either. But when he was confronted with medical problems that he couldn't quickly crack, Alec Reed was the last person in the world anyone would want to be around...assuming they wanted to be around him in the first place.

Glancing over the PADD, which contained his accumulated tricorder scan results, Reed shook his head for what seemed like the millionth time. Great -- a new, never-before-catalogued species. A dead one, at that. How thrilling. The various people that had decided to become emotionally invested in Xanadu felt that there was some cosmic significance to these creatures, and as such wanted to know who they were, where they came from, and what their purpose was. Good luck.

Reed glanced over his notes, which responded to those questions in only the most cryptic of ways. "Potentially sentient reptilian species, based on body-to-brain case ratio. Low capacity for ground movement, but high likelihood of jump-style mobility. Approximate living mass in the 120-kilogram range. Manipulating extremities composed of seven digits with two opposable thumbs." Wonderfully insightful. Speaks volumes about what they were doing on Xanadu.

Although, Reed did find it interesting that there were indeed more than one of these creatures -- that their skeletons in fact seemed to be appearing in many locations. Unlike the others, Reed wasn't quite ready to attach any cosmic significance to this just yet. They could have been just another race the Jjaro had encountered and welcomed into their ranks.

Sighing, Reed put the PADD on standby and turned to the other two PADDs facing him at the moment -- the one that contained his collection of articles and notes that might relate to Lora Kor's headaches, and the one that contained speculation and data on where the Jjaro might have gone. More cosmically significant mumbo-jumbo. The good doctor muttered to himself as he looked over these two PADDs. "Probably didn't even go anywhere."
